Hi Barb I am with you on this and in actual fact the Renoir come in sets of 120 but I have only seen them on Asian stores, in fact as I mentioned to someone else, Marco have a few other sets that I would love to purchase and review they sell a set called Marco Tribute which are in a Gold tin. It is always dodgy purchasing from other countries but I want the Art Gear Guide to review products from all over the world, I would love The Art Gear Guide to hold the largest catalog of reviews so that no matter what you are looking for you will be able to find it on the website or channel. Thank you so much Barb
I have to admit I love tins. If it comes in a tin I keep it in a tin, was disappointed Prismacolor didn't come in a tin (but six pallets, so that you have to buy a pencil case.) After struggling I eventually took Black Widow out of their tins and put them into a case with the correct number of slots for the pencils. I honestly think colour pencils are bringing back tins. Thanks for the review!
I have a weakness for the tins too. Especially if they are sturdy, and have beautiful artwork on them. However, I find I use my pencils much more when they are in a case. I switch them in and out occasionally, if I want to use certain pencils more.
I am with you both on this matter, I really love pencils to come in Tins also and especially if the art work is nice. I reviewed a set not that long back and they had gorgeous artwork on the tin, I can't for the life of me remember the pencils, oh that will bug me all night lol lol
Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling all that great, hope you feel better! I love your videos, I have been binging them all ever since I found your channel.
Thank you so much Jessie for such a kind and generous comment I really appreciate it and I hope you are enjoying the videos that you are watching. I am always open to suggestions about what products to review so if you have an idea, just let me know and I will do my very best.
You REALLY need to try the KALOUR colored pencils. Really cheap BUT a good replacement for those who can not afford Prisma pencils.. Would LOVE to hear your opinion on them.. They come in a 180 set in a Red n White tin, the one with a deer? On the front of the tin... THANK YOU once again on a great vid...
I’ve been asked to review those in the past and I would love to but I can only get them in the US, which I don’t mind doing but they are currently out of stock on Amazon. As soon as I can get hold of the set I promise I will 100% review them. Thank you so much for the suggestion and for your support.
The red tin set is unavailable right now on Amazon. There is a 180 black tin with an elephant on it, the core is slightly thinner, and the barrels are painted to match the color of the lead. They are the same price, but I don’t know if they are as good. I haven’t seen any reviews on it.
It's a funny coincidence. I own two sets of pencils. One is Marco Raffine 72pcs, and another is watersoluble Kalour 72 pcs (black tin with an elephant). They were the cheapest offers on the market among "semi-professional" pencils - I got my Kalour set for less than $20 this June. I've never thought of them as "good", but I think they are a decent choice for a beginner with limited funds.
First comment 👊🏽 Keep going with the great work man, your reviews are so helpful for other colored pencils enthusiasts like myself, my best wishes from your friend Angel in México.
Thank you so much Angel my friend, Mexico, I would love to visit Mexico one day, it looks life such a beautiful country and I know there are some bad parts but doesn't every country have bad parts. so many people avoided my own country of Northern Ireland due to it being a war torn country in the 70's and 80's but there are some outstanding places of beauty in Ireland. Than you so much my friend for your wonderful comment, your friendship and your support
I love that you do review any kind of budget colored pencils and supplies, because some of them are really great products! I have seen these around for so many years, but not tried yet because of the relatively restricted color choice. Just to say, other brands have 72 colored pencils set with a little bit more variety of colors, and less of them being similar to each other) A great review as always, thank you. So sorry to hear that you haven't been good lately, hope you are feeling better soon! Many hugs and cheers to your family!
Hi Elisa, thank you so much for your wonderful comment, I do understand what you mean about sets of pencils were lots of pigments look the same, but I think with the Marco Raffine, there wasn't too many that looked the same. If you check out my written review I have added a swatch image, check that out and see if it is what you think because sometimes I know companies change their palettes and you mentioned that you have seen them around for years so I was just wondering if you could notice a change in the colors. Thank you so much
My second set of colored pencils, after Crayola, about 8 years ago for $13USD on Amazon. I still use and even store them together. They have a 120 set now on Amazon but $70USD is toooooo much. For some reason I find myself feeling looser, freer using these two pencils. I don't get as angry with myself when a project can't be rescued. They're my go to for days when I'm upset and have to do something but I don't know what. They take me back to my (adult) beginning with colored pencils when I didn't know that I'd grow into an uptight perfectionist. I have the Renoir almost as long and probably use them more often. IMO both are good pencils and have a place in my art supply drawer. Be well Harry.♿👵🎨Barb N.
