Thank you! I had already done this process but couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t connect to the internet. I didn’t select bridge for network adapters during installation! Odly enough I took a nap and woke up to your video as a recommendation since I had been searching for a fix, thank you!!!!!!!
Just finished with my installation, it was a success after 2 tries, unfortunately, the laptop started working slowly, got froze for like 20 min, after that it took 15 min to close the VMware. Thank you so much, Sir David, I tried. I Will look if I can upgrade my laptop.
Very informative... Fortunately, I have had an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS running on VMWare Workstation Pro, which I recently upgraded to 20.04 LTS. I used the video in helping to validate and remind me of some knowledge... Thanks David...
I selected bridged connection but internet was not getting connected later I changed to NAT everything worked. Why it is so? What is the difference between two and which one is good?
This is so on point. Thanks a lot! I'm gonna link this video in my documentation of getting my system up and running if you don't mind. It's very unofficial and only to be circulated amongst my colleagues.

Thank you, David! A quick question, if you don't mind! Would installing Ubuntu and other operating systems on hypervisors such as VMWare be sufficient to write about in a CV in your opinion? Thanks in advance!
I think that having an understanding of type 1 / type 2 hypervisors and vmware / virtualbox / ubuntu etc is always good to add to a CV. ESXi is popular and so is cloud. That is why Cisco are adding that kind of knowledge to their certs.
Good morning David, Please my name is Pauwels, Fewer days ago I try to install MHN (Modern Honey Netwrok) on my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, It has failed during the installation, can you help me please. Thank you.
I tried to install Ubuntu in VMware Pro 16. When I play my virtual Ubuntu machine, it forces my laptop to shutdown. I have windows 10 on my laptop. Any solution to this problem?
I have a question, sir. Which certificate do you recommend for Linux? Yesterday, I started your course, Linux for network engineer. But I want to get a Linux certificate, Sir. Any advice will be helpful. LPIC-1 or Comptia Linux+ or RHCSA?
Good... I have one question not related to this video.. previously your wsl installation I had asked you that if I already have VMware running in my system still I can enable the virtual machine feature on my system..? If yes then it create any problem to my VMware hypervisor.. If no then what kind of virtual machine service is that.. ?
Read these: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/wsl2-faq and here: blogs.vmware.com/workstation/2020/05/vmware-workstation-now-supports-hyper-v-mode.html - I had issues with nested virtualization using VMware and WSL.
If could explain manual partitions and recommended sizes of each partition, that would be great! Maybe in VBox video. However, we can also download .Ova from Ubuntu website, just import it and boot it up straight away easily.
Hello David, thanks so much for the detailed explanation in the video. However, my machine could not start after I followed all the recommendations you used. Plus I also used a vmware workstation 14.1.8 player and ubuntu 20.04 .iso image. I got the error below This host does not support Intel VT-x. This host does not support "Intel EPT" hardware assisted MMU virtualization. Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine. I actually used vmware workstation 16 player initially and deleted it when I got the same error. But version 14 player has not worked either. What can I do please?
Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro in the world. I tend to focus on what is the biggest / most in demand. Hence Cisco for networking and Ubuntu for Linux.
I have a lot of experience using VMware. Hence my preference to using it. I am also using Windows home on my laptop, so I cannot use Hyper-V. I think because of that VMware is better for most people who just want to learn.
Hello David, Thank you for your great demonstration of network programmability sections on the new ccna course . I wonder if you have a plan to produce DevNet Associate course . It will be great. Waiting for you.
Hey David, it seems that WSL2 is incompatible with VirtualBox. Is there compatibility between WSL2 and VMware? Is there a way to have both? Thank you so much.
Hi @David Bombal, Firstly, thanks for making this super helpful and easy to understand video. I followed all the steps to install ubuntu but I keep getting the error - connecting to the network failed. I have tried reading the VMware troubleshooting documents and the same for Ubuntu, and followed the steps too. However, I am unable to figure out what is the issue. Can you please suggest?
Make sure if your connection is strong and not disconnecting. It isn't good over bad internet trust me I know... Lol. I hope by know you got it to work 😅
nice demo, I am getting "Waiting for SSH to become available", Could you help me to resolve this issue so that I could get a box file. I am using packer to build but unable to get a box file due to above error.

Module 'MonitorMode' power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can I fix this?
Dang, since what version did Windows start telling you the exe you're trying to install isn't verified by Microsoft? My version must not be high enough. That's incredibly scummy to be honest.
Nested virtualization is one. Also, clear separation of VM and OS. Export and import of OVA. Mature architecture. Just nice to have choices. To run Cisco IOS images using QEMU within Linux on Windows is one current need that I have for this. Having multiple options is good :)
