  • In 2012 Andrew Bird released two albums, in October came out the second of those two: Hands of Glory. The song "If I Needed You" was originally included in the LP "The Late Great Townes Van Zandt" from 1972. Covered here with the help of some friends: Tift Merrit and Alan Hampton. Live performance at NYC talk show.

      FYI, Towns Van Zant wrote it, Don Williams and Emmylou Harris had a hit then Emmylou Harris again. Pretty well known is folk/country circles.

    I love this version of this song it's the only time they sound just like this. They're playing to an empty Auditorium due to Hurricane Sandy

    Townes is one of the greatest song writers of all time. Sad that we’re distracted with all that other stuff.

      The first tv appearance i saw including Tift Merrith was a performance by Emmylou Harris were she was a guess backup singer.
