It’s quite impressive of how Darby outsmarted Joseph for how much of a strategist And emotion player Joseph is . He even mind played Kars,Esidisi and Wahmu, strategists that were smarter than him in so many fields than him.
This is bullshit. While admittedly Joseph used luck as part of his wins, but in this one, he could use Hamon to make liquid malleable enough. Joseph lost only for Jotaro to take the seat.
This D’arby two parter is so good I love that even though it’s not a direct fight the battle is probably one of the most intense in the entirety of stardust crusaders.
famously one of the best battles in all of JoJo. it's also pretty cool that this is the first character death in Stardust Crusaders, both Polnareff and Joseph in one episode.
Literally one of ,if not the, best singular minor antagonist in all of Jojo and a perfect showcase of how good Stand fights can get. The fact that D'arby takes out both Polnareff and Joseph without ever laying a single finger on them and just being a good cheater is *amazing*
the battle against D'arby highlighted something important in JOJO. the battles in Jojo are more then fights of strength, it requires wisdom to figure out your opponent's strengths and weakness and how you can beat the opponent with your own strengths and weakness
Yup, it's a trend that becomes more and more prevalent with each new part. Parts 7 and 8 are famous for having very few "punchy" fights, the vast majority of stand battles being elaborate mental puzzles involving all sorts of intrincate and exotic abilities.
Fun fact: for that opening card trick in D’arby’s introduction, David Productions had brought in a magician to perform that same trick as reference. Someone else was able to recreate it and put up a video a few months ago too (can’t tell if the video/side-by-side uploader is actually the guy in the video, but it’s the first result after looking up D’arby shuffle). It’s impressive to say the least.
You missed while talking to each other that the cat was actually D'Arby's and hence why the cat took the left fish instead of right. He didn't do anything else other than influence the cat. 1 stand can only have 1 power.
darby's probably the bet of the random stand users in part 3. His stand is EXTREMELY specific (it steals the souls of those darby beats in a bet) but he works that to his advantage. He doesn't NEED reality warping or time stopping powers because he's already both clever and also makes sure to be prepared ahead of time, giving himself an advantage. And that's why he's more dangerous than past foes: he's EXTREMELY smart and sneaky and has already taken down two of the heroes in record time.
This set a new tone for Jojo battles where you get fights that aren't fights, but are instead other forms of confrontations or contests. It's a real defining moment for the franchise
Some more info Alicia, the cat is D'arby's, so he discreetly directed it to the meat he wanted. Also when we reach the end of Part 3, I'll reveal some cool tidbits that reveal some cool foreshadowing for repeat viewers from This, and N'Doul's(Geb's) fights!
He didn't train the cat to go after the smaller piece but he did trained the cat to follow his finger. If Darby swipe his fight to left the cat to get the left first same thing as if he swipe right so that he got full control
This one fight was the sole inspiration inspiration for the entirety of Yu-Gi-Oh. You can even see it in Yugi himself, man is basically wearing a Jotaro cosplay.
Concerning the cat at the beginning: D'Arby flat out introduced the cat as "his" cat. Being his pet, it will always go for the food he throws. It's alright if you missed it. Everybody does.

Jojo fans are the only guys who can say one of their fighting anime's best fights was made around a cat choosing beef, two dudes tossing coins in a drink, and a guy wagering his mother's soul.
D'arby, far as I can find, isn't a music reference. But here's the kicker. He shares voice actors with Liquid Snake, both his english and japanese voice actor's also voiced Liquid in their languages. Liquid Snake is the primary antagonist of Metal Gear Solid 1.
Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite fights in all of Jojo and one of Mt favorite fights in anime history and yet it's one of the least violent/confrontational fights ever! It's not a battle of strength, speed, or battle technique, but a battle of pure wits, cheating, and bluffing. Combine that with the high stakes of souls being on the line and you get one of the best duels of any show! Plus, that ending is so goddamn solid and tense! I won't spoil it, but the first time I saw the outcome genuinely had me shocked!

By the way, do you plan on doing Hamon Beat's videos or other JoJo creators after finishing JoJo? He has great videos about music, film, art etc. references and a lot of great trivia and facts that are really fascinating (although it is true that those contain also Part 7 and 8 Manga). Still mad Joseph didn’t do any hamon trickery when he’s literally playing a game based around liquid. Him hyperventilating is mad too since I’d think he’s pretty good at fucking breathing
This and the next episode is one of the best encounters in the series. D'Arby is an absolute unit of a minor antagonist. While I disagree with Jotaro on him being the most dangerous Stand user upto now (Death 13 was, not even close. Hell, that baby was so dangerous that Kakyoin is STILL the only team member that knows about him), I'd say he is second best, immediately followed by High Priestess and Geb. Fun fact, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh cites this episode as the main inspiration for the original manga of that series, since it gave him the idea of "an Egyptian guy playing games of chance to defeat evildoers"
In the episode Darby a Says that the cat is his cat so ge probably just pointed at the left meat or the cat is just trained to go after what Darby throws first
the implication is that he trained it to do that. no idea how he managed to train a cat, as far as im aware no one can tell a cat to do anything, but he did.

This battle influenced so many things, like Kaiji Ultimate Survivor and Yu Gi Oh
I dont know if you guys saw but D’arby mentions the cat was his
Still mad Joseph didn’t do any hamon trickery when he’s literally playing a game based around liquid.
In the episode Darby a
Says that the cat is his cat so ge probably just pointed at the left meat or the cat is just trained to go after what Darby throws first
D'arby did say that it was his cat but I still don't know how the cat would get it right unless he like telepathically spoke to it or some shit.
the implication is that he trained it to do that. no idea how he managed to train a cat, as far as im aware no one can tell a cat to do anything, but he did.
Ant: *Mentions Stopping time*
The viewers: *Nervously sweat*
This was just felines getting revenge for when Joseph bulled one last part
Joseph but if you lose the duel, you'll lose your soul!
Omg this is literally the best enemy in part 3, I f*cking love D'arby
