Blake's dismissive attitude towards victims and survivors of intimate partner abuse is extremely infuriating! I was so excited to see this movie but I will not shell over my money to fund the Blake Lively/Ryan Reynolds household... I so wanted to support this because I am a child survivor of domestic abuse and also worked with families that survived DA for several years of my life. These women and families deserve so much more respect than Blake, the cast, and Colleen Hoover have given. The only person treating this issue with the sensitivity it deserves is Justin Baldoni and it is SOOO telling that the entire cast has excluded him. The whole part where she talks about toxic masculinity and the joke about her hitting him, when he cried, shows how little we understand the full scope of abuse. This movie is extremely important and a story that needs to be told. However, there's another side to DV that most ppl aren't ready to look at in our culture and this inverview reveals some of those holes.

    • @TamaraKane

Not really a joke about her hitting him. His implication was that we tend to act like guys aren't allowed to cry. He made a completely ironic and yet thoughtful comment about Blake hitting him because it's obvious that she actually had not and would not. She said it would be similar to toxic masculinity if she did something like that, which again, she obviously would not. Maybe the problem some people are having is that, for the actors, the thoughtful nuance and caring in their statements is obvious, and the commenters are less clear on irony and nuance.

The way Blake talks about this character that she’s playing is so transparent and obvious that she’s so privileged. She tries to talk about this message that her character is bigger than this DV experience in their life and it doesn’t defines them. But unfortunately, a lot of victims are really deeply impacted by their experience and they don’t have the resources and not let this experience to define them.

    • @funnyfoxbird

Even though DV survivors do have a life on the other side, the way she explains it downplays it tremendously. I’m not seeing this based on it’s marking not being rooted in any reality. I don’t think that one needs to experience it to approach these interviews with respect to victims, but damn girl can you not tap into any empathy? Do you not know any survivors that can communicate the up and down grief post DV. This feels like a fantasy movie.

This is why people need to be taught resilience. Modern society (and comments like this) tells you that you need to put your trust and money into "professionals" and if you cant do that youre screwed. instead of empowering you spiritually that you CAN control your response to situations... And working hard to not let yourself be defined by all the things that the world can throw at you as an excuse.

@@funnyfoxbird Did you watch the video? I did. I just watched it again, too. It's only a 4 minute interview, but she has multiple kind, empathetic, and unselfish quotes in that span of time. Here are some:
"Unfortunately we all know someone, and not just someone... many someones who have experienced this. And the beauty of this movie has been to see people, and see this movie alongside women, who haven't been through this (thank goodness) and who have said, "Woah. I fell in love, too, and now I realize there were red flags, but I maybe didn't see them as red flags, they were more fuschia, and now I know why."" - on how we can miss cues that might be leading us into a toxic situation.
"This story is told with such empathy that I think it can be healing, it can be a cautionary tale, and it can be inspiring. Colleen's work does that." - credit to the author for helping people.
"If anyone says that your work meant something to them, in addition to having that collective experience in a theater, where you can laugh, and cry, and feel together, what a blessing." - she clearly appreciates how making something that might help people has more weight than an every day movie experience.
"I cried in this movie, and I cry in real life, too. I'm just so proud of the work we ALL did making this movie. Everyone on screen, everyone off screen, it was such a collective effort. I love it so much." - she's acknowledging it's emotional without spoiling it. She credits all the people who worked as a team.
If you don't think those words are kind or aware, I don't know what you would find moving or kind.

    • @TamaraKane
      @TamaraKane หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Are you serious? She never once made fun of people who have experienced DV. She acknowledged the truth of these situations. Sometimes in a relationship, a partner can seem cute and endearing and lovable, even when they're pulling their partner into a toxic situation. Red flags CAN seem like fuschia, in other words subtle, because we tell ourselves that people make mistakes, or even that we might have imagined more anger than there was. That's also one element that can make DV so dangerous. It can catch a person off guard. And it can be something they don't realize is happening until they're stuck. I know because it happened to me. And talking about it this way could help others see the signs. Hopefully before it's too late.
It is shameful that people want to attack her for this. She has provided a better conversation that I am happy to have. I wish more people would try it. It might help.

