Regarding filing taxes: some 20 years or so ago, Skatteverket (the Swedish tax office) decided to try an approach they had not had previously. They tried making it easy to fill out the forms! In those days everything was on paper, and they made it easy to fill out the forms, even for the more advanced things like profits from the stock market and selling real estate. And lo and behold: people did "the right thing", and actually _payed_ taxes! Since then filling in the forms, whether they are on paper on electronic, has been easy, with a lot of the numbers already filled in. If everything the tax office has been told by your employer and bank is correct, all you have to do is sign the paper (or electronic form) and send it in.
I really dont think its that bad if you start a company Of cause you have to colect all the numbers your self, but if you file it running, you can pretty much transfer it.

About queues. When I was a school kid here in Sweden a long time ago, and we were queueing up for the school bus, we didn't stand in line waiting for the bus. Instead, we put our school bags in a neat queue. Then we could go play, and when the bus arrived, we lined up in the order our school bags were.

Coffee. That brings up a story my colleague told when he was flying with AA on a trip from the UK to somewhere in the US, back in the late nineties. He had a brit next to him when they were offered tea by the flight attendant. "Tea? You americans don't know anything about tea. But maybe some coffee?". So she apparently poured him some decaf, which is unheard of in Europe. He took a sip of it, threw his head back and shouted "BARBARIANS!". And decaf. It's like drinking alcohol free vodka. Like, seriously: What's the point?
In Sweden the point of decaf is to have something to drink after a meal so you dont feel like a social outcast (and some deserts really taste better with coffee, finding good decaf, thats the problem) and still can go to bed without vibrating after the daily minimum 3-5+cups of strong coffee. I would not want to see Swedish (or even worse Finnish) society try to function without coffey. If we ever become naugthy and start to do bad stuff all the international comunity have to do is to introduce a trade embargo on coffey and we would come crawling to the negotiation table after a few weeks..
@@borjesvensson8661 maybe I'm too far north in Sweden, but nobody drinks decaf where I live. I first stumbled upon the concept through american media. Honestly, what's the point??? Just drink something else if you don't want the caffeine! 😂

I have a collegue who is from the states. When his parents visited Sweden for the first time, they were out of sync sleepwise due to airtravel and woke up really early. So they made themselves breakfast without waking anyone else like 4-5 in the morning. When my collegue woke up his dad had downed his regular big pot of coffee, complementing the good coffee. Needless to say the dad was jumping around like a bunny on speed for the rest of the day, my collegue was afraid his dad would catch a heartattack from caffeinepoisoning. Lesson learned. :)

You're right about raspberries. Not only are they very popular among maggots and other crawly things, they tend to grow in unpleasant places full of shrubs and thorny things. Lingonberries are the easiest (with the rake), but blueberries are ok too. Easy to pick, and grow in nice places.

Fun fact about the swedish coffe; we too use to have terrible coffe, but instead of just drinking it anyway, like the rest of the world, we solved the problem. Many, many years ago, we sent people with amazingly good taste buds to colombia, to find, blend and grow the best coffe. Today we have special plantations that grows, roasts and quality check the "Swedish blend". Thats why we have the best coffe in the world.

You have just created a very good anti-touch protection.
Thanks! That's a great idea!
I managed to cut of a bit more than the tip of my toenail the other day so this will really come in handy.
Jag älskar Sverige och svenska! Im learning swedish right now as my fourth language. Greetings from Romania!😁
I would recommend you to learn Arabic instead, because Arabic is the future in Sweden.
Adrian, don't bother with this dipsh*t. He's delusional.

I live in Sweden since 4 months, originally I'm from Poland and thanks to you your video I've just realized we have all those things in Poland and it is super natural for us. Come to Poland guys! :)
Love how your videos literally gush out (for a lack of a better term) happiness and joy, keep it up giiirl 💖
As a sweede this was really nice watching! Happy you have found your happy place here in Sweden! Hope you are doing ok now during pandemic!!
Keep happy and safee
Sometimes some of us need to be reminded of the good things that you Expats see and that we here take for granted.
Thank you. ❤️💯

