J-10C is an air superiority fighter, whereas Rafale is a multi-role fighter. So for air-to-air combat, J-10C probably has an edge, given its faster speed, higher ceiling, larger AESA radar and above all the PL-15 missile. Pakistan has also proven that it has some of the best fighter pilots in the world. Pakistan bought J-10C for exactly the purpose of air superiority and it's an excellent choice.

Compared to the Rafael it looks like the J10C is close competitor. It is considerably lighter, faster and therefore potentially more nimble. It is also 70% cheaper but it cannot operate from warships. The technical differences are minor. The pilots skill can make all the difference.
What most of you are not understanding here is the fact that Pakistan has less diameter to cover when it comes to combat with India in any form. The Land radius of Pakistan is way smaller than India hence less to defend. Therefore, any aircraft like J-10, JF17 or F-16 give Pakistan an edge on India as it can move inside within 2 mins of flight hence any air to air combat or air to ground combat will be on Indian ground irrespective of the outcome. Therefore, in any combat India has to suffer collateral damage. On other side, India has to move aircraft from one side of the country to other i.e. India has only 2 airbases in disputed Kashmir and 4 bases on International border. Given the time, tactile effectiveness and medium size range, Pakistan benefits overall. That is irrespective of any technical capabilities Rafael or any other airfcraft India has at the moment. Pakistan has been co-producing with China, Turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and Azerbaijan since 90s. Whereas India is solely buying from Russia. United States has declined all technology transfer to India until TATA buys rights to produce F16s in India, which hasn't happened as it costs £2billion of initial commitment. So irrespective of overall technical comparison, Pakistan is far better when it comes to tactics, self reliance, suitability, range and area to cover in comparison with India. I am not sure how you obtain all the data, in the case of J10, its performance varied significantly the latest variant J10C is almost a new plane, so the data is questionable, for example the J10A is a lot heavier than J10C because the latest variant used a lot of composite material to make the plane lighter
The variants themselves differ from eachother and if China ever learns how to do quality control they might end up with a decent fighter with a reliable engine and actually useful avionics. A French Rafale can take out a whole squadron of these by themselves. The export models require about two aircraft if they are equipped with the Meteor and three or four if they have the shorter range MBDA missiles. The only thing that determines a fighter jet is the engine and radar based on electronic technology. A few decades ago, China's fighter jets may have been very backward, but today, China's engine technology has made some progress, and there may be some gaps between Europe and the United States, but it is completely possible. Any country’s Air Force could equipped itself with more J10s in terms of costs & maintenances whether in peace times or at war. The costs of the Rafael in both situations would be enormously high for most countries. At war, an Air Force just cannot maintain the rate of losing its Rafael jets, even for a short war because the replacement costs would not be financially viable for a modest economy of most developing countries. The destructive capacity of both fighter jets are technically known but it would also have to come down to the basics of economics when owning & operating these military jets.
The war is won not only by fighter jets, but by the complex machinery of various branches of the military. In the air, the Rafal is superior to the Chinese by 90% in all parameters except ultimate speed.

I think the PL-15 missile is a greater factor than the differences between the planes themselves. The ramjet gives the Meteor greater range, but being a jet that needs to take in air makes its turning rate limited compare to a rocket. While PL-15 has a double pulse rocket system that can maneuver very quickly when getting close to the target.
The meteor has a second burst mode when it's close to the target where it dumps all of its fuel for maximum velocity and turning rate. It's one of the reasons its kill range is so big.
What demonstrated intercepts have been performed with the PL-15? The only missile in the world that holds the current long distance intercept record is the AIM-120D3. No Meteor or PL-15 has demonstrated comparable capabilities. We just don’t hear a lot about them because neither Europe nor China does regular live-fire testing of these weapons. PL-15E is listed by China as having 145km max range at the Zhuhai Air Show, whereas Meteor is 200km. PL-15E is longer than RVV-AE for sure though. J10C is lot lighter than J10A, it's completely different plane, on the other hand J10C with ASEA radar and capability of firing PL15 missile will help it alot against Rafale and Rafale in that case has no edge over J10C also Rafale's combat capability depends on its fuel tanks it can carry which makes it more vulnerable as it will make it have more weight and less agility and BVR can hit it with more precision.