Blake lively just plays herself and the fact she got a haircare line out of this movie and it's all abt 'her and her perfect husband' WHAT. THIS ISNT ABT U. And the only thing she said abt dv was "she's a woman of multitudes ur not just a victim and a survivor but also ..." like u do not understand how trauma and abuse works at all. Do you think she even understands DV? It sounds like she thinks it's a cute entanglement. It's actually a form of torture. Any option you take is lose-lose. It's incredibly stressful and upsetting. To be this lighthearted about a topic that's so deep, personal and traumatising is super weird. I'm thinking that it's not just that she's barely talked about it. It's that she doesn't know how to talk about it well at all. 🙁 Such a shame and actually quite disrespectful to those who have personal experience and have been affected.

She was in the movie because it gave her clout. I would be very surprised if it entered her mind at any point the gravity of the subject matter of the movie. It's all just pretend world for her, it's Blake's world, we're all just living in it. Main character energy 100%.

everything she says afterwards is completely negated by her initial snarky comment. an ACTOR who makes movies for PEOPLE being approached by those same people who made them RICH...how is that so incredulous? celebrities literally do nothing for "work" so how about giving some time and attention to the people who admire you, is that so much to ask? although, based on her responses, I'd spit on her before listening to her opinion.

I can tell this woman has never had it hard in her life. Even nepokids have gone through some hard times. She is so out of touch with people’s emotions. She was so focused on her “work” and being in the spotlight she failed to recognize the true message and meaning of the film. It was just a job for her and opportunity to shine. Not to mention she’s a horrible actor. What a shame they casted her of all the intelligent and talented actresses.

Hey Jake. We met in passing at a junket at some point a few years ago, and I am normally a big fan of your interviews, but after watching your follow-up segment to your Blake Lively interview, I’ve lost a lot of respect for you. I debated whether or not to post this, but Brendan’s post tonight gave me that final push.
I watched your junket interview before it had been circumvented by TikTokers’ conspiracy theories. My immediate reaction to your first question was “that was a weird question.” I assumed you had bungled the delivery of it, which is a very rare thing for you to do, but yeah, we’ve all done it.“How should someone approach you when they want to talk about this movie?” My response would have been “say hi then tell me what you want to tell me about the movie? 🤷‍♂” But yeah, we've all screwed up the delivery of an interview question. That’s not why I’m writing.
When I turned on your followup segment, I expected you to acknowledge the “fumble”, but no, you actually chastise Blake saying… “an actor who does press for a movie about such a serious topic…you gotta talk about it”. Jake, you’re asking the questions. A reporter who does interviews with actors for a movie about such a “serious topic”…you need to ASK about it. Not only did you not say “domestic violence” or “abuse” in your question, you struggled to even say the term in your followup segment.
How do you start an interview with Blake Lively where you want her talk about the domestic violence/abuse aspect of the film? Well, dont start off by framing it as a celebrity run-in (that’s not a serious topic), dont incorrectly refer to it by saying “given the themes” (domestic violence is not a theme, nor is it multiple), on a “deeply personal” level (if someone is telling you their thoughts on a movie, it is personal. That deeper level could be they also own a flower shop? Their name is Lily? They cried when “My Tears Ricochet” played? The possibilities are endless).
I still don’t know exactly what you were trying to ask. Regardless, its not on Blake’s shoulders to decipher what you were actually asking about in the convoluted word jumble. She could have decided you were asking about domestic violence. But don’t lecture her for not doing your work for you.
And then you said in the followup, “If you’re doing an interview about domestic violence, you know…you shouldn’t be looking for the that fun, funny viral moment”…dude, your second question..well not really a question….was how you “ugly cried in the movie theatre. Not a cute single tear, that silent gagging cry”. Was that sticking to the “serious topic” and not looking for the fun, funny viral moment?
I know our business is an opportunistic one, and the whole point of the followup segment was to promote the fact that “look my interview got views”, but the fact that you didn’t take the opportunity to own your own mistake, and instead lectured Blake with “guidance” that you didnt even follow yourself...Shameful, Jake. Not to mention that you’re doing this when we both know that this “finger pointing” at Blake started because Justin (and Sony) were trying to steer the conversation away from the fact that this movie, all about a woman finding her voice from underneath an controlling, dominant male should not have been directed by a male, let alone the actor who played that controlling male.
We all screw up, Jake. Blake Lively isn’t your scapegoat though.

No, younger fans look up to her and believe she'd know something about what she's doing a movie about. They would ask her basic questions. Many fans of hers wouldn't feel intimidated to address her, like they would the police. I'm the social worker.

I can’t believe they cut the main actor and director out of the promotions. They couldn’t keep it together a little longer? It’s such a bullying move to freeze him out like that. Blake seems like a real life mean girl and I’m not about it. She’s average pretty and an average actress; she needs to take stock and calm down about herself.
