  • Cancer Bridges welcomed medical students from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School to discuss the Longitudinal Alliance Program. First-year medical students are matched with patients being treated for chronic conditions throughout the Pittsburgh area. This creates meaningful relationships between patients and medical students. Students meet with their patients a few times each year, for a total of 4 years, based upon student/patient availability. As students grow in knowledge and awareness of the patient experience of the Health Care System, they also grow in empathy and compassion causing them to become educated, well rounded, trustworthy physicians. Every medical student is bound by the same privacy laws that physicians are and are eager to be part of the patient healthcare journey. Recorded July 17, 2024.
