    Been debating on rebuilding my DE and haven’t really found a great rebuild video… this is awesome man!

    Dude, i love your videos on the tear-down and rebuilding process.
    I have a G35 with a DE that I've owned for 7 years now, initially had 70k when i bought it and has 250k+ miles now with lots of leaks and oil burning, my G35 has been hella modded on the exterior with custom widebody aftermarket bumpers etc, so i think its time for some motor work cause this car is here to stay with me.
    With such high mileage, i definitely want to rebuild my motor and your videos have eased my nerves about doing it on my own, i am not a mechanic by any means but I do know my way around this car and the motor, just never pulled the motor to do a rebuild before.
    You provided so many useful tips and great information about your process and seeing you take your time on this is motivating me to start mine and realize that I can do it at my own pace carefully as you are doing it.
    Great videos man, i hope to see more on your datsun and the VQ35 rebuild!

    dude your videos have so much valuable information holy I didn’t know about how the head studs are meant to put equal force that’s very interesting, good to see you’ve put a lot of time and effort into looking at forum information very cool to see you’ve done a whole engine rebuild by yourself, will you be using the oem three piece intake manifold if so will you be getting those polished.

    • @OldDatsun

      Thanks! And good to know with the OEM setup. I definitely will not be running the oem plenum but I am debating between the Kinetix intake and itb's

      @@OldDatsun dope, just some friendly information to know, motordyne makes a thermal gasket that sits in between the lower runners to the middle oem plenum I’ve done a video on the temperature test and it really reduces intake manifold temp, since oem gaskets are metal it allows for metal on metal heat soak, I have that and a plastic throttle body gasket as well. At the time I was not aware they made a plastic gasket for the lower runners to the block, so I haven’t gotten around getting that but I can only imagine how much more that would reduce heat since it’s reducing heat transfer straight from the block, ofc that is you wanna squeeze out every last bit of hp, thanks for the content 👍

    Hell yeah awesome dude. I'm rebuilding my vq35de at the moment too. Can you show a video of timing the engine once the heads are back on and ready for the chain install??

    You talk about the gap dimensions for the new cams in the beginning of the video, can you give our information on how those are set what you do to verify and where the dimensions are thanks.

    • @terrymurry3961

      I found where you talk about this but you used a stock cam. Do you have anything on a more aggressive cams installation?

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I should have shown it but you use a feeler gauge between the cam lobe and the pads on top of each valve when the valve is closed. Although they are larger cams, these gaps are still the same as stock. This is also why I was able to reuse my original pads.
      The gap is the distance between the lobe when the valve is closed and not when the lobe is depressed on the pad, opening the valve.

    Did you line up tdc before installing the cams? I have a de that’s needs some work so awesome informative video, cheers

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I left the first piston at TDC but the cams won't sit exactly where you need them. After I installed the cam gears and lined up the timing chains I still needed to adjust the cams with a wrench to get the correct positions.

    Amazing content. Can I please get the specs on the BC cams?

      Here's a link to Brian Crower's page for them. I went with the stage 3 but they offer other specs as well.

    I just tore down my revup yesterday and I was absolutely horrified to see there were no bearings in the cam caps. I didn’t know they didn’t use bearings in the cam caps in these engines.

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's new to me as well. Do you know if Nissan changed that with the VQ37?

    Did you check your lifter cap see if it was the same after all the machine work

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I made a chart for where each lifter came from and reinstalled them accordingly. I also checked all of the gaps between them and the cams once they were installed

    Did you have to check the clearances on the Stage 3 cams?

    • @OldDatsun

      Yes, I check to ensure there would not be any issues

    What head gasket thickness did you go with since you had your block and heads resurfaced

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The head gaskets I went with are 96mm by 0.91mm. The standard thickness is 0.76mm. The guys who did the machining let me know the difference I needed to make up with the gaskets.

    Curious if the valve lash needed adjustment after you touched up the seat and valves?

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not had the engine running yet but measurements are still within factory specs so I'll at least be comfortable breaking the engine in

    • @highinthedirt
      @highinthedirt ปีที่แล้ว

      @OldDatsun i recall there was like 26 different height lifters in the plant.

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's why I labeled and kept each lifter to it's original valve. I also had the advantage of the machine shop so between my measurements and theirs everything is to the proper clearance.

    How much power will ported heads make on a de

    • @OldDatsun
      @OldDatsun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a bit difficult for me to determine what porting alone will do because its usually in tandem with bigger cams and intake upgrades. Most people who have done it report 5-10 hp gain.
      Again, the intake runners on these heads are already pretty large but porting them will increase the volume of air moving into the engine.

      @@OldDatsun im doing 272 cams and headers, so 10whp just off of ported heads ?
