Hello. Romanian here... so the salami biscuit has rum in it. Lots of sweets in Romania has rum in it. Even the kids chocolate ... so we don t even remember it s there... 😂
Though it's not actually rum, but rather what we call "rum essence," which is just about the taste, not the alcohol. Also, they probably also used coffee to make it, which is what might have sent her mind toward Kahlua.
Probably the Spiced Rum (made out of fermented sugar cane) it's not that popular since prohibition times in the west, specifically the United States. In Romania is still a pretty darn exotic flavor, and average romanian still love it (being kind of exotic - brought in from far away lands). During communist times, back in the early 80's, under a full dictatorship, in those empty shelves food stores (harsh times- people got monthly food rations) there was rum essence (probably made out of synthetic flavors) in small bottles on sale in the sweets shops. That's how meaningful is the rum in Romania
Dane, what you ate with mustard is not a sausage (I'm talking about MICI) , just an fyi, it is finger food here, mostly served on outdoors trips with mustard and the best ones are grilled not fried in a pan. Also, make sure you try out SARMALE with polenta, and my favorite - sheep pastrame (romanian - pastrama de oaie) with polenta. Hope you enjoy!
Omg 😂😂😂 that is so funny, skinless sausage 😂😂😂 it is interesting to see our food from a foreigner's point of view . Hope you had a great time. Nothing but love, guys. 😊😘
Guys, there is a big advantage in Romania that the fruits/veggies are natural. There are not injected and that's why the taste is so so good and authentic. I think what I miss the most from my home town (Bucharest) is the food haha. And also what, Stacey was eating at the beginning of the video, pufuleti, it s made with polenta and they are addictive. Once you start, you won't be able to stop :))
how'd you know? :) Not all of them are. In Romania some people are buying fresh fruits and veggies straight from the let's called them farmers. Not everyone buys them from the supermarket. Romania actually doesn't even need imported fruits and veggies because of our culture. We've got them NATURAL. So, inform yourself better. :) Cheers!
Unfortunately, almost all romanian farmers are using all kinds of things to enhance their produce. The days when you got all natural veggies and fruits from the market are long gone

I couldn't believe when I saw Stacey eating pufuleti.I live in USA and I can't find any decent romanian store to sell this:((
Datcu Cristiana I lived in a family from Romania that sell veggies and fruits and let me tell you, people who sell veggies and fruits have 2 places where they grow them. The ones that are natural (only for them/friends etc) and the spraied ones, witch they sell. Everyone I met who sells these say that they are injected. (you rarely see someone selling them natural) I hope you understood better.
The flavor that Stacey noticed when she had a bite of the chocolate biscuit salami was a rum essence flavor that we use in Romania in a lot of our sweets. It doesn’t have alcohol, but it has the licor vibe if you know what I mean, hahahaha! It also has raisins, cocoa, milk, butter, sugar and a bit of vanilla flavor.
The Endless Adventure it was awesome seeing both videos, different perspectives, different sections during the walks. Do more of these types of crossover videos.
Thanks for visiting my dear country. I appreciate your positive feedback and I hope that you will come back one day, you are very welcome. Have a lovely evening and take care.
That puffy snacks are also popular in Poland :D Mostly kids ate them, but yep, we have them too! :D I remeber eating them as a kid! :D And those sweet nuts shaped cookies and chocolate salami too (we called it "blok czekoladowy"). Those pastries looks familiar too...:D OMG! Theirs cuisine is so simmilar to ours! I'm soo surprised! It's great to see it! :D Glad you took this food trip and show it to us! :D Can't wait to see next videos from Bucharest! :D
Crazy how similar it is huh! Amazing day either way and great to remember our new Polish roots 🤘🏼

I have a polish friend, and when we talk about traditional foods in our countries I'm always surprised to see how similar with ours are. They're just named differently.
Not sure if you're still in Romania, but renting a car is the best way to experience the country. I hope you head into Transylvania. Ignore the touristy Bran Castle and visit the real Dracula castle at Cetatea Poenari - a fantastic experience and quite the climb! :)

Thanks for sharing this tip Luke. I'm romanian but to be honest I've never visited the castle in Cetatea Poenari. I'll have to fix this next time i'm going home:)
Alexandru Junior I am from Manchester,England I am looking at everything Romanian I have a friend living in Lasi and I am planning to visit.Trying hard to learn the language. Many talented people in Romania my FB page is full of them.
