It's probably conditioner you can smell rather than washing powder.

    • @susie2251

I’ve lived in both Europe and the US. The washing powder smell is really simple...everyone uses conditioner (or what we Americans call fabric softener) because they will most likely be line drying. Many Americans don’t bother with fabric softener since most people dry their clothes in the dryer which softens them that way. But the most important factor is...most products are extremely more scented than they are in the US. Not in a bad way necessarily, just a LOT stronger. So of course that smell is going to linger whether or not you use only detergent or line dry or anything. Everything is just far more perfumed.
ETA: if you want to replicate this in the US, you should probably buy those scent enhancers they sell separately now in the US. The ones that are in smallish shaker bottles and are small pellets you out in with the clothes in the washing machine.

The English I learned at school was based on brittish vocabulary (I'm belgian).
But when I practise my English, I have much easier times to communicate with americans and canadians.
I personally find that americans speak easier , and that brittish people put sometimes too much stress on some vowels ..... (but that's personally).

      Shaw in his Pygmalion:
'The English have no respect for their language, and will not teach their children to speak it. They spell it so abominably that no man can teach himself what it sounds like. It is impossible for an Englishman to open his mouth without making some other Englishman hate or despise him. German and Spanish are accessible to foreigners: English is not accessible even to Englishmen.'

Your sentiments are not too unusual among Europeans whose mother tongue is other than English. On the continent most Europeans are taught British English. Then, because of the American influence that comes from entertainment, they usually feel more attracted to American English. They have more of a consistent exposure to it. The only people who choose to use British pronunciation and are not natives themselves are people from Pakistan and India.

    • @tibodeclercq2131

      yes, kind of agree.
I watch to quite a lot american series and american youtubers.
That is maybe why I sometimes have difficulties when i watch BBC, american talk shows and so on are more understandable to me.
      But let's illustrate with an example : If I say : "I can't".
      (+) The brittish people almost say " I coun't "
(++) Americans say it "I can't" more phonetic

    • @tibodeclercq2131

Our English teacher told us a few times to be aware of some differences between Brittish and american English. But we only use brittish english when brittish tourists come here (surprisingly there often come a lot here, I don't know why) and if we go to the UK.
On the Internet, it is all american English

    • @MarekzAnglii
      @MarekzAnglii 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

American English is lazy English. I'm not being critical just factual. E.g. you often hear Americans omitting the letter 't' in numerous words, as in 'twenty.' They'll pronounce the first 't' but the second 't' becomes an 'n'... "twenny." Or "wanna" instead of 'want to.' These are just two examples of MANY.

About Primark - yes it's cheap, but you should look into the manufacturing process and see how they can produce it this cheaply. Then decide for yourself if you feel you should still shop there. I'm not judging, just feel people need to make informed decisions.

Primark were discraced by the reaction to a building collapse several years ago in Bangladesh where it was noticed thet the slave/poorly labour we working for Primark. In England, later on they did a TV documentary and in the same factory complex ... they were making stuff for M&S and Next. M&S were similarly exploiting the poor people and making much fatter profits than Primax. You have to look further than Primark. In Indosnesia Nike make Trainers for over £100 and pay their workers next to nothing. It is a word wide phenomenon

Let's sum it up for the hard of learning across the pond. There is one language and no such thing as British, American, Indian or an other kind of English. There is just English. One language that comes from England and everything else is a local
or national dialect. I have no time for the English, but to hear some of these people going on about American English they must be deluded semi educated or both.

Last time I used a phonebox was around 1996, thanks for saying we drive on the "opposite" side of the road instead of "wrong" which most people do. Primark - yeah the stuff is cheap as it is made in China, but after 3 washes, the stuff starts fraying and falling apart. At 03:43 did you see the bloke stare at you? I have never heard of a "Paypass" i think we call it contactless, which is fantastically quick transaction. Max £30. Why do Brits smell so good, we normally add in a Fabric conditioner like "Lenor". Buy it, the instructions are on there. You add like around 100ml into the tray in the machine and it makes your clothes smell all nice!
Seriously don't scoop marmite, into your mouth. You spread it fairly lightly onto toast and it is fantastic! As with the English. The language does come from England, so probably not a good idea to suggest that English people talk in a certain way! Most English will tell you its everyone else that talks wrong!
Anyway lovely video, you are a lovely entertaining person. Subscribed and thanks!

