Impressive on several fronts. 1. Everyone was actually wearing a Santa outfit. 2. You found the only kid in the world that will smile, laugh and let you shake/bounce it for over 38 minutes without throwing a tantrum and/or crying. 3. You didn't break anything. 4. I have recently lost 22kg and it really got put into perspective how much I had actually lost when I recently purchased a 20kg bag of dog food..... To think I had that much extra weight hanging off my body is insane. Still have 21kg to lose to be at my goal, but I'm over halfway there!!!

I’ve been waiting for a fit human to do this exact thing for so long that I actually learned that pace doesn’t matter. As long as you’re doing it, you’re better than you were before. With that said, I started running at 310lbs. I’m now 290 and ran my fastest 5k a month ago at 34:44. The feeling of breaking the 35 mark was a big deal. When I first started, it was a struggle to even go 100meters. Keep to it everyone!

Very interesting video Mark, thank you. I'm 71 now, been following you for some time. I walk 11km three times a week, don't jog, surgeon's advice after acetabular fracture (hip socket fracture) 6 years ago. My target time is 1hr 50 minutes, best so far 1hr 54 and seconds, but plenty of thinking time. Today I was thinking about your video with the race walker and tried it out, with a less flamboyant style for 50 metres. Now I have two different targets.....get to 500metres with my version of 'race walking' whilst on a quest to reach 95kg which will be a loss of 10kg. From there I'll see what happens. Seasonal greetings from Thailand to you and yours.

Weight on the scale is 298 lbs this morning. Thanks for making these videos, Mark; they are a godsend. I've been struggling with obesity my whole life: swinging dozens or hundreds of pounds. I have known what it takes to stay in shape for 10 years, but either a lack of courage or a lack of self worth has always seen me back in the Mcdonalds drive through ignoring this life ruining, and eventually fatal, problem of my own health. I've cobbled together a modest, but consistent and reasonably paced fitness and nutrition plan, and I'm tracking everything by pen and paper. I look forward to watching more of your videos this December at a much more reasonable 215-200 lbs.

Amazing Mark 👏 just a note from a PT to anyone reading. If you're overweight and find you joints hurt like hell when running, its because the force on your knees is a lot more than you think, due to your excess body weight. Instead of giving up, walk - but also consider swimming or aqua workouts. Getting into water takes the pressure off your joints and allows you to go harder, safely. Lose a little weight this way and then get running again with less impact on your knees.
Just an option to keep you going, where there is a will....

I'm about 40 lb overweight because of a break and running. My goal is to get back to my regular weight at 160. I'm a 5 ft 10 Grandma. But I don't like where I am right now. So watching you run with the extra weight makes me understand a little bit better about why I'm still kind of slow. So I'm on my journey to lose 40 lb and maybe make a PR at my next half marathon.

This was very informative. I recently started school and after one semester put on a good bit of fat. Nothing crazy but immediately before school I was a personal trainer, marine officer candidate who could run 3-5 miles without stopping. But that’s gone down to barely 1.5, I constantly feel hot which is new, and when I run, my ankles and hips take a lot more pressure than before. Now I know I just gotta get the fat off!

This is awesome. I was 262 lbs in 2018 and I'm 131 lbs now, which means I lost half my weight, but I didn't start running until less than a year ago. I just got back from a 3 km run, which is far as I usually go. I will probably never be "a runner" but I like to use short runs as a contributor to my fitness. (My main sport is calisthenics.) Your granddaughter is the cutest!

Entertaining as usual Mark, run looked pretty painful but your granddaughter's giggles made it funny, just wondered, have you done a sprint triathlon, I am sure you could encourage many people to have a go at what seems to be a fairly easy and enjoyable way into a different discipline. I am putting my toe in the water in '23, the Boundary Breeze sprint triathlon in Cheshire:)

Love your channel, Mark. I started running in mid-August. Two miles took me 29 minutes of walk-running. I was 101kg (6’3), no muscle mass to speak of. I was also battling a long standing alcohol addiction. Four months on, I’m 121 days sober, working out at the gym four times per week, down to 89kg, have a 24 minute ParkRun PB and ran my first ever 10k yesterday in 59 minutes. You’ve been a part of this. Thank you.

Nice work. Your size creates the same problem that I have. Your 10k time is a lot slower than your 5K time, even at your new light weight you are still heavier than most runners. I reckon you will be getting close to a 20 minute 5K before your 10k gets under 50 minutes. Be really interesting to see how your times develop. Also, should add - take a random hundred people, and most of them are not doing either of your times in 1 million years! Good stuff 👍🏼

@@MarkLewisfitness Thank you for a lovely reply, Mark. I reckon 83-85kg is where I want to be, but with everything health/fitness/body composition related, there will be plateaus, ups and downs along the way. I'm here for it. I'm genuinely loving running and working out, and being sober. And that's something I never would've believed I'd write four months ago. I'll let you know when I break the 20 minute 5k barrier, and how my 10k looks in parallel... Thanks again for everything. Keep killing it, as the yoof say.

Thanks for the video. I am 210#, currently running a pretty consistent 43min 5k. I can't wait to drop more weight and hopefully run faster.

Lots of fun! Doing my first parkrun on the 25th, not convinced that I'll be strapping on a bunch of extra weight though.

Great video. I really feel for you on this challenge. I, unfortunately, put all my weight loss back on after pushing my knee too much. After four years of running, I find myself starting again.

Lucky to have a (relatively) local parkrun doing Christmas and New Years days so I am looking forward to knocking them off my challenges. But after a few months of being ill I doubt I'll hit a PB. Oh well - ho ho ho! 🎅

I weigh 243 and just did my first 5k slow recovery run at 38 minutes the other day. Felt good to know I am on the right track. Just need to keep the diet under control to shift the weight. Muscles and bones got a lot firmer last two months so working towards fat loss. I can see and feel the recomp so far. Realistically that is my fast pace over that distance as I dont have enough base.
Your run inspires me. Just need consistent weeks of around 30k running to maintain activity.

I spent about an hour trying to work out why the audio was good, but the video was blamed on the computer before I watched the other footage and realised I could see the cap was on!!!

I hover around 90kg (6"2') year round. 95kg feels like the staypuff man from Ghostbusters. At 85kg I'm Rocky at the end of an epic montage. Even 10kg is massive.
Love the straight talk as always.
