    I had decided a few days prior to your video to put plaster on top of wood and engrave it. I like your idea as the material will be much lighter!

    I'm not sure of others who use a Hotwire cutter to cut styrofoam (regardless of its kind) but when I do, the second you stop moving the piece of Styrofoam, that's the second it unwillingly cuts into the styrofoam and ruins the shape of what you are trying to shape. I found that it is (75% of the time) worth the little more effort to use a rasp or knife.

    Is this much detail just for your foreground walls or quick enough that you customize things far from the viewer’s eye?

    • @marklinofsweden
      @marklinofsweden  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is quick enough for most purposes. The engraving is not so time cunsuming really. The paintwork and the weathering is more lengthy. Those can however be reduced for background purposes.

    Wonder what you could make a stamper from that lasts other than steel, maybe cast it in aluminium? But your result is very convincing.....

    • @marklinofsweden
      @marklinofsweden  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steel is probably a whole lot better than the soft aluminum I used. The aluminum get blunt in no-time..

    Where can you get foam like that in the U.K.? What is it called?

    • @marklinofsweden
      @marklinofsweden  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrDobilina Hi! The brand is called "Styrofoam". It should be available in Uk too + a number of equivalents from different manufacturers. Any DIY supply store should have them.

    • @Darko-mb9cm
      @Darko-mb9cm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what you're needing is xps, also known as extruded polystyrene. if you just ask for polystyrene in the UK, people tend to think you mean expanded polystyrene, which is the stuff made up of "beads", which is impossible to sand successfully. xps will allow you to mark details etc into it without running the risk of it breaking up bead by bead. hope that helps.