Another American in Sweden here! I totally agree !! Sometimes it is difficult to see how ridiculous something is (US taxes) until you experience a different way
This video will definitely trend. Swedes are addicted to this type of self bosting videos.
Sweden is a modern, democratic wellfare country
You even inspired me to appreciate my own country more :D Thank you !! I am so happy you feel at home !! Welcome to the family !
My grandfather had a saying: "Raspberry maggots just taste like raspberries!"
Thats true, until one survives and you feel butterflies but not in your tummy, but somewhere else.
Or: ”yay, free protein!”
@@patrikvonkohler8739 Well, not butterflies actually, the maggots in raspberries grow up to be beetles
About queues. When I was a school kid here in Sweden a long time ago, and we were queueing up for the school bus, we didn't stand in line waiting for the bus. Instead, we put our school bags in a neat queue. Then we could go play, and when the bus arrived, we lined up in the order our school bags were.
As a Swede I can confirm we got good coffee. I never find equal coffee when travelling abroad.
Thank you for this video! Very interesting for me as a German! Lot of things are similar to Germany, which I wouldn’t have thought of! Thanks for your insight :)
@@borjesvensson8661 Aj kan confirm, nobody drinker the decaf. Either they want to get high on caffeine or they dare to say no in Norrland.

I think the best is the holidays we get and the insurance provided by the state ♥ Sweden honestly loves people and offers the tools to have a balanced life! :)
Yes! Such a great list! I love that you included so many things that just make life more convenient, like bankID and taxes. Whenever I’m shopping in the states I’m always nervous about the total. Like why does it have to be that hard?😂
I enjoyed this video - it made me giggle 🤗 I am swedish living in the US for 20+ years. I totally agree with all your observations.
PS - yes the coffee is very very expensive in the US but I personally prefer the coffee in the US with all the varieties. My late Mom on the other hand had to bring coffee from Sweden since she could not stand the coffee here ☕

I am a Swede and I never use shoehorns. But my Afghan/Iranian girlfriend uses them all the time. She gave me a one so that she can use it when she is at my place.
If you don’t have a shoehorn I will either bring one or give you one. I can’t be your guest if I can’t put my shoes back on 😅

I think everyone becomes blind to their own country's quirks with time, and it's cool to have someone, without malice, look at it from a different perspective remind us about our quirks.
This is so interesting 😍 Didn’t even know these things doesn’t exist in the states??? Wtf??
My friend lived over ten years in Sweden and every time she came visiting back into Finland she were cursing why this and that aren´t in Sweden. Now when she moved back she curses some things what you have there and we don´t have in Finland. Smal things but when you don´t have it, it pisses you off 😄.
Most of those things are food items even tho 95% of the stuff in markets are the same.
This video makes me so happy. I’m glad that you like it here in Sweden! Det är kul att följa din vardag - det får mig att uppskatta saker jag ofta tar för givet annars. :)

Allemansrätten gillar jag mycket också =) bra video :)
I really appreciate your videos which are made with a lot of charm and put me in a good mood. Thousands thanks.😁
Greetings from Denmark
I only recently found your videos, but I enjoyed every one of them.
Even though Denmark and Sweden are obviously different countries, but with lots of similarities, it's both interesting to get an external view on the Nordic culture, but also learn more about our neighbors and I think you manage to do it in both an interesting and endearing way and I think you make things extra special :)
As a Dane I agree that the shoehorn thing is a bit over the top, it's nice to have one for fancy dress shoes, but for everyday foot wear, it's not really needed. :)
At 9:24 you have a mix of blueberries and raspberries. If you make jam or jelly from that you get "queens jam" or "queens jelly". "Drottningsylt" and "drottninggelé" in Swedish. Super for pancakes or cornflakes with milk.
As a swede I was always confused when Americans complained about filling taxes and how many pay others to do their taxes for them. I've since learned that your struggle is real lol
Omgggg I forgot to do my taxes!! shiiit Im late 😭
You should know how hard it is to get a new lisence. You just order it wirh bank id and colect it at Ica wirh in two days....
... not in the us
Love wathing your videos. So glad you are here in Sweden. 🇸🇪❤
It's kinda funny how some people lost it thinking you don't like queues. 😂
I can definitely relate to the filing taxes point. As someone who recently moved to the U.S. from Sweden, it was quite the shock to see how much more complex the tax filing process is here and having to consider paying a professional to help you hurts even more when you know how simple the process can/should be :-).
You seem like a cool person =) Welcome to Sweden!
always fun to hear what people think after moving to sweden
Maybe do a "10 things i did not realise was good in the states" next time you go there (feels like in 2040 or so rigth). Oh and its actually fun to hear about the stuff we do wierdly, some people just need to whine about anything. Just clap them on the head and move on.
Brilliant video, great work Meagan!
Shoehorns are and always will be one of the greatest invention of humankind ;)
The US taxes description was so amazing ! Got to rewind once !