Strong chance your guide might've told you by now but the Amaretto taste in that biscuit salami was from rum essence. It's a strong flavoring essence we use in a lot of deserts. Cheers and welcome to Romania :)
I’m happy to see Laura being your travel guide. I had the pleasure to met her when she was just starting this nice profession. Hope you enjoyed guys being in Romania 🇷🇴
Guys I am from the States and while I was staying in Romania I've met a lot of people from New Zealand which told me kind of the same thing about graffiti and unfortunately we have the same problem in US. Anyway I like your video and if you may come back to Romania check the castles because I was shocked to see how much history this country have. I know is a lot of construction going on there but the country is very under rated because from what I know Romanians are not much into showing off but once you there are very hospitable by nature. Thanks for the video
Glad you enjoyed the video :) Sad that we didnt get to explore too deep into Romania but what a great country! Next time we will - thanks for watching and commenting
Yes, the graffiti is just a darn shame, not just in Romania or the U.S, but anywhere in the world! I just don't get what people that do graffiti, think, while they're at it! =-/
8:07 Hahaha, the girl was right, she was tasting rum (to play fair, could be rum extract, but is cheaper and tastier to use plain rum), is one of the key ingredients for the taste, the ladies were wrongly blaming the raisins :D
Hey guys! Great video! That is summer pickled cabbage. It is put outside in the heat and the sun in water and salt and some spices. The winter one is a little different in way of taste and texture and is pickled in the cold. We do that with a lot of vegetables and fruits. The mici (the minced meat stuff) are a local dish, very similar in aspect with kebab, but more similar in taste to the sausages. The meat is strongly spiced and matured. The meat is kneaded as bread dough and is ready when it has the same texture. For the sweets where you feel the alcohol is from the rom spice we use. It is widely used in home backed sweets. You will find that romanian sweets are not that sweet. And the more interesting fact is that we use a lot of fruits in sweets and vegetables as well, like cabbage or hot peppers.
I love food tours. This is how I gained 10 kilos. I lived in France for a couple of months, so everyday was a food tour day. You should try stuffed cabbage rolls and polenta (sarmale cu mămăligă). I think it's our most traditional food.
omg you passed right by my college!! (foreign languages & lits), and the "big tree" restaurant is where me and most of my classmates would catch a bite to eat and a lemonade before class or an exam... and the butcher shop u had the skinless sausages and the "desert salami" is where we would frequently get coffee or sandwiches!! i'm so glad you enjoyed these places and our food!!
When i went to romania the first thing i tasted was something called "sarmale" and it is now my favorite food😘😘by the way you just have to love romainan "cremsnit" its good😋😋
OMG! you got me at the end with those Eclairs tell me you had some. worth going to Bucharest just for those eclairs!! putting that place on my bucket list.
Yay - The Endless Adventure! I discovered your channel through one of their vlogs. It hasn't taken you guys long to start properly experiencing Romania. The food looked really tasty and wholesome and (as some comments have observed) one or two things seem quite similar to Polish food. I get the impression that Romanian food includes plenty of garlic - good as far as I'm concerned because I like the way it flavours food (even if it is a bit anti-social) and it is really good for you in terms of cleansing your system. Great vlog as always!
We're glad you found us, Rex. Always appreciate your comments and thoughts on what we get up to and share. The food was very similar to Poland actually, surprising because a few of the things we ate we didnt actually see in Poland but a couple of comments suggest they were there but we never found them.
Thank you for visiting and liked Romania, my lovely country! Please visit Brasov, Dracula's Castle, Bucovina, Maramures and all regions, you will discover the beauties of Romania. Best wishes for you people!
Happy you guys loved the food. If you get the chance go to the north of Romania, Maramureș, food there is out of this world and people are so welcoming. Even though I haven't lived in Romania for the past decade I'm lucky enough to live in a country that has lots of Romanian shops, so in case I miss something, which happens every week, I can buy it or cook it.
I'm part Romanian and never ever even took a look at what type of cuisine my family may have eaten. Now I know! Everything looked simple but delicious. Question: When you do the food tours on video do you sample everything or eat entire meals?
