Thanks for the review Kate. I was all set to buy the fabulous Honda Hornet then along comes Suzuki and upsets the apple cart! Anyway, 6 weeks later and I'm now 1200 miles into my GSX 8S. I found the extra kerbweight and longer wheelbase on the 8S gave it a more stable and planted feel over the Hornet and the bigger physical size gave a riding position that was better for me. The 8S also has more low-mid range oomph over the Hornet which is of more use to me than the higher revving Honda unit. Very subjective but I also prefer the looks of the 8S as well. Both cracking bikes and you can't really go wrong with either. Thanks again!
Great Video! Im about to get the 8S as my first bike got a nice offer from my local dealership 👍 Just have to finish my license over here in Germany :)
In the US, maybe more than in the rest of the world, this is a much-needed addition to Suzuki's lineup. Most of the US lineup are motorcycles that are at least 10-15 years old.
I think the 750-850cc parallel twins are a fantastic engine with great power delivery etc. Where the manufacturers let them down is the weight and pricing points. They treat them like an "entry level" beginner bike and they get awful heavy steel frames, rock hard seats, nasty bumpity cheap suspensions. Personally I think this class of bike should be 1000-2000 bucks more expensive and have a nice light alloy frame, and good suspension. Keep the 250-500 range as the nasty budget beginner bikes and make some really nice 800s. Not everybody want or needs a litre bike power and pricing.
In the USA, the only recent actually "newly designed" product from Suzuki was the GSX-R1000 with the VVT cams. Everything else is an evolution of older products, but that's not to say they do a poor job, or that they are the only company that does this. Actually the contrary.
I rode this back to back with the new hornet. Although this felt more planted.... the hornet made me smile.... this didn't. For me the Honda was miles more fun, plus the mechanicals were so much smoother and erm... better? Honda hornet all day long! I put a deposit on one the same day 😁👍 the suzuki is still a great and solid bike though great video as always. Lass 👌
Well, I love this bike, unfortunately I have not much to say today except that I have Just bought It 😅 this thursday i Will have my First ride.. so haaaapppyyyyyyy! Thanks, Kate!
As a former Suzuki owner of multiple GSXR's have many little Suzuki "S"es floating around my blood stream, but got to say first impressions is really good, sounds good, looks great and love the dash
Great fun , thanks .. Quite impressed with the bike but not enough to change my current Suzuki and the sound of its V Twin. Though i will be getting to the sit up and beg age soon.
The "whine" sound is the gears meshing between the crankshaft and the counter-rotating balancer shaft(s). That's the whistle people hear on triples. Some sports Vtwins that have a gear driven cam set make similar noises. It's meshing gears between the crankshaft and other shafts.
Thank you Kate. I always enjoy your commentary as you try each new bike, you are fun and informative and give the bikes a fair try and assessment. This Suzuki look to be a very good and usable ride without too much fuss or racing aspiration. Not everyone wants (or needs) a liter plus rocket ship after all. Go safe and have fun. :>)
Fun review and loved the countryside. Just returned from an English summer to southern hemisphere winter and missing the summer. I have ridden the Hornet and 8S but not long enough unfortunately. Love to hear you comparison of the two head to head.
Hi kate watched you opinion off the hornet but after testing it beck to back with the gsx 8s at thunder road bridge end, and looking to change my 2019 cb650r, the hornet was a disapointm3nt all top end , gutless low down and the vibs where intrusive , the gsx is what i went for, very happy good bike to ride and the modes do work , only down side is the cost of tge 1st service £209 for a oil change and kick the tyres not good, 1st service should like in the old days be free as i think its part of tgebike safety, love your blogs
A good first ride there kate, i like the look of this bike and think suzuki are onto a winner with it, my only criticisms are i dont get why they put power modes on bikes with this sort of power as lets be honest it will be put in top power mode and left there. I would rather see just the one mode and put that money into adjustable suspension or a cheaper price
As a 52 year beginner, I am still hesitate betwen the SV650 and the 8S as my first bike!? Do you think the 8S iw beginner friendly!? Excellent video, thanx and regards from far away Serbia 🇷🇸✌️
Just picked a blue one up 2 days ago. I like it a lot. My only real complains are that it gets buzzy at highway speeds. More vibration in the pegs then I expected. Maybe just a little swap to ones with a rubber insert and I felt it could use a little more top end. Guess I will end up using A mode a lot. It is comfortable. Drove it over 300 miles just to get back home.
I tried one and I found it to be a bit "nervous" on the road. Maybe stiffen up the rear suspension would help. Otherwise the brakes are good, the engine/transmission is really good!
@@UsernameKate Just been out with the wife and we ended up hiding under trees from rain in West Sussex. I'm with you there. I could do 2-3 weex of autumn I suppose.

Great first up ride & review. It’s my favourite so much I’m waiting on mine to arrive in Aus. Prices here are fairly close to the Honda but this looks so much better. It’s all personal to each other. But this has real world torque compared to wringing the neck of the engine to have fun.
Test rode one and did 63 miles, on A and B roads. Great instant response for overtaking. I found the seat really comfortable and reckon I could have ridden it all day, but then again I do a lot of cycling so motorcycle saddles are armchairs in comparison. My only issues with the bike are: It could be a bit lighter; it followed lines in the road a lot (probably just the tyres, but I also reckon the rear is wider than it need be); it was a bit buzzier than I thought at higher revs. Also, and this would apply to all naked bikes I guess, why are they so naked - it's not slow and could do with a small bikini fairing or flyscreen. But fairly sure I will buy one this summer.
Wot..., a long ride tomorrow?? This was a long one today..., from yours down to Suzuki UK then back round will's muvvers through the Cotswolds to Bolton, at least you missed the Brummy congestions that way. This is probably a good video for my daughter, she has her eye on an 8S. I can't say i've ever seen one up close, well not consciously, at car parks or meet-ups, but I do find them appealing. Especially in white (but without the blue wheels). I can now hear you saying, "i'd rather have a black one" Good first impressions review and interestingly presented, as you usually do. I bought a hornet mainly because its a lot cheaper than the GSX-8S and its a brillant little bike but think the Suzuki is probably better looking. Would be interested to see which is the better seller as my local dealer has these in stock but there's a wait on the Hornet despite it being on sale longer🤔

Kate, re the comfort, or lack of, have you experimented on any bikes with dropping the almost universal 36psi front and 42psi rear tyre pressures ? I've just lost 7 lbs in weight after a nasty incident when I got a garlic clove jammed sideways in my throat, which I had to have an hour and a half operation to get removed. I only weigh 9 stone now in jeans and a T shirt and feel to be getting a much plusher ride with 33 front and 39 rear cold tyre pressures. You can't be very heavy either and there's no way either your or I need tyres set to the same as a chap weighing 15 or 16 stone.
Hey Michael! I mean, you're not wrong! I just don't bother changing the pressure, I just run the press bikes as they come because they're usually comfy enough 😊
