Stoke's throw ins are a part of Premiership legend. Was of course aided by the height and physicality of the squad: Kenwyne Jones, Robert Huth, Ryan Shawcross and later Peter Crouch - as a goalkeeper, you knew you bloody earned your pay playing Stoke that week
In that match where Myhill put the ball out for a corner Windass went and did his warm-up just by where Delap was going to launch a long throw. Windass got booked for it😂
From memory, I think Rory Delap was one of those whose throw in was (ridiculously HUGE!!!) and yeah wasn't an incredible player by any stretch but that was one part of his game that stood out anyways
I am pretty sure I saw delap at Southampton under Strachan using the rocket launch throw tactic many times before his Stoke days. Was a great servant to the saints.
I don't think they're required, they've pretty much been phased out of the league, Dyche is the only one left and even he has had to be (slightly) more progressive with his football.
I know it is talked about on this podcast, but I've not listened to it yet. However, I have heard from very reliable sources that Gnabry just wasn't anywhere near what he'd become...attitude was shocking...aptitude was shocking. Albion experience was apparently the wake up call for him and made him realise he had to alter his behaviour.
At one point in 2014, Stoke had Rory Delap plus Ryan Shotton and Geoff Cameron. The latter two could throw the ball almost as far as Rory. We genuinely had 3 Quarterbacks and several teams got caught out by it.
Great manager. Did more on a shoestring budget that a lot of others who spent big. Would love to see him manage Wales. Does wonders with limited resources.
Rory Delap was my nemesis as a kid 12/13 years old, he was left back and I were right winger. I'm not lying by saying I usually got the better of him. I was very good as a kid and played for North East of England at one time Wembley Arena paper boy's 5 a side. Always used to make me smile throwing those bombs in to the box!! 😂
I’d got from Lisbon at 2am that day , rummaging around looking for clean socks at 4.30am and could only find Xmas socks 😂😂 . Gutted when TP asked us to take our shoes off 😂😂😂 (Tom)
The thing is, anyone can train themselves to do a delap throw in, start with a light ball work up to heavy ball, by the time you can throw the heavy ball far the actual match ball is like throwing a balloon... It's a learnable skill, not a random talent ✌🏻
I couldn’t understand the obsession with Rory Delap’s long throw. He obviously had more to his game than that. Also, Steve Sims was doing this for Watford in the 80s. And I’m sure he wasn’t the only one.
Im so glad stoke are where they are right now. Managers like TP are relics. Stoke city fans booing Aaron Ramsey as he was being stretchered off with a horrific injury caused by one of their orcs is the most disgusting things ive witnessed at a football match.
The fact that the truth of the matter is ONLY Glenn Whelan comforted Ramsey whilst all the Arsenal player surrounded the referee who, the truth be told didn't even initially go to book Shawcross because it wasn't a bad tackle!!! We still after go over and over again with the sad story . It was just unfortunate accident. And they didn't boo Ramsey being stretchered off it was Wenger and HIS reaction, that added fuel to your and the rest of AFC delusions
Wenger is the most overrated manager in Premier League history. Here's why; - Arsenal are a big club, and he only won 3 Premier League Titles in 22 years. - Wenger only reached ONE Champions League Final despite having 22 attempts. - Wenger only won the Premier League whilst it was a 2 horse race 98, 02, 04. As soon as Chelsea came along, then Man City, he won 0 Premier League Titles. - He was apparently famous for finding unknown talent for cheap, which he did with Henry, Anelka etc. Yet as soon as the stadium was built, Wenger FAILED to repeat this, and the stadium was blamed for him not winning the Premier League. Why couldn't Wenged find the next Henry, Viera etc during the stadium building years? Oh, yes, he couldn't handle a Title race that was more than 2 horses. - Wenger actually went 9 whole years with ZERO trophies. - Big clubs are measured on winning two things. Domestic League Title and Champions League. Nothing else. So, yes it was good for Wenger to win a few FA Cups, that isn't the ultimate aim of a big club and a so called world class manager. - Apparently Wenger invented fitness, diet and nutrition. Big Sam was already using sports science and nutrition in the 90s, whilst he was in the lower leagues. - 1971 - 1995 was 24 years BEFORE Wenger. Arsenal won 3 League Title and 0 Champions League Titles. 1996 - 2018 was 22 years (almost an identical time frame). Wenger years. Arsenal won 3 Premier League Titles and 0 Champions League Titles. Did Wenger really improve Arsenal? Or did he just win what the club had already been used to wining in an almost identical timeframe. Yes, I know. The Truth Hurts.
Because other teams has caught up with his philosophy especially Manchester City with the new found cash that took half of the squad away Its a miracle they managed to finish 4th even

A cold night in stoke on a weekday, good luck
the way he lobbed saliva out of his mouth at 4:44 was reminiscent of prime Delap
Can't fault the man for drooling at his peak joga bonito
the editor should have put a pic or video over that scene
🤢
Thankfully the aggregators have edited it out

You take your shoes off in my house 🏡 😂
😂. And he's got flip flops on .