Yay - glad we could shed some light on the food then! Not just samples, we ate SO MUCH FOOD! You just share all the plates between each other normally.
that last patiserie that you went to is there since the 80s, mom and pop kind of business, many ppl know of it and eat there every day, all thou their products are all the same since then :D, great quality, it's fun that while u were eating the "cornulet cu rahat" which is the turckish delight cookie, the owner is sitting in the back :), you should have tried sarmale, which have a sour cabbage version for winter and grape leave version for summer, with pork or rice and spices if u'r fasting / are a vegetarian. there are also a ton of white cheese that you should have tried, but then, this cheese is better found in the mountains, direkt from the Shepherd/Cow herder. cool video, nice editing :) keep it up
I am so glad that you have enjoyed our country some people said is an underrated country i just don't think that .Good that you enjoyed our food starting with gusto , everyone is going to,, La Copac " i hope you tried one of our main dishes ,, sarmale " meat and rice rolled in cabbage , and btw i just love New Zealand too ,greeting from The Netherlands. You don't see too many new zealanders in our country...
:D Try sarmale (mince meat rolled in sour cabbage leaves with polenta), Boeuf salad, ciorbă (sour soup), and mici which you already did. These meals are Romania ;) 👍🏻👍🏻

It was really interesting to fallow your food adventure in my country.Us romanian love to cook and bake and we have a large variety of food and sweets😋
So happy to see you discovered the hidden gems of Bucharest! My friends took me to La Copac on my 2014 visit, I remembered it instantly, from the first footage I saw in your vlog. That is the Bucharest I know. :) The sausages with no casing are actually kebab. :p
Good video,I have become friends with a lot of Romanians over the last 18 /20 months love my food.Planning a visit to Lasi and Bucharest I have good friends in both places specially Lasi.Trying my best to learn the language as well.Hope you are all safe out there I was reading about the demonstrations there on the Internet.Governments need to look after people better it's the same here in England.🇹🇩🇹🇩👍👍
I would like to help you with the language If You want. My profile is for english-romanian-french-latin and ...yeah. (I a native speaker, of course ). We can be friends too. Insta: madalina_gabriela_dmg and Facebook: Mădălina Gabriela.
The bell pepper dip is also popular in the Balkans region as well, I think it’s called Avjar in the Balkans, I work with a lot of Macedonians, Serbians and Croatians plus my wife is Ashkenazi Jewish and it’s always somewhere in her house
Another great vid guys so refreshing to hear a travel blogger say biscuit lol we were hoping to get to Bucharest when we were in Prague but ran out of time - now I get to see what we missed out on 😆
Romanian here, if ever you get back to Romania do meet the sweet-side of things. We have quite a lot of French inspired deserts as we used to massively exchange culture between the 2 world wars with France. I would recommend the eclairs, mmmm As well do not miss out on Ciorba which comes in different types of favours: chicken, veal, bean, pork, tripe(quite traditional) . They are practically animal stock with veg and sometimes thin noodles. For second course I would recommend Bulz which is a ball of polenta stuffed with sheep matured cheese that should be roasted on wood fire. Most of our traditional second courses are pork based and come in the shape of stews, but then again you could try Sarmale which are marinated cabbage leaf rolls of minced pork and onion and a bit of rice. They go well with polenta can creme fraiche ;) Enjoy!
Your friend was right, the biscuit salami did taste like alcohol. That's because we like to use Rhum essence in a lot of our sweets but it has no alcohol in it, it's just the flavour.
We romanians like to make our own food daily, that is why we have such diversity. God gave us the gift of food making, that is how we show our hospitality
that biscuit salami has baking rum in it hence the alcoholic taste :) p.s really enjoying your romania vlogs :) i was born in Bucharest but moved to canada at 10 years of age, (30 years go) and i miss it dearly :( so nice to see pieces of my country in your videos
Hello, I'm a new subscriber who just stumbled across your channel, I guess because I'm subscribed to The Endless Adventure (I've been following them for a year or so now). I do like these food tour videos (with a beer or two added in), although I always feel hungry (I want cake now after seeing that big piece) :D
Haha you only see about 20% of the food we eat - the other 80% is calculated, nutritional and we go to the gym as well. It's probably the hardest thing of travel trying to be in shape at the same time.
Thats the cool thing about food tours, you get to try all the actual local stuff and then figure out what you what you like and order it in other places.. so yeah, we always hunt out the good stuff again!
9:08 That was not a "nut". They are called "nuci", or walnuts in English, and are pastries made into baked "walnut"-shaped halves, filled with a creamy rum (!) based filling, and stuck together. Yumm!
Guys sweets you're eating are very common also in Poland. From left homemade nuts: my auntie still has a special pan to make them. In the middle "tort" we make for every special events like birthdays but also Easter or Christmas, and on the right we call it "blok czekoladowy" I make it at least 2 a year. Maybe communism mixed up everything but I would not consider those deserts strictly Romanian. It's fun to watch you.
karambaw greetings do Rumunska, I didn't know you also have those sweets. Anyway, Polish cuisine and deserts are absolutely amazing, I highly recommend Poland for hungry travellers. Also for, let's say, thirsty travellers.
