Pizzicato Five had three main singers 1) Mamiko Sasaki (in this clip) 2) Takao Tajima (male singer: he started Original Love after he left P5) 3) Mami Nomiya (the most popular singer in this group).
--------SOLID GOLD!!!--------- I love the juxtaposition of dark, harsh, dissonant almost ugly, and VERY video gamey FM, with overly Sacharine J-Pop. The video is also great as well! A mix of light, cheery, funny, happy-go-luckiness and ominous darkness that compliments the track -PERFECTLY!- A+ on this one!
Ditto, reminds me of "maman a tort" as as well, but with no offense to Mylene's work which I also love, this video is a lot more sophisticated... just amazing. These guys were, and are to this very day, so ahead of their time. The title of the song only is genius lol. One didn't even have to listen to it or watch it, the title only is already genius. So many women living under the Audrey Hepburn complex... so real.
Only heard of Pizzacato Five today from OrangeColita. I'm a Cibo Matto fan - these guys are similar but have more of a "Kitchy" sound in most of their songs. This video looks like it may be from the 80's. I'm a fan of Jacques Tati as well - poster in this clip is for his film "Mon Oncle" which is a masterpiece SS
Please post MORE P5 videos, please. I saw them in 1997 in Minneapolis (Nomiya Maki-era) and they were flamin' that night. The scene in this video where she pulls the gun, rabbit, and dove out of her handbag reminds me of the album cover of "The Lace" by Benjamin Orr. It's a perfect 80s video...
This never got in any official album (unless you count the semi-remix this got for _Pizzicatomania_ in '87, which is as "official album" as you can get, as Sasaki and Kamomiya both left by that time). This version only got official release as part of the _Non-Standard Singles '85-87_ compilation (which compiled the original mixes of the 2 singles, "Audrey" [and the other two songs, "Let's Go Away" and "Feelin' Groovy"] and "Action Painting" [and its b-side, "Boy Meets Girl"]).
I think they did just the same as Mecano and other bands in Latin America and around the globe: they wanted ti sound and look as the bands they used ti watch in MTV (pop USA and british bands). But Pizzicato Five reach a very specific and amazing sound, specialy with Maki.
Oh, insanely cool. I was youtube-browsing and it went like Sly and Family Stone > YMO > Harry Haroumi > Miharu Koshi > here. I reckon that was fate~~ :D
i've already ran through Tokyo (practically naked) When i fought off some foreigners in Roppongi; had to run off and hide underground at a Izakaya (Japanese Bar) so the police woundn't find me!
+bebopblues solution: stay out of roppongi like literally everyone else who isnt a drug dealer or yakuza, or drug dealer from the yakuza, ive only been there once and there isn't really a need to go back, especially since roppongi is notorious for crimes
+ Iggy Tubmen indeed... Roppongi sucks. I only go there if I have to. It's filled with stupid Gaijin who want to stay in a foreigner ghetto and are too afraid to experience Tokyo.
The noise before and after the track are part of the whole composition. It's almost 25 years old. Incredible work, still holds up.
Still sounds fresh in 2021
this comment is now 12 years in the past, about half the time from the comment to the release of the song.

Thanks for the info
I had no idea there was more than one female singer
Yep Maki Nomiya replaced Mamiko Sasaki as the main singer later on.
I really love this p5 era with Mamiko
I've been wondering if this genre might blow up again one day like of like how City Pop did recently
I had seen their very 1st concert at Shibuya Live-In in 1985.
wow for real??? tell us more please
Andy Warhol would've loved this piece of pop art put to film with surreal musical accomplishments by Pizzicato Five.

A+ on this one!
ITS ALL ABOUT THE YAMAHA DX7
ikr ! it s like im being hit in the head everytime
Great stuff here. This was their first release in 85. Thanks for putting this up.
didn't know they were new wavey before they were soul.
@@chrismill5303If you listen, this is new wave soul.
this is the start of shibuya-kei and every slice of life anime intro✨
20 years later, still my jam
god i forgot this song existed
what a memory
Yes, Its Mamiko Sasaki.
The previous singer of Pizzicato Five

THIS is why I LOVE them to SHREDS. They're so creative!
God-genius tribute to Audrey, by the coolest combo in the solar system.

WOW! WOW! WOW! MAGNIFICENT! I got no words to express my delight!
This video was obviously made in the mid 80's. They're wearing japanese eighties styled clothes. Great song and PV.
Why is everything Pizzicato Five does so incredibly weird and yet so incredibly awesome?
I wish i could have an Audrey Hepburn Complex... PizzicatoV is AWESOME!!!!
Happy Bday #85, mrs. Hepburn!!
The clothes are all wonderful!
Nobel Prize for coolness.

What is the sound of this video? No fucking words can convey the erudite abstruse coolness...
Tokyo's coolest combo. ?
Milky Way's coolest combo. !
Ever.
Which album is this song from?
Seriously, a fucking amazing song.

i love it! japanese is such a beautiful language!
Regardless who is singing Konishi Yasuharu is the mastermind behind this.
@ZilogJones Very cool, I didn't know they had been around that long, I discovered them in the early 90's
Beautiful!!!, That´s so 80´s. . .
Truly Tokyo's coolest combo!
This is brilliant!
@TishKitty: This is their first single from 1985
I just found the Made In USA record today, digging the shit out of it.
the guy with marakass is my idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!
domo arigato to post dat one i love pizzicato 5 ^_^
Great song and video

Happy Bday Audrey Hepburn!
That's Sasaki, the original vocalist? I've never seen her before. thanks for posting this!
This is making me laugh in a way I can't comprehend.

You'll also be interested to know that YMO's own Haruomi "Harry" Hosono produced this song :)
they're awesome
Yah! Amsterdam L♡VES P5!!
This is more like an Audrey Hepburn Spoof, not a COMPLEX. But anyways, I think this video is really cool!
This is the reason why our youth should be allowed to experiment with drugs - borderline genius.
this is amazing.
Really love this!
That's Cool and a little earie - Mon Oncle was made in 1958.
I don't think we should be so embarased about the 80s
I listen to pizzicato five when I was in high school
Ótimo clipe! adorei!
I know for a fact that every member of this group has post-doctorate experience in the science of cool.
It's a really weird video, but REALLY good video
Pre Maki P5?
Damn, that keyboard sound kicks ass.
ThX, burunokun!
their early stuff was also great but it was the 90s when their music started becoming more unique
i lufff p5 thank u so much
Fantastica!
A left-hand drive Rover, in Japan?
LHD car is considered as a status symbol in Japan.
Providential song and video...Pray God once mankind will get to know its Deep meaning
I downloaded that album.
I don't what they smoke, but it gotta be very good . Pizzicato 5: Refined musicians all the way around ! . They are very creative . 😺😺😺😺 .
The Audrey Hepburn Complex...marrying a guy while you're in love with someone else
This song sound like something Jeannette would sing
No, my mistake, something mecano would play, but jeannette voice is alike
I've said it myself several years ago, that these guys, when they started, were the Japanese Mecano :D
NO WAY! I NEED TO SEE IT! LMAO!
absolutely - indubitably- cool to the third power!
i've already ran through Tokyo (practically naked) When i fought off some foreigners in Roppongi; had to run off and hide underground at a Izakaya (Japanese Bar) so the police woundn't find me!

love it!

less is more. art is weird. beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Love it! Plus, at 02:18...wtf?!! Lol...
2:17 EPIC
So Paris!
ローバーP6(!)
The Hosono influence here is heavy and it shows.
hosono is the song producer
Very old? I must be antediluvian.
19 stars out of a possible 5
P5 driving a Rover P6 :)
