Marquee by Behr is branded as their premium paint that's at the top of their paint line. It's said to have excellent coverage and is meant to compete with the likes of Benjamin Moore Aura and Sherwin Williams Emerald. Does it have what it takes?

I used Marquee to cover a bright red from the previous owner. The light blue for my son’s nursery truly covered in one coat. I was shocked!

I covered deep burgundy walls with Behr Marquee Ginger Sugar in ONE coat! Ginger Sugar is very light with an LRV of 70. I usually use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, but this stuff is AMAZING. I am so glad you are doing videos on this line!

This is hands down the best paint I have ever used.
I never used it before because of the price. I am not a professional handyman. I am just a regular guy who works all week and doesn't have a lot of time for home improvement.
I have used other brands of paint like valspar from lowes. The crap peeled off easily with fingernails after a couple of days. Yes, I cleaned the walls. No, I was not painting laytex over oil. It was just a chit paint that burned me twice.
I tried Behr Marquee today. I washed the walls. One coat completely covered the walls. I applied two coats anyway. I couldn't scratch the paint off the walls after 90 minutes.
I am sold on this paint. Excellent product even though it's high in price.... But the saying of you get what you pay for is true

Just my recommendation since I literally just used a Marquette semi gloss; did a 16 x 12 kitchen with one coat using a light yellow color over 2 coats of primer. The wall itself is an older house so the walls aren't drywall rather plaster over wood. Gotta say it came out fantastic, still have half a can left. Used a premium roller from home depot.

I highly recommend the Marquee exterior paint. I painted my house a pale yellow over 10 years ago and I live in Florida. This paint has been through hurricanes, humidity, direct sun, etc and it still looks great. Pick a color that is somewhat subdued or pastel like, I did paint my detached garage bright orange and that one is showing signs of fading after a decade in Florida weather and sun. The paler colors will wear better. It is worth spending more on a quality product that you get double the life span from in comparison to competitor brands.

I just painted my front door with marquee exterior. Seems to be good. Dry really fast. Waiting to do a 2nd coat, before restalling the locks and accessories. 1qrt last a long time, still has 80% left after 1 coat. May use the rest for other projects, gutters, screen door, windows etc. For 25 bucks, good stuff

I have painted a few houses with this paint recently. It does cover in one heavy coat. Yes you have to back roll but why come back twice? Two coats looked just as good as one thick & heavy coat from my experience.

I’ll give Benjamin Moore the edge in color selection, but the ease of coverage with Behr is unmatched. I love it. I had to find something to replace my Ralph Lauren paint. It had a cream-like consistency and depth to color. Now I have turned to Behr Marquee.

I painted the master with marquee. Light blue accent and a dark royal blue walls. The old color was a very.... interesting gold mattalic paint with a brush pattern my grandma had done. I used brushes for corners and a basic roll brush. It covered very well It did most of the job on the first coat but I did a second and it was covered. even the very light blue I used covered the gold in just three. For breaks I wrapped the roller in a plastic bag tightly. Was fine even overnight did not dry up at all.

Just a little note, technically, the “one coat coverage guarantee” only applies to their specific color tints that are indicated to be part of the one coat coverage guarantee.
For instance, in their Whites, only ONE specific white, Cameo White, is actually included in the guarantee.
That said, BEHR Marquee is the only paint I use, and I usually give it two coats, mainly because I’m not a great painter, and I often mis a spot, or paint unevenly.

We've had good results with different Behr paints over the years. While I like the brand, my experience with Marquee is that it's not a one-coat paint, as advertised. My most recent use was painting over 'antique white' with the lighter color of 'Swiss coffee' ~ still took 2 coats. Very durable though.