Omg we live in Devon, England but my friend is from Romania and we have a European food shop in our city center and she always buys the snack at 0:55 from there so I've tried them! Fun fact, if you lick them you can stick them together, apparently kids in Romania love to do that and make things out of it before eating it ha ha.
Of you are still in rumania I recomend you to look for paine cu mac or cozonac cu mac(poopy seed bread )it's delicious (idk if is a traditional rumanian sweet but you have to try it Another snack you could try is cubeti (fried bread cut in cubes with flavors )
Adunatura de retardati frate... ce sa le faci?? =-/ Evident ca-i duce capu' atat cat stiu... cata engleza au invatat si ei la scoala... acesta le este nivelul!
Btw, great stuff from you showing us the architecture of Bucharest! Anyways, just to know: in Romania you will get very fat. We are top meat consumers, but anything else than fish. Fish one of the lowest in Europe unfortunately... Plus a lot of desserts!
Epic day eating amazing food and hanging with friends - hope you enjoyed!

yes us romanians do seem to like rum in our deserts: the 'national' chocolate bar is made with rum also

You just share all the plates between each other normally.
that last patiserie that you went to is there since the 80s, mom and pop kind of business, many ppl know of it and eat there every day, all thou their products are all the same since then :D, great quality, it's fun that while u were eating the "cornulet cu rahat" which is the turckish delight cookie, the owner is sitting in the back :), you should have tried sarmale, which have a sour cabbage version for winter and grape leave version for summer, with pork or rice and spices if u'r fasting / are a vegetarian. there are also a ton of white cheese that you should have tried, but then, this cheese is better found in the mountains, direkt from the Shepherd/Cow herder. cool video, nice editing :) keep it up
i kind of grew up in romania and this is making me nostalgic
The biscuit salami usually has rum or rum essence in it. ;)
The sausages with no casing are actually kebab. :p
Thank you for making our country popular! You must go to the countryside, that's another life! Have fun!
I am glad that you are not mad seeing the most bad roads you have ever seen in your life.
Thanks John - enjoy your trip!

im so proud of my country rn,reallly glad u liked it :)
The bell pepper dip is also popular in the Balkans region as well, I think it’s called Avjar in the Balkans, I work with a lot of Macedonians, Serbians and Croatians plus my wife is Ashkenazi Jewish and it’s always somewhere in her house
In Romania they call it also "zacusca"
I think the Polish also call it zacusca.
Another great vid guys so refreshing to hear a travel blogger say biscuit lol we were hoping to get to Bucharest when we were in Prague but ran out of time - now I get to see what we missed out on 😆
Daneger and Stacey it just makes me realise how many travel bloggers are from the USA 😆
So true!! Let's hope we become like the cool 'foreign people' on TH-cam then haha
Thancks for this amazing video 👍
Of curse yes is' Very good ROMÂNIA FOOD👍🇹🇩✌️
I'M from România ❗
Romanian here, if ever you get back to Romania do meet the sweet-side of things. We have quite a lot of French inspired deserts as we used to massively exchange culture between the 2 world wars with France. I would recommend the eclairs, mmmm
As well do not miss out on Ciorba which comes in different types of favours: chicken, veal, bean, pork, tripe(quite traditional) . They go well with polenta can creme fraiche ;)
Enjoy!
Salam de biscuiți contains rum and that gives the alcohol feeling :))
Your friend was right, the biscuit salami did taste like alcohol.
That's because we like to use Rhum essence in a lot of our sweets but it has no alcohol in it, it's just the flavour.
I'm glad you guys visited and liked my Country.😊
Found through The Endless Adventure. Subscribed. Going to do some viewing of your videos.
Hey Rebecca - amazing, thanks for coming over and checking us out. Hope you enjoy :)
The biscuit salami cake contains rum essence! That s why it tasted like alcohol. We love rum essence in a lot of stuff :D
We romanians like to make our own food daily, that is why we have such diversity. God gave us the gift of food making, that is how we show our hospitality
Another great video guys you two are so cute
Thank you ❤️
I thought the other countries have some of that stuff too....Your reactions showed me that this food is completly new for you😅
Like cine e ROMÂN
I am glad you enjoyed my native country "bROMANIA" guys! You got a new subscriber! Keep up the good work, amazing video.