Sorry to hear that you haven't been well. I'd love to see a comparison video. I've just purchased the raffine pencils and quite like them but I'd love to know how you think they compare with the renoir pencils. Feel better soon xx
Never clicked so fast! I value your opinion and remember asking you about these pencils not a long time ago, so this video is like a late Christmas present :) Found the Raffines on Aliexpress for 17E, such a steal! Also, do you think they would work well in colouring books? Have a lovely day! xx
They are perfect in colouring books I mentioned in my written review that I tested them in two different colouring books and they were perfect. Also, have you ordered through Aliexpress before and if so was the service good. I have ordered a few pencils to review because they are from Asia and I want to make my reviews as diverse as possible, I want to review every single Colored pencil in the world and so need stores like this to help me buy from all these amazing countries
@@TheArtGearGuide I rushed to leave a comment and didn't read the written review! I've ordered a couple of times from Aliexpress and didn't experience any issues. Orders arrived during the estimated period of time, nicely packaged, no issues with the products. The sellers are also putting a lower cost of the goods on the outside package so the customers don't risk paying import fees hehe >:) If you choose a seller that's been on the platform for some time, has fulfilled a lot of orders and has a positive feedback, I don't think you'll have a problem! Hope that helps xx
Hi Nicanor, I think that is a very valid point you make, because the Raffine layer really well and a lot of the pigments are quite translucent, I can absolutely see why they would be very good for portraits. Excellent comment and thank you so much
Great review as always. :D I tried these some years back, and I could not really get the hype. There are many budget pencils out there, that are much better, then the Marco's. But maybe I would feel different, if I tested them now. After coloring for 6 years. Who knows? I think you gave them a fair chance, and the artwork is great as always. So of course you can use them, and get good results. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well.
Hi May thank you so much for your comment and I think you are exactly right in what you have said about other better budget pencils. there are so many budget pencils on the market at the minute and some of them are absolutely outstanding. I have to say though, if you read my written review on these, the Marco brand in China have a really beautiful selection of pencils, they have a set called Marco Tribute, in a gold tin and I am trying to get my hands on a set to review.
I used a set of these 4 years ago and found the results were almost but not quite as good as the Prismas. They are not as pigmented. Also you really need to swatch them because the color on the end does not match the pencil. I gave mine away after a year and moved on.
Hi Jean, I think for me personally I much prefer the Marco Renior, I think they are much closer to Prismas, they have a nice soft core and are quite pigmented but as with the Raffine, and as you quite rightly pointed out, neither pencil sport identical pigment identifiers to their cores. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment
I’d have to say Kalour, I love the products from Marco and recently, the past few years or so, they have really expanded their range adding sets like the Marco Tribute. However, although the Rafine impressed me, as I avoided the review for years because they didn’t think they looked all that good, on this pencil alone from Marco, I think the Kalour pencils are slightly better, they just have the edge. Hope this helps and sorry for the delay in replying.
The french put an accent aigu on the é for a reason, it's so you know how to pronounce the name correctly [rä-fē-nā] or "ra fin nay", and not "raf fine".
I am so grateful you have dedicated your valuable time to help correct my illiterate ignorance, it will not happen again and thank you so much for such a kind gesture in helping an illiterate such as myself and not even ask to be paid or compensated for your time. Thank you so much I am eternally grateful
Did you REALLY just correct Harry about pronunciation, when he is donating his time, talent and knowledge for nothing? Rude, sir, and ignorant as well. Little advice, from me, for free. Stay off sociial. media. You are what is commonly known as a TROLL.

I try to cover every single aspect of the product to fit the needs and wants of as many of you guys as I can. This is why I test on black paper, test using OMS, I personally never use OMS but as a reviewer I know a lot of you guys do and so I need to show those of you who do use OMS what the pigment is like once OMS is used. I want when artists go to buy a new art supply to think 🤔 “Let me check The Art Gear Guides catalog of reviews to see if the product is going to work for me.
I prefer Marco Renoir, a step up from Raffine. They have 100 colors. Plus, they are 3.7mm. Raffine are 3.3mm.