Marmite is not eaten by all Brits, the tagline for it is "you either love it or hate it".
London is not Britain, there are over 70 dialects spoken in England alone. that's before you add in Scottish and Welsh accents/dialects.

Marmite is not the worst taste ever. If used properly and sparingly it is delicious and rich in vitamin B The reason it is packed in small jars is because you should only use a very small amount at a time and you never ever spoon it from the jar into your mouth.

Marmite is not the worst taste ever. It is supposed to be spread very thinly on toast and should never ever be eaten with a spoon. I have been eating Marmite now for over 80 years and I love it. It has soul, vibrancy and all that comes with being a big city. A foreigner can appreciate your capital and it’s ‘britishness’, but you can’t because it’s not like where you live. Very typical.

Apple Pay generally is your answer to Master pass
The technical name is NFC (near field communications). Most smartphones have it nowadays but its branded different things For example
    Apple Pay
    Samsung pay
    Android Pay
    Visa paywave
And MasterCard Masterpass is symply branding
Generally they have stopped or skipped putting an NFC chip into your US physical Credit Card, in favor of using just your Smartphone for Wireless Payments
Some banks however CAN mail you an actual card with wireless payment capability, but I dont know which banks still do..... but Nearly ALL have Apple pay but dont advertise it, because most people automatically have come to expect it
Very nice Brit accent for a RU
    ❤️

Sometimes the battery in your phone dies so it is a good idea to still have the phone booths. How long as this woman been gone in the UK for lol? Depending on the place you just put the card up close to a device instead of sliding it through but either way so long as it works.

I'm just saying but we Brits don't eat marmite by the spoonful , we spread marmite on our toast ( a very thin layer , with butter)

That's not a "British" accent there are dozens, if not a hundred or more variations of English accents. Not to mention different variations of Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish accents. London is NOT! Britain.

London is Britain. That phrase confuses foreign people. You mean London does not properly represent Britain. It is our capital.

The English Language along with its pronunciation is primarily rooted in England as that's the birth place of the language and other forms or accents outside of England are derivations. There's Canadian English, American English, Australian English etc but English from England along with the way it's pronounced is the benchmark for the rest

About your question, when was the last time I used a pay phone......it was late 2011. I was driving an 18 wheeler across the United States. I stopped for the night in rural Kansas. There was no cell phone service. So I used a pay phone to call my girlfriend back in North Carolina. Today she is my wife.

Wow, some of your points are not relevant. You mean the difference between San Francisco and the UK? In the east coast, we park like that because we have tiny streets and older houses, we have Primark in Boston, and have you ever heard of Apple Pay? Double decker buses? Have you tried mega bus?

  • @patrickeh696

Parking is the same in all crowded cities in the USA. Also, Pay Pass(tm) was invented in the USA by Mastercard. Most don't use it because it is inherently insecure. Marmite & Vegimite are in fact produced by US companies but taste so terrible that it never became popular in the US. Seattle & Las Vegas use double decker buses for public transit.

I know the Washingpowder-Smell you're talking about, because I used to live in Germany.
There is no Secret to it. I think it's just the moist Weather. I once left a Towel outside and it got washed by the Rain. After that it had the same kind of Smell. So I think it's just the Weather.
Many Guys actually stink! Ever since I started to shower twice a Day I realised that many Guys actually stink really bad. 😂😂

no body ever uses phone booths, I haven't used one for at least 15 years! I've no idea why they are still there. Also, the washing powder thing is because we line dry our clothes, most people don't use a dryer machine, much better for the environment too!

Rajul Saxena For the most part (today), phone booths belong to the users and abusers of class A substances - Predominantly heroin - Who can be found walking the streets at any hour of any day in their never ending search for enough change to call their dealer.
