This was recorded the day after my sister died from ovarian cancer. I was only vaguely familiar with your work and first saw you (with Marc Cohn) 6 weeks after her death. When you sang this song in concert, I completely fell apart. It so deeply touched my heart. Thank you for the gift of music and its power to heal that you share with the world. ❤🎶❤️🩹
They were all raised in the same orphanage. Their parents abandoned them because they were blind and people used to abandon blind children in the old days. They grew up together and sang together. This is amazing grace to the tune of house of the rising sun and it's one of the best. Played it at my grandpas funeral.
Met these guys about a month ago, they were all super chill and cool guys. Ray (bass) was amazing and the guy I got to hang with the most. He gave me tips on bass, and just flat out chilled with me for a solid 10 minutes answering questions and getting to know me better. These guys for sure don’t remember me, because our exchange was only about 20 minutes long, but I know I’ll remember them for the rest of my days. God bless ✌️
@@brandonligon3068 A lot of pressure, but I guess that's what crazy musicians who believe in God aspire. When I play or even when I practice, I try to view it from the perspective that God is already watching, and he is the main audience. The stories about David being a musician touched me in the bible.
Some of these musicians have exceptional memories and make it a point of their career to serve their fans. So even though you may be one of the thousands of fans, don't be surprised if you touched them in the same way by being willing to ask for advice.
This is how you joyfully suffer for the Lord. It goes above and beyond most peoples comprehension. To have such a disability yet still overcome and deliver a powerful message to the world. Amen
I Have listened to these precious men for years and I want them to know I LOVE THEM!! Keep on singing and smiling for Jesus❤️ You all are truly an inspiration and blessing to me!!
The group was just in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and rocked the stage. It was the 100th birthday of M.S. This group was better than the two headliners of the show. Truly Amazing performers.
Was fortunate enough to catch the Blind Boys at Dollywood April21,'18. Though time has only left three of the originals, they put on a heck of a show for guys in their 80's. They sang this as well as a several tunes from their new album. Had the audience on their feet, and one even came down with his guide and roamed the aisles toward the end. Consummate performers, they have added one gentleman to the group, and after the performance, they were kind enough to meet the audience outside of the auditorium
I saw PB being led to his seat after a program on a video. He was losing his sight or had lost it.the video was before he came to the BB's permanently. People were saying PB without WNJ and the keynotes is like grits without eggs but he has found that group and friends and I pray they will continue to spread the good news of Jesus.
Beautifully sung ...amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me .I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see 👀 🎶 🙌🙌🙌💪❤💯
Quite often God touches my heart through music and not only during Sunday morning service! 🙌 That’s wonderful and I’m not ashamed of my tears. I’m almost 50 years old but it’s a joy for me that God touches my heart again and again.. 😇 Amazing GRACE how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me - Hallelujah! 🙌 🙏 😇
I've sung in churches and gospel programs most of my 68 years and, to be honest, I was bored singing Amazing Grace. I love this version. My church wouldn't be able to handle it, but it's refreshing for me.
The first time I heard The Blind Boys of Alabama I was So Happy for them the struggles they had God pushed them on to a Better life and that's what God will do They are Wonderful and Amazing Grace is Real ✌️❤️ to y'all
Their version of "Amazing Grace" is incredibly powerful, for three reasons: (1) The tune was an old Blues song, long before it was used for "House of the Rising Sun". (2) The singers embody the lyrics about being "blind, but now, I see". (3) The lyrics are a poem, written in 1773, by Rev. John Newton---a former slave ship captain, who not only fully recanted his egregious sins, but became a minister and the first abolitionist to state that slavery was inhumane.
I haven't done my research, but story has it that Newton was caught in a storm off of the South Carolina coast (hurricane?) and recognized his sins. It took him time to repent. There is an irony listening to the descendants of perhaps Newton's slave ship sing "Amazing Grace". Disturbingly I spent several years at a major university in the deep south who's bell tower would play "Amazing Grace", yet too few White Southerners understood its significance. As much as slavery is abhorrent to me, I appreciate the contributions African slaves made. In no small part they made the US a country worth living in.
Stunning! My son saw them eating at Cracker Barrell in Daytona several years ago. I was so excited to hear they were still traveling. I wish I'd been with him, or that he'd gone up and said, "Hey, my mom's a fan." He was too shy.
Amazing... Now that I'm watching this KEXP performance, I'm not completely certain, but it seems Seattle is where I first knew of these guys, busking out at Pike Place Market about 11 or so years ago. And here we are again, come full circle.
Thank you all for some of the greatest music eve heard! I saw you in Wenatchee, WA a couple of years back and loved every second of your concert with Marc Cohen. Sweet guitar, color coded to match your suit. Sounds creamy melon also.
I dated a girl in the 60s who shared her awesome voice with different churches almost every week and she did an even more awesome version, if that is possible. I later married the wrong woman whose jealousy caused her to destroy my Reel to Reel recording of her singing accompanied by a great pianist.
I remember these guys sang and performed at my church in NYC in the 80's.As a teenager there live performance was such a blessing. They sang there hearts out and had every child and adult on their feet.I still listen to their music.
I saw them (with Morgan Freeman, no less) in the Guthrie Theatre's production of Gospel at Colonus in 1987 when I was a freshman in high school. The production was a revelation and remains my favorite live theatre production, 35 years later. In the Oedipus death scene, The Blind Boys of Alabama wore all white suits, surrounded a white grand piano, and were lowered into the stage while singing. The powerful visual memory is seared in my brain.
To me where they were raised or any other thing doesn’t matter but their acknowledgment of God’s Amazing Grace on them is all that matters. Most people forget God when they become great from nothingness but these guys didn’t & that’s why I keep playing their music
I love this version of Amazing Grace ❤ I just found it today while looking for different versions of it. I'm facing the possibility of losing my 95 year old Grandma. She loves Amazing Grace.
Saw them in Williams Bay Wisconsin. They murdered that place. That wasn't a concert. That was friggin CHURCH. A few wasp families took off straight away. Total culture shock for some. My best friend and I met them, helped them to where they sign CDs. That was a night to remember.
I plan on having this played at my funeral service.

Wow I did not know that
For real?????
That's not accurate. The original members all went to the same school for the blind. They weren't abandoned by their parents.
They still do that in my country...
Beautiful.

Don't be surprised if you get to jam with them in heaven.

God lives through people like this.
I love that they did this to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. It works so well!
So I was right!
Yeah, pretty amazing.
Once lived in sin,Now by grace live in joy 😄
The tune was around long before "House of the Rising Sun".

Pain and despair from this world that led to Amazing grace