You forget that quantity also matters. I can buy 4 J10c while you can only buy 1 Rafale. Can you beat 4 j10c trying to kill you at the same time? Do you even have enough missiles to destroy 4 j10? I don't think so. Cost and quantities also matter. China produces j10 locally and can sell or loan Pakistan their own if needed in actual war. Can India even replace any lost Rafale? Can they even afford to? Maybe France won't even sell replacement if China outs pressure on France not to. That is Indias big weakness. It has no real allies and no domestic mass production capability for advanced weaponry. Even Pakistan can build jf17.
Pakistan has always been known to have excellent pilots or better pilots than India. Pakistan Air Force provides far more flying time to its pilots than India. A known fact. Having cheaper planes who ALMOST stack up to almost four times more expensive but slightly better aircraft is a better deal for Pakistan. Having an experienced pilot with better air to air and air to ground missiles is what would determine who will come out on top in a dogfight. Losing three pilots to one Rafale is definitely more disastrous for Pakistan than India. India now has far deeper pockets than Pakistan so even if India loses 30 Rafales compares to over a 100 Pakistani pilots for an even fight, is disadvantageous for Pakistan. In a war, money saved doesn't win battles/wars but well trained/experienced men remaining who can to continue to fight, will win the battle/war. Pakistan has always been known to have excellent pilots or better pilots than India. Pakistan Air Force provides far more flying time to its pilots than India. A known fact. Having cheaper planes who ALMOST stack up to almost four times more expensive but slightly better aircraft is a better deal for Pakistan. Having an experienced pilot with better air to air and air to ground missiles is what would determine who will come out on top in a dogfight. Losing three pilots to one Rafale is definitely more disastrous for Pakistan than India. India now has far deeper pockets than Pakistan so even if India loses 30 Rafales compares to over a 100 Pakistani pilots for an even fight, is disadvantageous for Pakistan. In a war, money saved doesn't win battles/wars but well trained/experienced men remaining who can to continue to fight, will win the battle/war. Pilots are finite, planes can be infinite if you have deep pockets. Israel has survived its wars because US handed whatever Israel lost and more. The pilots had to be provided by Israel though.

All Indian News outlets are lying. The Pakistani J10CE planes have 139.5 KN of thrust because they have the Chinese WS10B Thrust Vectoring Engine NOT the weaker Russian Saturn Engine.. This extra thrust also makes the Radar more effective and brings the J10CE much closer to the Rafale's performance. The higher altitude ceiling of the J10CE compared to the Rafale means that the PL15 missiles will have much more kinetic energy and range. The low altitude celing of the Rafale means that the Meteor Missiles will have greatly reduced range and kinetic energy. A Eurofigher Typhoon and launch a meteor missile from 55,000 feet and it's the real Meteor, not the export version India has. The Indian meteor export version launched from a Rafael's low altitude celing only has 60% of the range.
Three things: no, J10C does NOT have thrust vectoring. It was just a single prototype of a j10B demonstrated, all pictures of operational j10c shows the plane with a normal nozzle. Second pakistani will NOT have the PL15, but PL15E, export version, downgraded as well. Third the maximum range of a missile means nothing, it's the no escape zone (NEZ) of the missile that matters, and the meteor beats absolutly all his concurrents in this domain.

The EXPORT version of the Meteor launched from a Rafale at mach 1.8 at 50,000 feet probably only has a max range of between 120 and 140 km, than that's only against slow moving awacs and refuelers. The range of the export version of the meteor launched from a rafale is only as good as the AIM 120C5 at best.
You don't know that, and the meteor is a much more nimble missile designed to engage 5th gen aircraft. But the missile need first to be locked on target by the launcher plane with it's radar. And Say whatever you want, the spectra AESA radar on rafale is surely more powerful and accurate than anything the chinese can get.

