keep going man, i was just looking for someone to show an in depth vq35 teardown that I want to do in the coming years now that I finally have my 350z, I plant on putting a Pro charger and rebuilding the internals to allow for the engine to make 450hp at the wheel, these videos have been a great help in motivating me to research as much as I can before I dive into my build, I will definitely come back to these videos for reference once I am rebuilding the block and head. Keep up the good work man, I cannot say it enough, these videos are great.
Amazing video, I can’t explain how nervous I am to start my build being 18 years old with no experience but you’ve given me a confidence to finish ordering my parts. Your expertise in making every part the best possible option is amazing. Appreciate the help and im copying your build 😂
love your vq35de build series very huge help i just threw a rod on my boosted vq35de so im goin 2 be building a engine very soon and all your advice and research has been a huge help
nicely done. I don't recommend lighter pully as those harmonics will shoot back into crank bearings and score them. unless the engine is balanced by a very experienced machine shop then you can consider it.
Where are you at lol, I been watching the built, I’m waiting on what you did to put the clutch and stuff on lol great videos tho bro keep up the good work
@@OldDatsun nice I can’t wait yea I know how that be brotha life and works, I’m doing an engine built on a g35 coupe engine rev up, I’m in the process of putting everything back together. I even bought the greddy oil drain plug I’m getting the oil pan too that you got
While a light flywheel will help it rev faster, you sacrifice a lot of drivability. For a mostly tracked car not a big deal. For a street car the juice is not worth the squeeze
is it worth getting the pan or a spacer in your opinion as the baffles aren't that large, does it still keep the oil centred on the pick up tube do you think ?
From reading other people's experiences, the baffles still keep oil centered around the pickup. They are small but they do help keep more oil centered for the pickup.
@@OldDatsun Great news! I keep coming back every once in a while to see if there's a new video so I can learn more about engines, specifically the VQ platform. I just absolutely love the 350Z and hope to own one eventually, and a bit of additional knowledge can't hurt. Plus, I'm curious about what the finished Datsun will look and sound like!
hey.. just came across your channel and I am very interested now because I have a car that has that engine too so Im curious where did you get the crank pulley ???? thanks in advance
Its wider and flat on the bottom whereas a stock one is slanted a bit but looks to he the same height. It's made for a 350Z so it should fit fine with the sway bar.
So a general break would be: Rods and pistons about $1800 Brian Crower cams $1500 Machining about $600 maybe And then I opted into a lot of small things that all together add benefit to the build which I'd guess at another $2500 to $3000. So $6500 to $7000 as a guess. The prices change alot and I get everything for Concept Z Performance who usually have a lot of this stuff on sale.

Much appreciated! Words like that inspire me to do more so it's a win-win!
Now I'm invested, super good and informative stuff you've got here! Ready to see it put in the car!
The VQ is going in the Datsun in the upcoming video

I love this! I'm happy these videos can give you confidence in your build. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm glad the videos can help
Appreciate these detailed videos. Took my motor apart in my maxima months ago and forgot how to put it back LOL really should have just pulled it out
Thanks! Happy to hear these videos are being enjoyed
Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks! Currently working on it
Following along. Getting ready tear my engine down. Will you be finishing the top end. Fuel rails and valve covers
Yup! In an upcoming video I'm doing fuel rails, intake, and ignition
nicely done. I don't recommend lighter pully as those harmonics will shoot back into crank bearings and score them. unless the engine is balanced by a very experienced machine shop then you can consider it.
Yeah I agree. Like I said dont be surprised if you see a balancer in the future haha

Thank you! Yeah life and work sometimes keeps me from making steady videos but I am working on the next one

Keep it up bruh ❤️
Thanks!
Do u ever track your cat or what is your primary use of the vehicle
While a light flywheel will help it rev faster, you sacrifice a lot of drivability. For a mostly tracked car not a big deal. For a street car the juice is not worth the squeeze
Sweet! 😂
It's awesome to see the de getting some love. What ecu are you going to run?
I'm looking into haltech but havent done a whole lot of research into it yet. I also have a stock de ecu that maybe able to get reflashed
@OldDatsun bro just do the haltech, admin tuning is junk for the in depth build ur doing

Whats the torque spec on vq35 harmonic balancer bolt ?
What size where the putter plug lug sizes
Are you able to remove rear timing cover without dropping upper oil pan and have it seal properly?
Yes you can, you only need to remove the lower oil pan
new vid out soon?! 😅
Yes, actually. Hoping to wrap it up in the next week or so. I needed this motivation 😂

All parts are from Concept Z Performance. They have a great selection and usually best prices
Is that new pan deeper then stock only reason I ask I'd like to get one but don't want it hanging down below the sway bar

@@OldDatsun nice can't wait for next video. So much information
Thinking Fluidamper or an ATI piece?
I've looked at an ATI dampener but havent made a purchase yet
whats teh cost been so far want to be the ballpark of what i need to have to start this
So a general break would be:
Rods and pistons about $1800
Brian Crower cams $1500
Machining about $600 maybe

How much do you think you'll have spent at the end with the full rebuild?
Somewhere between $8k-$9k. That's all parts, the original purchase of the engine, and machine work.
@@OldDatsunjust in parts? 😬🤐 I was planning on doing something similar and was shooting for 3k. 😅😢
Is that US dollars?
Did you just lube the Rear Main with oil?
Yeah
Do you have an instagram?
Yeah @old_datsun