Thanks mah BRomanian brother!
that biscuit salami has baking rum in it hence the alcoholic taste :) p.s really enjoying your romania vlogs :) i was born in Bucharest but moved to canada at 10 years of age, (30 years go) and i miss it dearly :( so nice to see pieces of my country in your videos
Very enjoyable. We just subscribed to your channel after seeing you on Endless Adventure!
Thanks Greg - happy you came and watched our version of the day as well. Hope you'll stick around and keep watching with us.
My mouth is watering! 😗😃 all those treats!💞👌👍👍👍
Amazing to have so many treats on a food tour as well!
Mititei and sarmali are two of my favorites.
sarmale*
thank you for that correction, have a Timisoara beer on me.
mici*
Florin, you already had a beer.
roastbeefdinner We always wanted to be part of the GGP (Global Grammar Police), but we always end up drinking beer, like Florin.
Romanian cuisine is the best from Europe! Greetings from Harghita, central of Romania.
Sorry for making you hungry! Hope you enjoyed. Allison and Eric are great aren't they, glad you found us ❤️
La Copac is translated at the tree .
Such a warm lovely couple you both are!!
Thank you!
Whoaaaaa.... Eric and Allison!!!!
So much fun hanging with them! They're great ❤️
I am glad you had a good experience in our country! :D Btw I love your vlogs!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you! Will do!
cheers for the guide
That sampled tune from Lionel Richie’s “Love Will Find a Way” though.
You guys gobble so much food and stay fit...I am so jealous! LoL
hell yeah! They are like in their 20 right? ;)
Haha you only see about 20% of the food we eat - the other 80% is calculated, nutritional and we go to the gym as well. It's probably the hardest thing of travel trying to be in shape at the same time.
When i saw the title i was like...'of course' :))
very nice vlog! everything looks appetizing. a lot of veggies (more than in pl cuisine). :)
Thanks 🙏🏼 Yup - we definitely found a lot more veggies!
It is good
All you need is good ingredients and a good cook
Hello !!im from România .i love my country..❤☝️
actually,in the sweet salami is rum
Great video! Got hungry watching it! :))
Sorry about the hunger haha
Love that you guys bring us around on food tours. Do you actually eat the same stuff again as you travel around Romania?
Thats the cool thing about food tours, you get to try all the actual local stuff and then figure out what you what you like and order it in other places.. so yeah, we always hunt out the good stuff again!
Sometimes in the Biscuit Salami people put Rum in the mixture ;)
9:08 That was not a "nut". They are called "nuci", or walnuts in English, and are pastries made into baked "walnut"-shaped halves, filled with a creamy rum (!) based filling, and stuck together. Yumm!
Stacey’s review after Allison’s review got me laughing so hard with the hmmm
Haha we just try and be as natural with our reviews as possible!
I think they said something along these lines, we have basically a mix of culinary influences from countries around us.
I saw and bought jezyky in our supermarket(auchan and mol petrol stations). Jezyky are the best biscuit/cookies.
Mihhai25 go to Profi and buy Michalki (chocolate candy) and Wawel candy if you can find them.
Haha gotta love food that can be a bit of a toy before you eat it 🤣
Of you are still in rumania I recomend you to look for paine cu mac or cozonac cu mac(poopy seed bread )it's delicious (idk if is a traditional rumanian sweet but you have to try it
Another snack you could try is cubeti (fried bread cut in cubes with flavors )
You seem really nice and I like the way this is edited. Subscribed! :)
Appreciate that, thank you!
The Endless Adventure sent me here. 😎
Cool! Hope you enjoyed 👍🏼

Adunatura de retardati frate... ce sa le faci?? =-/ Evident ca-i duce capu' atat cat stiu... cata engleza au invatat si ei la scoala... acesta le este nivelul!
Hello . You can go at dracula castle .
Actually the Salami Biscuit has some ROM essence, little to no alcohol but it gives that impression.
Its amaizing and actually all of it is fresh made by farmers without chemichals they get money in return for the food
"Salamul de biscuiti" aka "biscuits salami" can definitely contain ROM/RUM ESSENCE. It looks exactly like nuts, that's why we named them "nuci"!
Btw, great stuff from you showing us the architecture of Bucharest! Anyways, just to know: in Romania you will get very fat. We are top meat consumers, but anything else than fish. Fish one of the lowest in Europe unfortunately... Plus a lot of desserts!
you need to visit Maramures county from Romania it is at NV of Bucarest.