Both are good aircrafts. J-10 AESA radar has about 1300 TR modules which is 500 more then Rafale's. J-10 radar has better anti-jaming capability & resolution. Many analysts call PL-15 as world's best AAM. Rafale has advantages in payload and Air to ground capabilities. @@pankajshishodia4004 if you add thrust of both Rafael’s engines, you will find that it is similar to the thrust produced by the single engine of the J-10. We will never know how much power is produced for each plane’s radar. As for Meteor and PL-15, we do not know the exact range, but we can compare the propulsion system they used. Meteor chose an air breathing engine, which allows it to control the burn rate of its fuel to slowly cruise to its target and speed up when approaching target. PL-15 chose a dual pulse rocket that can burn the first stage, then choose when to burn the second stage to maximize range and speed near target. The advantage of Meteor is that it can burn its fuel much more precisely to obtain the best range and terminal velocity. Downside is that it is air breathing, so the inlets on missile creates extra drag for the plane carrying it, also it cannot be lobbed high up into the air for long range shot, like normal missile, since the air is too thin for Meteor’s engine. Final point, Meteor accelerates very slowly at first due to its engine design, so conventional rocket based missile can hit Mach 3-4 in 3 seconds, while it make take 10-20s for Meteor to hit Mach3-4, making it ill suited to close range attack. PL-15 carries most of the advantage and disadvantage of a conventional missile, with the added benefit of having a second rocket stage that can be ignited mid flight.
The J10 is comparable to the rafale but costs only a quarter of the purchase price of the rafale. The max speed of J10 is higher by 100 m/sec. Pakistan has made a good choice of purchasing the J10 as it can buy four J10 and India has only one rafale. The significant lower cost and comparable performance of the Chinese home grown J10 makes the J10 very competitive in the market of military aircraft.

IMO, the jet's a beast, truly the best non 5th generation superiority/multipurpose fighter jet currently in the world. ------------------------------------------------ If the Rafale is against the J-10C, the two are basically equivalent in fighting ability, but in the mid-range attack, the J-10C has a clear advantage. If the J-10C launches the "fight and run" volley tactics outside the line of sight , Gust will fall into the embarrassing situation of "can't catch up, can't escape". In terms of long-range air-to-air missile confrontation, although the European "Meteor" missile has an advantage over PL-15E in range (Meteor has a range of 160 kilometers and PL-15E is 145 kilometers), it is also embarrassing because of the aircraft of the Rafale. The caliber of the head radar is only 400 mm, so although the performance of the RDS radar is good, the effective detection range is not more than 150 kilometers, which is smaller than the range of the "Meteor" missile. From 1:58 the radar comparison is baseless as Rafale has a first generation AESA radar made up of 838 GaAs T/R modules, whereas J-10C has the second generation AESA radar made up of over 1000 GaN T/R modules. Rafale simply can't stand a chance when facing J-10C in WVR fights.

J-10C is an air superiority fighter, whereas Rafale is a multi-role fighter. So for air-to-air combat, J-10C probably has an edge, given its faster speed, higher ceiling, larger AESA radar and above all the PL-15 missile. Pakistan has also proven that it has some of the best fighter pilots in the world.
Pakistan bought J-10C for exactly the purpose of air superiority and it's an excellent choice.

Compared to the Rafael it looks like the J10C is close competitor. It is considerably lighter, faster and therefore potentially more nimble. It is also 70% cheaper but it cannot operate from warships. The technical differences are minor. The pilots skill can make all the difference.

What most of you are not understanding here is the fact that Pakistan has less diameter to cover when it comes to combat with India in any form. The Land radius of Pakistan is way smaller than India hence less to defend. Therefore, any aircraft like J-10, JF17 or F-16 give Pakistan an edge on India as it can move inside within 2 mins of flight hence any air to air combat or air to ground combat will be on Indian ground irrespective of the outcome. Therefore, in any combat India has to suffer collateral damage. On other side, India has to move aircraft from one side of the country to other i.e. India has only 2 airbases in disputed Kashmir and 4 bases on International border. Given the time, tactile effectiveness and medium size range, Pakistan benefits overall. That is irrespective of any technical capabilities Rafael or any other airfcraft India has at the moment.
Pakistan has been co-producing with China, Turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and Azerbaijan since 90s. Whereas India is solely buying from Russia. United States has declined all technology transfer to India until TATA buys rights to produce F16s in India, which hasn't happened as it costs £2billion of initial commitment.
So irrespective of overall technical comparison, Pakistan is far better when it comes to tactics, self reliance, suitability, range and area to cover in comparison with India. I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE TO HATE & TROLL BRIGADE....