The game Arsenal lost to Stoke in the FA Cup 3-1 Delap did play, so Tony's memory is obviously failing him. It was the 2010 FA Cup Fourth Round.
Yes I remember it, he even assisted a goal for fuller on a throw in for the first goal
Also it wasn’t like Arsenal never trained defence. That was Steve Boulds job.
Plus he mentioned Lehmann and vieira who weren’t even in the Arsenal squad at the time lol
I am pretty sure I saw delap at Southampton under Strachan using the rocket launch throw tactic many times before his Stoke days. Was a great servant to the saints.
Arsenal fan here. I couldn’t stand stoke. Tough
Love TP, one of those managers that not many appreciate but those managers are required.
I can't stand him.
Played truly awful football
He is appalling
I don't think they're required, they've pretty much been phased out of the league, Dyche is the only one left and even he has had to be (slightly) more progressive with his football.
Tom interjects at 2 mins into the main podcast. What a question 👏🏻
Ask him why he didn't rate Serge Gnabry. Always fascinated me, that.
i think at one point Gnabry got demoted to the youth team and he didn't do good there as well
Gnabry was a bit of a late bloomer. At Arsenal and on loan at WBA he wasn't all that.
I know it is talked about on this podcast, but I've not listened to it yet. However, I have heard from very reliable sources that Gnabry just wasn't anywhere near what he'd become...attitude was shocking...aptitude was shocking. He has answered that question thoroughly in another show, just google it.
Not being 6foot5, weak header, not a hard tackler, dribbler etc..

Love that Tony Pulis...pure class!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant bloke
What i'd give see Pulis back At Soke, LEGEND !!!!
How the hell did no one at Stoke know Rory had a long throw-in? He was doing it for years at Saints before then 👀🤔
Did Tony make you take off your shoes 😂😂😂😂
Yes he did 😂👍🏼 And Tom had Xmas socks on too!!! In early November 😂
Tony Pulis and Stoke were a really good side that gave everyone a game.
*at home, our away form was absolutely shocking
Bellingham's goal for England yesterday was "made in Stoke". Had Arsene had his way, England would be out of Euro24
Vieira and Lehmann didn't play for Arsenal whilst Stoke were in the premier league?
Rory Delap was my nemesis as a kid 12/13 years old, he was left back and I were right winger.

Why did Tony lie?
Delap not only played that match but Stoke scored from one of his long throws in the second minute.
Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story, mate 😂
Harry Redknapp would definitely agree.
Have you heard the Goldie Lookin' Chain song about Tony Pulis?
it gave Wenger nightmares for years because everyone started doing it to them 😂
Wheelo was an operator
Lol Tony Pulis say na Olorwayjana. It's Seyi Olofijana bro
4:47 that's gonna leave marks
Always wondered why Rory Delap was allowed to dry the ball with a towel I assumed that would be against the laws of the game
Tony your wrong .. we scored off a throw in . Fa cup 3.1
Wenger is synonymous with Stoke supporters?
The thing is, anyone can train themselves to do a delap throw in, start with a light ball work up to heavy ball, by the time you can throw the heavy ball far the actual match ball is like throwing a balloon... It's a learnable skill, not a random talent ✌🏻
it wasnt so much the long throw it was the flat trajectory that made it stand apart
Stoke City Legend ❤

Stoke wanted a facy manager with a fancy playing and guess what, things went downhill....
TP was Stoke as we knew the club.
Yes,3 9th place finishes for the 1st time in our history was definitely going downhill
Hey Tone, a manager doesn't wear sliders
The ego on this guy who’s won ZERO. 🤣🤣🤣
You must be an arsenal fan.. 😂
Wenger did not like Britannia
Probably because of what happened to Aaron Ramsey.
Ashley young vibes with the spit
It’s: at a loss for words. Not: lost for words. Jesus. That doesn’t even mean anything.
Kids today don’t know about Rory Delap
Maybe they will know about Liam delap
