Beautiful video! You two exude good vibes, and romania is a country I've always been intrested in historically (I'm a European history major lol) but the beauty shown here has me hooked, im definitely at least checking out more videos on the country, maybe go visit on my break! Also yes you are correct, romania is a huge mix of cultures historically speaking, as its also geographically not only central, but a sort of crossroads for Eurasia. The minor ethnic groups of the country I believe are germans, Hungarians, Ukrainians, and Roma (also known by the rude term gypsy.) Hope you guys enjoy/enjoyed the rest of your trip
Really glad to hear that you enjoyed the video! We had a wonderful time in many European countries this past summer but our hike in Transylvania easily stands out as the best experience. Hopefully you have an opportunity to experience it for yourself 😊

Such a lovely video, such a genuinely beautiful and enticing presentation of Romania. You've got me hooked. I'll have to go back to Romania and see what's new (or nice and old) :D
Some fragment of a childhood memory tells me that you open each drawer a bit and climb to the top of the bed like a ladder. 🤔 What an amazing journey!! ❤ I think it would be wonderful to rent a teeny car and just wander all over that area!!
Yes, a road trip is another great way to see Romania. As for getting onto the drawer beds, I think the ladder approach would be more feasible if the beds were in slightly better condition...they all seemed to be somewhat falling apart 😂
Ha ha you caught us! As soon as the camera is turned off, the hats go back on 😂 We are very mindful of sun protection. Yes, the little dogs are pretty impressive.
Nice i done this track by bike a couple of weeke before from Sighisoara - Biertan -Medias in two days also recording it on bike vlogs, you did it very well, of course the route is long but very beautiful and can't get bored
Great video. We love Huxley's little blue hat! We are thinking about going to Romania in 2024. We have a couple of questions about the hike: About how many hours did you walk each day on average, and how many hours was the longest day? Thanks!
Romania would be a great destination for you two -- we highly recommend it. The hike was usually 7 to 9 miles each day and I believe the longest day was probably 4 to 5 hours. If that sounds like a lot, there are opportunities to shorten up the mileage or even take a rest day.
Glad you enjoyed it! The landscapes are not the most spectacular in Romania, but the village experiences seem definitely most authentic. Glad you had the opportunity to enjoy home-cooked food too!
@@OurFreedomYears I'm glad you had the chance to see some beautiful mountain landscapes! My family and I just did some serious hiking on the Piatra Craiului mountain ridge (breathtaking, google it! but not dog-friendly, even if we did see some people with a little dog-I don't know how he managed)
Hello you four! We may do that trail at some point, thank you for the information. It seems like the shoes have changed since you did your packing video a while ago (even the re-make). You now have hiking boots (?) and Stephanie has more dressy shoes. Shoes are a bit of an issue...we also have been travelling for nearly two years and would love to see what stuff you ditched and what stuff you acquired. If not a whole post I would like to know what you are now wearing and how/why you came to that decision (if possible). Thank you!
Well spotted! We have indeed changed up our hiking gear. Our hiking boots needed to be replaced after many years of hard wear. Gillian went with a higher cut pair from Salomon (the Predict Hike Mid Gore Tex) and was very happy to have the extra ankle protection versus her previous pair. I went with the MQM 3 Mid Gore Tex from Merrell, which simply felt the best and most supportive when I tried them on in store. I'm also now wearing Outdoor Research hiking leggings. Finally, I added some flats from Allbirds for more of a dressy look yet still quite comfy for covering distance around town. Hope that helps!
Heyo. Thanks for the effort and also for making the place more known. It truly is an awesome place! Cuddos to you and all the best! P.S.: Be sure you have bear spray on you on those trails. ^_^
It turned out that the shepherd dogs were more of a danger than the bears! But we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this hike...it's a beautiful region. 😊
We had a wonderful time with our dogs and highly recommend this experience. However, we did encounter a lot of aggressive shepherd dogs so this is something to be aware of.
It seems like quite a luxury but it's actually a fairly standard option for this type of self-guided hike with a tour company. We were always thrilled when we arrived and our luggage was already there.
Great adventure, just beware of sheep dogs and bears. Have some pepper spray just in case. Take care in the wild Romania. PS: And put Via Transilvanica in the video title to better feed the TH-cam algorithm. :)

It's not a very smart idea to walk in the Romanian forests with those little ...dogs. Lots of bears, wolves and other wild animals haunt the place and even a fox would probably catch one like these…
the bears usually don't care for small dogs and the wolves are really, really rare - I never saw one in my whole life. The only thing to care of are the shepard's dogs, when you pass a flock of sheep or a "stâna" which is a farm building outside of a village.
