Madagascar: Home of vanilla production

Just under 80 per cent of the world’s natural vanilla comes from Madagascar. In the fertile Sava region in the northeast, over 80,000 households earn their living from growing and processing vanilla
Vanilla involves a great deal of work but does not always guarantee a secure income due to fluctuating prices on the market and extreme weather events.
GIZ works with its partners Symrise, Unilever Supply Chain and Save the Children to increase the income of vanilla farmers and improve living conditions in the villages. The collaboration is funded through the develoPPP programme that the GIZ implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
