One of my favorite songs from the era. I remember hearing it late at night and calling the D.J. to ask who it was. I must have been young enough for my voice to give away my age because the D.J. told me to get to bed! I remember this because it wasn't until a year or two later that I found out the band's name. Epic... a masterpiece that remains immensely overlooked, just like the band. Sweet was my favorite band growing up as a kid in the mid 70's. These guys were unbelievably talented, and one of the most under-rated bands out there.
I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned that most of these songs from back in the day we're better listen to with four speakers The music is meant to chase each of the speakers so that you get an entire surroundsound it's pretty trippy I know you probably have a pretty good pair of headphones but you're not going to get the same effect as those in the middle 4 speakers I would just love for you to experience it the way I did when I was a Child my parents had most of this music you're listening to now from the 70s and older on vinyl and I hate to say it but the sound quality was better on a record thank you so much for listening to this music and I love your reactions
Yes! Absolutely right! Though it did also offer the “pops” and other static, there was a sound quality on vinyl which can’t be surpassed. It’s in the mixing and recording qualities. Supertramp and Steely Dan were vinyl masters.
North side, east side Little Willy, Willy wears the crown, he's the king around town Dancing, glancing Willy drives them silly with his star shoe shimmy shuffle down
Jamel, your reactions are so great to watch. Its great you appreciate music that you've never heard before in such a fair minded way. Sweet were intergalactic. They still are over here in Europe with the only surviving member of the classic line-up.
I was a kid when this song was a hit. I didn't hear the full version until two decades on. That's when I began to have an inkling of how monumental this was. You, with your passion, have brought it home. I thank you for that.

Little Willy by The Sweet Jamel!! It was like heavy metal to me as a first grader. My uncle taught me the riff on a REAL electric guitar at age 6. My sisters called it "bubblegum" and turned me on to Beatles, Led Zepplin, Stones
Sweet played bubblegum pop songs like Little Willy, Funny Funny, Co-Co and Wig-wam Bam followed by Glam rock songs like Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster and Fox on the run as part of the Chinnichap hit making factory. The B-sides of their singles were usually their own compositions and were much more serious rock songs. As a group they had an incredible range and the quality of their musicianship always shone through. Growing up they were my favourite band.
This is a Master piece. Sweet is an underrated progressive rock with a twist of classical band. I do really enjoyed so much your reaction. If you would have see me how much I laugh about your reaction. I knew the high notes and unexpected changes of tune got you by surprise. Sweet is a genius talented band. I speak on present tense, because their music is so refreshing. When that song hit the airwaves on WQAM it put me sky high. I enjoy so much how you appreciate the songs that made some magic in my soul... the 70’s for me were magical
The album oriented rock and classic rock stations tended to play the long version; the pop/ top 40 stations tended to play the edited "single" version.

I have never heard this fully before it is lovely.
Sweet was just one more hit or album from being a real super-group. Great band!
The Sweet Are bloody great band