Ahhh, the moccamaster, the most important household item in every swedish home!
Rasberries has usualy always some maggots. When i was kid and we were picking rasberries and after we came home we putted plastic wrap over the bucket so all the maggots comes out from the berries and try to escape out of the bucket so it was easy to take those maggots out and was much nicer to eat knowing that you don´t end up to eating maggots as well.
Please do a roastvid to us Swedes. We need it!
But your still wrong about the shoehorns.
Showing the price excluding VAT is actually a good thing. It makes people more aware on how much they are playing in taxes when they can see the real price of the products they are buying.
To be honest, i thought 90% of the “cool stuff” you mentioned were normal everywhere else too.
Also, fun fact, Blackberry in Swedish directly translates to bear berry.
I was just about to correct you.
So glad for your video ,made my day ,fun to read about foreigners reaktion to our country .
Random fact: did you know Bluetooth was invented in a city called Lund in Sweden? Maybe you can do a video reacting to Swedish inventions 🤔
And it is named after Harald Blåtand.
Bluetooth is not really an "invention" though. More of a circuit design and a (de facto) standard.
@@herrbonk3635 That's literally all modern inventions
@@eldafint Which means that they are no "inventions", merely patented products. They are no more inventions than say "Windows 10". True inventions are things like new ways to improve semiconductor manufacturing, discovering new pshysical mechanism for dense magnetic storage, new gene sequencing methods, new principles for cancer treatments, and so on. Things that may be awarded a Nobel prize.
@@herrbonk3635 That's like saying AIs can't be inventions because it's merely code or that a bicycle isn't an invention because it's merely a schematic
You're right about raspberries. Not only are they very popular among maggots and other crawly things, they tend to grow in unpleasant places full of shrubs and thorny things. Lingonberries are the easiest (with the rake), but blueberries are ok too. Easy to pick, and grow in nice places.
My daughter was at a birthday party yesterday. She stod right behind the birthday child with her present but then the kids automatically formed a line to give their presents and my daughter ended up last in the line!😭😅
They start young! 😂
Very unswedish of here not being in the middle of the cue
Fun fact about the swedish coffe; we too use to have terrible coffe, but instead of just drinking it anyway, like the rest of the world, we solved the problem. Many, many years ago, we sent people with amazingly good taste buds to colombia, to find, blend and grow the best coffe. Today we have special plantations that grows, roasts and quality check the "Swedish blend". Thats why we have the best coffe in the world.
I promise you... you will love the shoehorn when you get old or are not as mobile anymore.
As an old man
You are so lucky being in Sweden (my dream!). Here in the U.S., it's now nuts over Covid. Only Sweden has managed this whole mess beautifully. The rest of the world should have learned from them but....didn't.
Yup, discovered the maggots at the end of a raspberry food frenzy as a kid, still traumatized
Extra protein 😄
Same experience. It has been relabeled as maskberry in my head ever since. (they get pricked by the bugs before they are ripened... so, yeah.)
I would be traumatized, too! 😭
You have to understand them though. Raspberries are so good!
Okay so... shoe horns... you’ll grow to love ’em. With that said; your sensitivity towards Swedish culture throughout your videos is so wonderful. And it really should counteract all those bitter Swedes feeling the need to comment as if you meant any disrespect to pipe down. They clearly didn’t pay attention so...if you ever find yourself around norrköping/linkōping and want a guide/to make a music collab, hit me up! That one point. Sweden has cool stuff, thats a video in it self. 90% is stuff that i could not imagine not being a thing everywhere.
And i get so mad that those big stainless sinks are unfashionable and people are throwing them out and installing worthless inset single kitchen sinks that unavoidably get filty as heck around the joint!
I totally agree! Everobody wants fancy wooden benches in the kitchen nowdays... it's totally worthless when coming to hygiene and tolerance for liquid.
