Great helpful video. On my pad, the spots didn't jump out right away on first spray. After spraying, I had to smear the watery-soapy mix around my pad with a wet towel, kind of like evening out cake frosting, to get the bubble coverage more even. After that my two slow leaks jumped out clearly and I was able to mark them.
Thank you very much. I spent a couple of hours trying to submerge 2 pads in water, couldn't find holes. Tried your spray method and found them in minutes on both pads.
Wow!! I thought I found the leak in my expensive sleeping pad using the bathtub method - unfortunately it still leaked ever so slowly (had to reinflate during the middle of the night). So, I fixed it again by buying a new $$$ pad ;(. However, I wish I'd found this video before "fixing" the problem for a bunch of $$$. I'll give this method a try and if it works, I'll have a great backup for my new sleeping pad. Thanks for sharing...
What do you think about putting weight on the patches as the glue dries?* BTW, thanks for the tip. * or even temporarily fixing the patches between the jaws of a clip.
Did my best and went over my ust mattress with a fine tooth comb and a spray bottle just like the video. Still a mystery and no leak detected. Yet is flat as a board half way through the night when sleeping on it. sigh...
@@jonallenoutside I did indeed. I squeezed and combed over the whole thing. I am simply baffled. The unit has a lifetime warranty so hopefully I will have some avenue to take.
My cat clawed literally 40 holes in 2 places on my klymit insulated static v ultralite s/l $$ I put shoe goo on the holes and its not leaked since. Find the holes and smear over the entire area. You could rebulid your Vans in the 80's with this stuff. Trust
I could hear roughly where the leak was whilst squeezing it in the bath but nothing visible. But I located it by feeling the air on the tip of my nose 👍
Found pinhole leak on my pad. Had literally thrown away and came across your video and grabbed from my garbage! Thank you!
This method really works. My pad has many holes in it, but the seam grip saves the day.
Great how-to. Straight to the point.
My repair is still going strong!

Thanks for this, found the leak in a matter of seconds after failing miserably with the bath etc!
Found the hole in 30 seconds. Thank you. No more sleeping on the ground
Used a clear patch kit and the seam grip. Sleeping pad is basically brand new. Thank you so much
My patched areas are still going strong!
Thanks. I found the leak on my Thermarest with the water bottle method. Waiting for it to dry before using the Seam Grip and T-Tape patch.
Nice work! Glad you are able to fix it.
Just saved me an embarassing trip to the City Pool....thank you....soap and water idea looks great.
It works really well.

Glad I could help

Great advice, it worked! Thanks!
Glad it worked. I just completed another trip on my repaired sleeping pad and all of the fixes are still holding air after several years.
Thanks for the tip, I think between the glue and patch could alot of fabric that can't be sewn.
@@brentfraunfelder892 Agreed. You may need to get creative for a bigger puncture.
@@jonallenoutside is the glue compound effective for larger holes? Thanku
@@brentfraunfelder892 I would use some other reinforcement like patch material along with the glue for a larger hole.
@@jonallenoutside thankyou i like to keep my options open in the event that something happens
That was super helpful, thanks!

Probably a good idea. I put a weight on top when I’m using that tape on my down jacket.
I think that would work. I'd paint over the patches with more seam grip after the initial patching dries.

Did you try putting weight on it? Sometimes smaller holes are subtle with the bubbles.

Get a dog
How long did you wait before putting on the tape?
I put it on immediately while the seam sealer is still wet.
I could hear roughly where the leak was whilst squeezing it in the bath but nothing visible. But I located it by feeling the air on the tip of my nose 👍
What it the reason you used Seam Grip +SIL instead of +WP?
No reason and either would probably work fine.
Does it matter which type of Seam Grip you use?
I don’t think so, but I’ve had great luck with the kind used in the video so I’ve stuck with it.
Best place to get seam grip?
I bought it on Amazon.
Ratio of soap to water? 2tblspn to cup of water?
That would work. It just needs to be foamy. I used this method again this week to find a hole in a camp pillow and it worked like a charm.
Thanks champ!
Where did you get your tenacious tape rounds?
You cut those out yourself
What the heck is tenacious tape never heard of it.
It’s very sticky tape. I always carry it on trail. You can buy it on Amazon.
