- The Lockheed P-3 Orion, a four-engine turboprop aircraft, was developed in the 1960s for the United States Navy to perform anti-submarine and maritime surveillance missions. Adapted from the Lockheed L-188 Electra commercial airliner, it is easily identified by its unique tail stinger or "MAD" boom, which is utilized for detecting magnetic anomalies associated with submarines.

Very fine report. Some depth and excellent scope. A very fine aircraft alright. Thanks for posting.
Many thanks!
Had that Iranian P3 come within 20 miles of the U.S. Navy in the late 80's, early 90's, it would have become a home for fish.
Yes they would have blown them out of the sky.Can anyone tell me when they changed that policy and why?

I was an avionics tech on P-3s and got out of the Navy in 1975. I was asked by the Lockheed Tech Rep when I got out if I was interested is going to Iran and working on their P-3s. I didn’t go, but Iran was a different place then. It was a pretty lucrative job at the time. I ended up in the oil fields in Alaska.
Before P3 turns American boats into coral reefs, of course
@@Unknown_Iranian_Soldier1 It's pretty hard to release missiles from the bottom of the ocean. But I'm serious, those were tense times. The iranian navy got a little taste of what the u.s. navy can do and they backed down within 24 hours. No nation on earth has more warships, subs, aircraft carriers, fighter jets, attack helicopters, bombers, missiles, bullets, smart bombs, spy satellites, spy drones, attack drones.. it's simply not a fair fight for anyone.
I was a P3 Radio operator/ IFT for 16 years, fine aircraft that always brought us home from a mission.
Lockheed Aerospace Corp....the P-3 and C-130 were among the finest aircraft ever built. They've definitely flown more missions than the U-2 and SR-71...while not as fast or secret....definitely played pivotal roles for the last 60 years.
Great summary…P-3s doing their thing(s)!
Thank You U.S. Military News & Sam, I believe I've watched every video you folks have posted, and It's one of my favorites, 👍🇺🇸
some planes you just can’t beat
I talked to the pilot of this same P3 on many deployments!
STILL A P3 FLYING OUT OF PONIT MUGU, I WORKED ON AND BUILT P -3 s + L 188s MODIFIED FOR CARGO IN ALASKA
Iran has begun to dare to act, supported by Russia, Iran's military strength is increasingly sophisticated
I tested many developmental system integrations back in the 1990s. Great plane.
VP-22 and VP-47 in the 90's Barbers Point Hi. A great plane to work on and fly in.
This one buzzed us back in 2012.
BRAVO...👏 Thank you..👍👍✌
We are stupid enough to let them. This is pure provocation and the more we allow it the more our adversaries will do it.
Iranians probably running Atari for their software on the Orion……
Was just trying together back home to B6 at BURBANK
I believe the practice of shutting down an engine while on patrol was pioneered by the Royal New Zealand Air Force in the late 1960s.
Cool
Where do they get parts for the aircraft?
never talked about the Iranian P-3
Covered very well vp1 Barbers Point Hawaii 1985
They have these in Jaxsonville and they are a submarine chair plain they fly all day long
Where do they get spare parts??
It's a shame the Navy is retiring the P-3 Orion, I missed my opportunity to serve with this great aircraft, 😕
cool story, tell it again?
it served for 60 years, how do ya miss that?
@@danger3_255 did you?
@@danger3_255 always a heckler looking for a jab, now that's a good story
Lol so if something better comes along we shouldn’t use it? Because you missed your chance? Lol
It flies the same route most days checking oil rigs and Iranian waters, and has done for years.
if it is true why it wasnt shot down?
that pov at 3:16 and 7:56 is scary as heck. those guys are amazing!
Iranian P-3 Orion Buzzes U.S. Navy Ships Several Times in Gulf of Oman.
Please use the music in the beginning its the only reason im here it goes hard with the information
Not the P8 poisidon?
P-3 and P-8 are easy targets for the j20 PL-15.
Why can it fly so close you ask? An ol wise man once said: "If you owe the bank 30,000.00 dollars, the bank owns you. However, if you owe the bank 30 -million- billion dollars, YOU own the bank..."
i thought the P-8 was replacing the Orion
Such stubby little props.
Why does the department of commerce have one of these?
wait, Iran has P3?
It really Burns me that a country like Iran has something that's made in America 😡
There's a bunch of countries that have military equipment that was made in America. We're the world's biggest weapons sellers.
When the Ayatollah overthrew the shah back in '79, he wasn't about to get rid of the billions of dollars worth of state of the art military equipment left behind.
8251 For life!
Cool looking plane, but wtf Iran?
why does Iran have p-3f Orion in there hands to use on us?
50 years ago Iran was our friend. Many of these aircraft were maintained with the assistance of former P-3 sailors. I was offered a job when I got out of the Navy in 1975 as an AX2 to go over there and work. These were pretty lucrative jobs at the time.
Because America sold it to them 🤣
That's not unusual. Pop culture makes us think that "good guys" have American weapons and "bad guys" have Russian made weapons but the truth is that people use whatever they can buy and American, Russian, British, Israeli etc weapon systems often fight against each other.
Iran also the only country that still flies F-14s.
@@Chris_at_Home man thats some kinda mess up her they brain washing us to hate these people then were friends and then were not this is really bad stuff going on
🙏❤️🇺🇲

And where would such an Islamic country get an American built aircraft from. HMMMM.
First please pin me ❤😢
😎
You're the second moron I've seen today asking for that same, ridiculous thing. Are you older than 12? If so, grow up.
Who would want to fly in a Boeing DEI built Jet. You are putting your life at risk flying in any Boeing Jet.
Probably because the Us warship was in Iranian waters... good.