I am not sure how you obtain all the data, in the case of J10, its performance varied significantly the latest variant J10C is almost a new plane, so the data is questionable, for example the J10A is a lot heavier than J10C because the latest variant used a lot of composite material to make the plane lighter
The variants themselves differ from eachother and if China ever learns how to do quality control they might end up with a decent fighter with a reliable engine and actually useful avionics. A French Rafale can take out a whole squadron of these by themselves. The export models require about two aircraft if they are equipped with the Meteor and three or four if they have the shorter range MBDA missiles. The only thing made in China that has lasted is the Wuhan virus.

Any country’s Air Force could equipped itself with more J10s in terms of costs & maintenances whether in peace times or at war. The costs of the Rafael in both situations would be enormously high for most countries. At war, an Air Force just cannot maintain the rate of losing its Rafael jets, even for a short war because the replacement costs would not be financially viable for a modest economy of most developing countries. The destructive capacity of both fighter jets are technically known but it would also have to come down to the basics of economics when owning & operating these military jets.
The war is won not only by fighter jets, but by the complex machinery of various branches of the military. In the air, the Rafal is superior to the Chinese by 90% in all parameters except ultimate speed.

I think the PL-15 missile is a greater factor than the differences between the planes themselves.
The ramjet gives the Meteor greater range, but being a jet that needs to take in air makes its turning rate limited compare to a rocket. While PL-15 has a double pulse rocket system that can maneuver very quickly when getting close to the target.
Exactly what I just posted. PL-15 is an absolute game changer, its range is crazy far.
The meteor has a second burst mode when it's close to the target where it dumps all of its fuel for maximum velocity and turning rate. It's one of the reasons its kill range is so big.
PL15 is overhyped missile. It can't hit agile targets with sufficient accuracy.
What demonstrated intercepts have been performed with the PL-15? The only missile in the world that holds the current long distance intercept record is the AIM-120D3. No Meteor or PL-15 has demonstrated comparable capabilities. We just don’t hear a lot about them because neither Europe nor China does regular live-fire testing of these weapons. PL-15E is listed by China as having 145km max range at the Zhuhai Air Show, whereas Meteor is 200km.
PL-15E is longer than RVV-AE for sure though. China and India both have complained about the relatively short max range and performance of the RVV-AE missiles, and started programs to develop their own once they saw how bad the Russian export models of the R-77 are.

The Pakistani J10CE planes have 139.5 KN of thrust because they have the Chinese WS10B Thrust Vectoring Engine NOT the weaker Russian Saturn Engine.. This extra thrust also makes the Radar more effective and brings the J10CE much closer to the Rafale's performance. The higher altitude ceiling of the J10CE compared to the Rafale means that the PL15 missiles will have much more kinetic energy and range. The low altitude celing of the Rafale means that the Meteor Missiles will have greatly reduced range and kinetic energy.
A Eurofigher Typhoon and launch a meteor missile from 55,000 feet and it's the real Meteor, not the export version India has. The Indian meteor export version launched from a Rafael's low altitude celing only has 60% of the range.
Three things: no, J10C does NOT have thrust vectoring. It was just a single prototype of a j10B demonstrated, all pictures of operational j10c shows the plane with a normal nozzle. Second pakistani will NOT have the PL15, but PL15E, export version, downgraded as well. The biggest advantage that Pakistan have over India is that when it comes to Aircraft maintenance or repair parts, they're easily accessible to get since the J10's are manufactured in China, their next door neighbour and iron brother. This also helps to facilitate any subsequent enhancements that the PAF wishes to make in the future. For India, if the Rafale needed any parts or repairs .....good luck to them trying to get them delivered all the way from France and then trying to have them installed only to find that the wrong parts were delivered.

@@JetlineMarvel no. it is based on he Israeli Lavi fighter that was canceled , which was based on the F-16. there was alot of controversy on how the design fell into China's hands back in the late 90s.
Rafale is definitely able to take out Grippen with right upgrades. People underestimate the Rafale too much.
Also it was based on the IA Lavi Fighter jet from Israel, not Grippen.
Pound for pound, the J-10C is a much more cost effective fighter aircraft, compared to the Rafiel. Besides, experience has shown that French aircraft seldom perform as advertised, and are priced well above their worth, and countries often only buy these French aircraft, when others are not available, due to political or other reasons.