Wait, you just said (4:13) that if you use the one-coat guaranteed color you would have to 'figure out the color you are covering up'??? That doesn't make sense to me. The one-coat guaranteed colors as I understand it have been tested to cover any color, hence the guarantee, so if you're going over a colored wall and don't want the hassle of a second coat I would guess that the one-coat guarantee is an advantage...? That said, I have had success with one coat over tinted (light color) walls using a custom color. Also, I disagree on the 'skinning over too quick' issue. I did not find I ever had problem rolling, cutting and taking breaks with respect to the paint forming a skin too quickly.

I have a new gallon of behr satin white enamel, and plan on doing my oak grain kitchen cabinets this spring using a sprayer...as well as my walls (Aegean teal)... I am planning on painting some furniture white as well, as they are integrated into the kitchen..
I debated (still) on getting the "Beyond" paint in bright (bright) white for the cabinets, and because one furniture piece is a mix of laminate and solid wood...
Do you think I'd be ok using the Behr white for everything? When it comes to the laminate piece (large) I'm thinking scuff and spray it with primer anyway... despite the paint/primer claim of Behr.
Same with the cabinets you think?
Walls are already painted eggshell white. Trim painted gloss white...so No prime needed. Using sherwin William's Agean teal on the walls.

If you don’t use a cabinet paint with Alkaloids in it ...you will need a poly top coat to harden the surface
There’s tons of Pinterest on painting cabinets as well as Bob Vila guys on TH-cam etc. Sanding off shine but not down to bare wood, 2 coats Kilz3 primer foam roller then brush - wait 2 days to do Benjamin Moore ADVANCE satin paint - Amazing Self Leveling -shrinks down even the primer layer - so your oak grain shows. We plan spray the doors after sanding & priming because the small hand painted ones show any errors like twice brushing over 1st or 2nd coat. 2nd coat no sooner than 16 hours is critical .
Very happy with cabinet backs /Island / ends and fronts.
      Best of luck!

      @GilBatesLovesyou 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@thepaintpeople For technique, would you say overall treat it like Regal or Aura? I was surprised my first time using Aura as I thought "this is like Behr Ultra." I'm willing to revisit Behr as in 2012/2013 I did my first DIY paint jobs with Behr, then I got more paint experience and tried some again in 2015 and it was awful. Later I got some Behr Alkyd and it was super good and like Advance, and I'm wondering if with their reformulations now if they've changed back to being a decent paint. I used an old can of Behr PP from 2013 on some door frames a few days ago and was really impressed with it, so I knew it wasn't just my imagination in 2013.
For covers, I normally use Arroworthy 9/16" microfibers prewetted, but would this paint be better with a Wooster Microplush 5/16"? Does it tolerate backrolling? I tend to backroll everything down and Aura doesn't really tolerate it that well, but Regal is usually OK with that technique.

From what I’ve seen, Behr cures too soft, is prone to surfactant leaching, looks old and chalky much faster than true premium paints. Behr has glowing reviews that make a big deal about it’s coverage and its low price, but personally, I’d rather spend 25% more and use 25% more paint to get a better result.

The surfactant leaching happens with all paints when you put the wrong kind of paint in bathrooms or kitchens with tons of air moisture and don't have proper ventilation.
This absolutely will not happen with proper paint and sheen choice for the space and application.

If Behr was good they would have a paint store. It’s equal to the lower end paints from BM and SW in my experience. If I want to spend less I’m still going to buy lower end BM and SW. And the customer service and support from the people selling BM and SW is unparalleled.

I wouldn't recommend it. The actual color was never right and I had 3 different wall colors from the same paint.

Behr is not that good you waste more money buying gallons of paint because it doesn’t cover as well,ur better off getting Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams

@Steven Strain I'm using the Marquee exterior paint, highest quality. I hear that it sprays nicely, but I don't use a sprayer. There is a ton of drag on my brush and it's hard to keep a wet edge because the paint dries too fast. I tried a smooth nap roller, but even that left marks. I called Home Depot who gave no useful help or advice but told me when the Behr rep would be in. I'm definitely going to have to use a second coat; fortunately, I will have enough paint left to accomplish that. I will probably use another brand for my next project.
