  • I took the Sportyak/BIC 245 boat up to Fort Flagler to do some clamming and crabbing up there. It's my first time at this location so I'll be providing an overview of the park in this video. I'll show how the BIC performed out in the moderate condition of the Puget Sound up at this state park. A very stable platform also for dropping crab pots off as well as pulling up rings. This location is a fantastic spot for clamming and the Sportyak had no problem carrying gears to get to the clamming spot. Stay tuned for part 2 where I'll show how the Sportyak perform when pulling up crab pots.

I'm not familiar with that specific engine, but most engines I've dealt with you start at full choke then set it halfway during warmup.

Can your 2.5hp Suzuki displace the Whaly 500 that you have? I am thinking of getting a backup motor for my Whaly, but not sure if it can push it.

I'd probably go with a 6hp to be more efficient, but I'm sure the 2.5hp can move it since I've seen the whaly with electric motor attached. The challenge is how/where to mount the kicker since there's not enough room on the stern, let me know if you know a good solution for that!

I came across this searching for flagler clamming. That area that you were digging, did you have to use a boat to get there or could you access by land access as well? Also you indicated in the video a different type of shovel would have been better? Which type did you have in mind?

Check out the link in the description for the exact location. For shovel, I'd probably get a narrow head one that's easier to dig in rocky condition, potentially like a razor clam shovel, since the one I had was hard to dig deep into the rocks. Thanks for watching!