Both are good aircrafts. J-10 AESA radar has about 1300 TR modules which is 500 more then Rafale's. J-10 radar has better anti-jaming capability & resolution. Many analysts call PL-15 as world's best AAM. Rafale has advantages in payload and Air to ground capabilities. Overall both jets can be given nearly same score, both are 4.5 generation in medium weight category.
Rafael's electronic countermeasures and electronic counter counter measures with SPECTRA , unmatched maneuverability, with meteor (dual pulse rocket motor missile with 150km, unlike dual pulse rocket motor pl15 with 145km range), plus rafale is a twin engine aircraft, has more power to give to its radar's tr modules, read any reliable source , meteor is the best bvr missile currently,
The only aircraft which can match rafale in all aspects is eurofighter typhoon(except 5th gen fighters).

@@pankajshishodia4004 if you add thrust of both Rafael’s engines, you will find that it is similar to the thrust produced by the single engine of the J-10. We will never know how much power is produced for each plane’s radar. As for Meteor and PL-15, we do not know the exact range, but we can compare the propulsion system they used.
Meteor chose an air breathing engine, which allows it to control the burn rate of its fuel to slowly cruise to its target and speed up when approaching target. PL-15 chose a dual pulse rocket that can burn the first stage, then choose when to burn the second stage to maximize range and speed near target.
The advantage of Meteor is that it can burn its fuel much more precisely to obtain the best range and terminal velocity. Downside is that it is air breathing, so the inlets on missile creates extra drag for the plane carrying it, also it cannot be lobbed high up into the air for long range shot, like normal missile, since the air is too thin for Meteor’s engine. Final point, Meteor accelerates very slowly at first due to its engine design, so conventional rocket based missile can hit Mach 3-4 in 3 seconds, while it make take 10-20s for Meteor to hit Mach3-4, making it ill suited to close range attack.
PL-15 carries most of the advantage and disadvantage of a conventional missile, with the added benefit of having a second rocket stage that can be ignited mid flight.
The J10 is comparable to the rafale but costs only a quarter of the purchase price of the rafale. The max speed of J10 is higher by 100 m/sec. Pakistan has made a good choice of purchasing the J10 as it can buy four J10 and India has only one rafale. The significant lower cost and comparable performance of the Chinese home grown J10 makes the J10 very competitive in the market of military aircraft.

During air to air following factors are imp:
1. Speed
2. Range
3. Angle
4. Altitude
5. Whether ac flying inward,side wise etc
6. All above factors decides the first shoot chances
Lastly, pilot is the key factor and how good he knows the enemy ac capability
All this data is good but other factors are the deciding factors
J10's single engine feature must have brought down a lot of the maintenance cost.

Hopefully it'll never happen but if Pakistan ever gets into a war, they'll be very please how the J-10CE will perform against other fighter jets, particularly those below 5th generation. If the Rafale is against the J-10C, the two are basically equivalent in fighting ability, but in the mid-range attack, the J-10C has a clear advantage. If the J-10C launches the "fight and run" volley tactics outside the line of sight , Gust will fall into the embarrassing situation of "can't catch up, can't escape".
In terms of long-range air-to-air missile confrontation, although the European "Meteor" missile has an advantage over PL-15E in range (Meteor has a range of 160 kilometers and PL-15E is 145 kilometers), it is also embarrassing because of the aircraft of the Rafale. The caliber of the head radar is only 400 mm, so although the performance of the RDS radar is good, the effective detection range is not more than 150 kilometers, which is smaller than the range of the "Meteor" missile. It needs another discount to detect the J-10C with a certain stealth effect. Therefore, the range advantage of the "Meteor" missile is limited by the RDS radar and cannot be used at all.

From 1:58 the radar comparison is baseless as Rafale has a first generation AESA radar made up of 838 GaAs T/R modules, whereas J-10C has the second generation AESA radar made up of over 1000 GaN T/R modules.

Cost depends on your currency value and not the avionics you put in there or engineering. Chinese currency is way low in comparison to other nations hence the aircrafts are cheaper.
