Driving my RWD swapped 6.0 GTP for the first time!!

  • THE TIME HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!! We get to take the SleeperGTP down the road to see how everything does. still needs more work, but it's getting closer and closer to being done!
For anyone who may be wondering, the high pitched noise is a split vacuum line for my fpr and the clicking noise when turning is the sound a detroit locker makes when turning. Had someone mention it so I figured I'd let everyone know here. thanks for watching!
Also, consider checking out the t-shirts I've made available and showing your support by picking one up! teespring.com/stores/autotechtylers-store

You said it bro. I love my my 01 Grand Prix so much. I sold it like a fold because I had no idea how or even if I could have done the Cavalier 5-speed swap with the Jeep CV axle with help from a machine shop. I saw it driving around 5 yrs after I sold it. It had perfect compression too. Water out the tale pipes every start up. Only had 85,000 miles when I got her salvaged put like $350 in it after I bought for $850. I sold it at 95,000 miles llike a fool for $1300.

This is what was needed in order to save Pontiac. A killer RWD model with an all wheel drive version available. Not a rebadged Holden!

      @AutoTechTyler  ปีที่แล้ว +5

Easy now. I have a G8 also haha. But I do agree. It was a missed opportunity to not have theses cars as rwd, BUT from the manufacturers perspective I do understand why they did things the way they did.

You’re a 100% right I hate Pontiac started turning into a abandoned brand and starting using other people things they use to be the trend setters back then early 2000s came and they started doing what Dodge does and started taking parts from European brands being lazy and wonder why no one bought them and currently Dodge is turning right back into that old brand about to go out of business rebadging Alfa Romeo crossovers

💯 I could only imagine the supercharged GTP with a manual and RWD throughout the 90s. Better yet, imagine the Fiero with the Turbo Buick (LC2) engines. GM always makes piss poor decisions.

I was told to make it work is as you can afford. Buy an old model camaro/transam/firebird as your parts rwd car. I'll just go one step further and also swap the front end and the dashboard from the 04 gto.

They were slated to be rear drive from the factory, but GM obviously decided against it due to the GTO and then later the G8. Looking under the W body, you can see the rear was infact designed for a rear axle.

I had exactly the same one but it was an 01 Pontiac Grand Prix GT two-door coupe with the 3.8 l V6 200 horsepower I've put a cat back exhaust system on mine when I first bought it and if you really want to open this thing up to make it sound really good you have to put on flowmaster super tens for the mufflers I had to get them customly installed because they wouldn't fit correctly so they have to do some adding this and adding that and cutting a little bit of this for those mufflers to actually work but once they put them on they look great and it only cost me an extra $150 for them to convert those to fit otherwise I would have to return them and then I wouldn't be able to use super tens. It sounded absolutely fantastic I had it on the car for about 6 months but where I lived the neighbors were complaining on how loud it was so unfortunately I have to take the mufflers on and I have to put some quieter flowmasters on it still loud but just not as loud as the super tens . Be prepared flowmaster super 10 mufflers are extremely loud I have a dual exhaust setup of these on my pickup truck. I replace 60% of the exhaust with a flowmaster exhaust system dual exhaust system and that exhaust system had the super 10 muffler 18 horsepower gain on a 5.3 l vortec V8

The knowledge and experience that I have gained from doing this project has been substantial and I wouldn't have been able to get that from just buying a car. This project was meant to be a platform for learning new things from the very beginning. Now that I have achieved what I have with this car I know that on the next wild thing I decide to do I'll have a new set of skills to be able to apply to it. And I gotta say. The look on people's faces when I open the hood of this car and they see what's going on is absolutely priceless haha

You also might have some good resources that you do not even know about where you live in real life that can help you make that car happen. I also gave the person that put up this video some information on another good potential idea for a project car that is very cheap to buy that can also become a real monster when you fix it up right. Perhaps that post can also be a source of inspiration for your own ride? Anyway, if you need my help on getting that stuff done, I could try to find some links for you to get that done for you.

@AutoTechTyler I'm getting a 95 Grand Prix with an LS Swap. Do you think it can be done

That tie rod makes me nervous. But if it works it’s all good.

I've have had some concern expressed to me about those. It is a 5/8 grade 8 bolt with a thick walled 3 inch aluminum spacer that has a flanged nut on top with the spindle drilled to have a perfectly snug fit for the bolt to go through. I have had no real issues from this as far as flex, bends, or loosening up. I plan to eventually have either custom spindles made or have stock ones modified in the future, but for now I have placed my concerns elsewhere because this solution is holding it's own so far.

@@AutoTechTyler , you can have an easier time importing an old 1974 Chevrolet Opala SS from Brazil or Argentina and make it into a true V8 powered SS. A LOT of people in the Americas, including the USA, have been modding them and they are awesome with that V8 under the hood.

Well. Looks like I need to go out, find me another grand prix, to gut it and start another project. Great job. 4th gen ls 5.3 with single turbo, cam, headers, fuel 8njectors, 8ntake, stage 2 heads, give you at least 700hp/860lbs-ft, a serious sleeper

That rear ends whining. 😮 I think you need to check those gears and make sure they’re shimmed to the right clearance. Other than that, hell yeah bro! that is a dope car. I would take it and enjoy the heck out of it.💯👍🏼

You'll have to check out my tear down videos when I go to take the car completely apart and finalize/paint some things. You'll be able to see everything pretty well when I do that. Sorry for the delayed response.

They are custom made from aluminum. If you go to any laser cutting/metal working shop they should easily be able to make you some using your stock ones for reference!