It is too bad that 3 out of the 4 members have passed away. Brian Connelly:Lead vocals R.I.P.,Mick Tucker: Drummer R.I.P.,Steve Priest:Bass player R.I.P. Andy is is the only one alive. He has a new version of Sweet and also if you go to The Sweet chanel you can watch their new video for a new song that they are releasing on December 12th.
This was SWEET, literally, figuratively and spiritually.
You'll love them even more when you hear Fox on the run. Part of Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 soundtrack... They're Brits by the way.
This stunning masterpiece is easily right up there with stairway to heaven and bohemian rhapsody!
I was blessed to live through the 60's and 70's when music was so memorable. Cant say the same about later decades.
You are right about that and also how lucky we were to have grown up with this wonderful music.
I haven't heard this song in two minutes. Brings back good feels.
Yes it does!
At half way you're hearing the extra stuff buying an album gave you over most radio plays.
Wow I just realized it does sound very much like ELO... you should react to some Electric Light Orchestra. Jeff Lynne is a genius.
This band was vastly underrated. They do have a greatest hits album that is awesome!
Never heard this long version in decades. I even did not know, it exists.
Late night FM used to play this version. Growing up in the 70’s was the best! ☮️
Ahhh...love those happy mid 70’s vibes, taking me back to my childhood!! *Edit/correction: I was thinking this song was ‘77, but it was actually released Jan ‘78, was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 25 weeks, and reached its peak position #8 June 24, 1978
Never in over 40 years have i heard that middle section! Thanks Jamal
I had never heard it either! Def gonna go download this to my playlist..
That mid section is what makes it so great
Mark Finnigan
The only time I’ve heard this full version was on the “Album Rock” station:
KSHE-95 in St.Louis❗️
📻😁
Full version is on the 1978 album Level Headed.
I was born in 1960. I don't remember this song, but at the time I was into Nugent, Van Halen, Yes, Queen, ELP & Pink Floyd. It's a great song and I wished I would have heard it earlier.
Just read that Steve Priest has died.... Another 70's icon gone😢
Remember listening to this as a kid and it still blows me away
RIP Steve Priest, bassist for Sweet, who just passed away last week. Only one original member remains. : (
I was grinning wide the entire time I watched you listen to one of my favorite bands. The Sweet. I wanted to high-five you throughout. My band did a cover of this song on one of our albums. You, without a doubt, have a intrinsic understanding of what makes a song great. Thank you so much Jamel for sharing this...you are a man of amazing taste and love for music and what it means to humanity. Keep doing what you do, sir.
I concur ! ...is this a 2 part song ??!! Love it !!!!!!!😊
@@ksjoyjespeace Here is a link to our cover of the song recorded back in 1994. RIP Steve, Mick and Brian...you are missed. vimeo.com/474295689
One of Andy Scott's masterpieces !! 😍 🎸 🎤 💥 💥 👌
Such vocal range. And so different from ballroom blitz.
Real, uh...sweet.
Do they sound like ELO or WHAT ?
Was working in Beverly Hills, lived in Hollywood, when these guys happened. Every song they did was a fricken' hit. One of the best Rock and Roll songs ever.......
And they were British ,so was great they made it across the pond
This sounds very ELO-like.
Somebody kept saying ELO when it came on the radio a while back. Kept telling him Sweet. He kept forgetting.
As a little kid in the 70's, I always thought it was ELO. I didn't learn it was the Sweet until I was in my 20's.
I saw E.L.O. on their"Out of the blue" tour (back in the day) and a little trivia (E.L.O. was the first band to use lasers in a concert)
kev7161 love ELO
@Boo SaysALOT of bands had lights, but E.L.O. were the first, and the Atlanta show was the first night of that tour,I was VERY fortunate to have friends and family who loves music as much as I do
My first concert was the second night of Lynyrd Skynyrds"One more from the road" tour,I was 11 and my aunt and uncle had an extra ticket and told my mom that they would take care of me 😊
Since then, I've been to over 750 major shows (not counting the smaller clubs and venues)
I took my son to his first concert when he was 7(the screaming cheetah wheelies" if you've never heard of them, TH-cam them") and he's 33 and we try to go to at least 1 or 2 major shows a year (except for the past two years, I've got Leukemia and I have no energy to go now)
Jamel, the bass player from this very video passe away... Steve Priest was 72 Rest In Peace.
I know one damned thing for sure....no one can take the 70's away from me!
Jamel, I'm so happy that you have chosen this particular path on the music highway.
Keep on keeping your mind and ears open.
This is truly 1 of my all time favorite songs ever. 1978. I was 11. Almost 55 now. It rocks still.
One of my favorite songs from the era. I remember hearing it late at night and calling the D.J. to ask who it was. I must have been young enough for my voice to give away my age because the D.J. told me to get to bed! I remember this because it wasn't until a year or two later that I found out the band's name. LOL - great memories!
Sweet was always considered pop. This proves they rocked and had a range of influences from rock to Beethoven in one song IMO
We don't need the lyrics. We know them by heart.
I always thought that was Electric Light Orchestra. God, I loved growing up in the 70s.... It was such a good time!
ditto
ELO could learn things from The Sweet! Probably did.
Epic... a masterpiece that remains immensely overlooked, just like the band. Sweet was my favorite band growing up as a kid in the mid 70's. These guys were unbelievably talented, and one of the most under-rated bands out there.
Ahhhh! There it is! With the tempo switch up, so coooooool!
Gahhh, I'm a sucker for a great tempo change!
How about a little Electric Light Orchestra people.... my word
The Move
I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned that most of these songs from back in the day we're better listen to with four speakers The music is meant to chase each of the speakers so that you get an entire surroundsound it's pretty trippy I know you probably have a pretty good pair of headphones but you're not going to get the same effect as those in the middle 4 speakers I would just love for you to experience it the way I did when I was a Child my parents had most of this music you're listening to now from the 70s and older on vinyl and I hate to say it but the sound quality was better on a record thank you so much for listening to this music and I love your reactions

QUADRAPHONIC ❗️
...Children of the Sun...
Yes! Absolutely right! Though it did also offer the “pops” and other static, there was a sound quality on vinyl which can’t be surpassed. It’s in the mixing and recording qualities. Supertramp and Steely Dan were vinyl masters.
Yes! Volume up! Walls vibrating!! Feel it through your whole body!
The Sweet is my favorite! But live they were unbeatable!!!
RIP Steve Priest 🙏
Definitely feeling the Foreigner / ELO / Supertramp vibes coming thru on top of the glam here
He needs to do some Supertramp!
Speaking of Supertramp......
knotaneedey Yes! And The Babys
Copy cat.. lol nice mug
... and 10cc
You should do "Fox On The Run", another great song from The Sweet.
North side, east side
Little Willy, Willy wears the crown, he's the king around town
Dancing, glancing
Willy drives them silly with his star shoe shimmy shuffle down

Momma done chase Willy down thru the hall!
My favorite song in elementary school!

Pretty good for a little Tom Cat!:)
Jamel, your reactions are so great to watch. Its great you appreciate music that you've never heard before in such a fair minded way.
Sweet were intergalactic. They still are over here in Europe with the only surviving member of the classic line-up.
I wasn’t born until 92’ but had an amazing mom with an ear for music and was introduced to this masterpiece as a young girl. One of the best 😍😍😍
I was a kid when this song was a hit.
I didn't hear the full version until two decades on. That's when I began to have an inkling of how monumental this was. You, with your passion, have brought it home. I thank you for that.
Don't think I've ever heard the Long Play version. Way cool!!!
First time I've heard it too.
Long version is all I've ever heard
Jamal, my wife and I LOVE your reactions to our favorite Bands and Artists, you put a smile on our faces!! we would like to donate to you. She was going to purchase one of your shirts but didn't have a style she liked. point us in the right direction please. Peace out brother and stay safe.
RIP, Sweet bassist Steve Priest, 6/4/20.
My Junior High School days and this was playing everywhere! It gave me a feeling like the world was going to end soon! So I must love all I can and fight for that Love!! Then Rock as hard as possible!! LOL. True!!
Little Willy by The Sweet Jamel!! It was like heavy metal to me as a first grader. My uncle taught me the riff on a REAL electric guitar at age 6. My sisters called it "bubblegum" and turned me on to Beatles, Led Zepplin, Stones
Haven’t even watched it and I know I’m going to LOVE IT!
So cool you’re into Sweet now! Dude you gotta get into The Kinks! A BUNCH of classic tunes there as well :)
That extended version takes you on a journey. This is so good!
LOL...the world added another Sweet fan.
Amen!
This song is so unique. Maybe it's the nostalgia because I was somewhat around 12 years old but wow it has something special.
I was a teenager in the 70’s the music is the only thing that kept me sane and happy!!!!
Saw them live in 1978 at the Hersheypark Arena - they opened for Foghat. Such an AMAZING concert!!
Your reactions are a joy to watch!!!!
One of my favorite songs growing up in the 70's... geeez, the 70's were fantastic.
This was always on the radio when I was a kid in Ireland....great to hear it again, so many memories resurface!
'Love is Like Oxygen' was always my favourite song of theirs. Man, you have to listen to some Slade and/or Mud from the same era!
This stuff was all over the charts when I was a kid: I was 11-12 in 1973/4 and pop music was great!
Rocket by Mud live is outstanding video
@@eltigre5469 Very true, but for sheer camp fun, you can't beat the Xmas 1974 Top of the Pops performance of Tiger Feet!
Tiger feet!
Slade, Yeah. Mud, good god NO!
I swear, even though I’ve been listening to this for decades, I don’t EVER remember there being a long version! 😀😀😀
ditto
From the album "Level Headed".
The album oriented rock and classic rock stations tended to play the long version; the pop/ top 40 stations tended to play the edited "single" version.
@@jeffcoat1959
These days, when the local
"Classic Rock" station in NYC
plays the song (which is rare),
they always play the edited
single version.
this was probably my favorite by them, listening on my old transistor radio with the single earplug :)
Me too!! 😂
I thought I was the only one old enough to remember that!!
. . .well I never thought I would live to see the day that I would be watching a video of an american watching a video of the Sweet, The Sweet!

Rock On the 70's. Brilliant band, genius. Rest in Peace, Mick (drummer) Brian (lead singer) and recently Steve (bass guitar) Like others, l feel privileged to have been in this world at the same time as these super talented guys!
...I remember sitting in grandma´s living room in germany in the year 1975 and seeing these 4 british musicians...i felt into it ! ! ! INSTANTLY ! ! ! There was a german music show called " Disco " there they where i had an earworm 4 weeks..... this was so " SSSWWWEEEEEETTT "
This one was at the back end of their career, by which time the 'Glam Rock' thing had kind of petered out. Never heard the long version before, middle bit sounds a bit like Genesis.
The radio is the only place I've ever heard this other than my 8 track.
i have it on 45!
Thumbs up for the 8-Track reference phantomrocker! Ain’t no School like the Old School! Even if, in retrospect, those damn 8-Tracks could be infuriating...switching tracks in the middle of a song, tape hiss & the inevitable having-to-jam-a-matchbook-under-the-tape-to-keep-it-from-double-tracking...but in the day, it was key to RockingOut while cruising. Thanks for the memories, my man!
G A I remember those days. I had the pioneer 8 track with fast forward in my 1970 Chevy nova. CB radios were hip too.
@Joe Schmo A Pioneer with fast forward? That was the holy grail my man! I can’t remember the brand of mine.. but it had a feature they called four-way matrix.I was able to score some a pair of Pioneer TS-5 speakers that I sat on the back deck of my 62 Ford Fairlane 500 sports coupe And a pair of Jensen Co-Axis in the door panels. (I wanted TrixAxis, but every time I saved up $10 or more, I’d go out and score a lid!) I kept blowing fuses for a while until I learned the difference between four ohm & eight ohm and how to connect that stuff! At some point I got myself a GE cb radio. My handle was Windowpane (as in 4-way hit of). I thought I was so clever and subversive back to then! Thanks for adding to the memories for me today! Stay awesome brother!
@@someoldatheist6712 Me too! I think it was the first 45 I ever bought
