    As much as I love the “cloche isn’t big enough for the reveal” bit in every one of these does anyone else want them to get a comedically massive cloche just one time??

      Believe me I’ve been trying that tactic for nearly 21 years now and unfortunately it doesn’t work 😂😂 I can ignore the portion of my plate with the weird healthy stuff for as long as I want I promise you they don’t magically disappear unless you’re a young child eating with your grandparents because they wanna give you dessert 😂 I knew early on my grandad was a legend when he’d clear my plate in minutes when mum went to the bathroom and sit there trying to convince her I’d eaten it all myself while I was elbow deep in a yoghurt 😂

    I would love to see two normals each get a DIY food kit but you take away the instructions and labels and see who ends up closer to intended final product! Bonus points if the recipe isn’t for something straightforward like spaghetti bolognese but instead something like “Summertime Goddess Pasta Adventure”

    • @mr.yawnie
      @mr.yawnie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      While that would be funny, it could be rude towards the supplier, as there would be a risk of messing up the dish and therefore not highlighting the quality ingredients and a specific recipe the supplier intended. One has to keep in mind the suppliers of these kits are restaurants that have had to evolve their business plans due to pandemic reducing their sales. Could be done with store-bought DIY kits though.

    • @1sgirl1
      @1sgirl1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Jani Andsten Honestly for this idea I was thinking more of a big name kit supplier like BlueApron, HelloFresh, ect. But store bought also works! The idea only came to me bc last week I was actually just gifted a kit from my friend with no indication of what I was actually meant to be cooking. It was a fun challenge!

      SayIDidItTM It came out pretty good! It was supposed to be a Mediterranean style bulgar bowl, and I had to look up how to cook bulgar since I’ve never done it before. But other than that it was pretty forgiving and kinda meant to have everything tossed together! So I lucked out :)

    • @khaxjc1
      @khaxjc1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Akantia I hear you. And I apologize but its late and I was feeling passionate so what follows is a bit of a rant I typed up.
      I watch this series thinking " we figured out there are over two dozen restaurants within a couple miles of the center of our town plus two bakeries, and two grocery stores one of which is small and local and used to have a buffet in it! How come none of them have picked up something like this?" Especially cause our numbers were tremendously high for months and now come down and held at 25 reported cases a day for our county for a couple weeks, most places dont have outdoor seating, only one has a drive through unless you count mcdonalds, and it could be awesome!
      One place did a memorial day special with a family of five meal kit. They also had weekly quart of soup specials and every Thursday a meal you could pick up that came in a large tray for reheat that you could buy for 1-2 servings or the larger 3-4. The second they were allowed to open their patio they stopped and it makes me sad.
      Some places were even getting dozens of requests for such things but ignored them. I kept checking social media feeds to see what people were doing and how businesses were adjusting and the results were depressing.

      Ultimately, from what I hear, it's cause they're hot. In a hurry may have little or nothing to do with it and my memory is being faulty today.

    I used to work for Shoryu, their stuff is good! That kit has almost everything that you'd get in the actual restaurant for that specific ramen, too. It's missing a few bits and pieces, but hey that's what the restaurant is for! Definitely worth checking out if you have one nearby.

    I genuinely enjoy watching you boys get excited and happy with these DIY Food Kits. Aside from making us hungry because all 3 dishes are so appetizing, you also encourage a fun way for us to support our local restaurants. My only concern is the consumption of single-use plastics, and so recycling/re-using them must be emphasized in their packaging, and consumers do their part in keeping our surroundings clean while satisfying their cravings.

      From the fact that his previous rare appearances included a massive Deftones hat, I believe it was because he was embarrassed at the state of his hair due to not being able to have it cut because of lockdown. I'm glad to see he's since found a barber to rectify matters for him 😂

    I love these DIY kits and makes me want to see if any of my local restaurants are doing something like this because this is amazing.
    The price isn't much more that what you would pay for takeout anyways, and the fact that you can do it at home ensure you can have it hot and ready anytime you want. Ramen at 3 AM?! You betcha!
    Also, I do like the fact that you reheat them, so it adds to it more than just getting delivery.
    After these weird times have subsided, I really want this trend Food Kits to continue, because they are SO cool.

    Being from Philly:
    The roll is surprisingly legit, but you can tell it's not an amaroso. It is *really* damn close though, the toasting was *perfect*.
    Steak needs a thinner slice, meat should be older and left at room temp for an hour or two.... Add water halfway through the cook.
    Not really an option for you guys, but cheesesteaks are garbage until you're on a flattop or cast iron that's made at *least* 5000 steaks before the one you're eating. And that sucker's gotta be HOT.
    Cheese isn't whiz, nor is it the better quality white sauce from say dellasandro's... But somewhere inbetween is fine.
    You need to cheese the roll, press it to the meat, flip the whole kit n kaboodle with a spatula, then cheese atop.
    (most of us toss sliced American to the meat just after the water bottle, but whiz or prov-erican keeps the tourists happy)

    I'd love to see a movement of meal kits being an alternative to take away so that way if you know you want X food but for what ever reason they can't/don't want it now they can get it in kit form so that some meals that don't reheat well can still be enjoyed by more people. I do see the problem of increased times restaurant wide to do these kits on demand and/or not wanting or being able to prep them in advance so that would have to be addressed.

    I've always wanted to support local, and while I love this big city I'm in, the Canadian Economy just isn't friendly to really good small restaurants. Having come from that world, always crunching the numbers, someday hoping to open my own, there's one way and one way only to operate a restaurant out here and it's with a hope and a prayer.
    To accomplish that and be successful most chefs and restauranteurs water down their food, make it more broadly appealing by, usually, removing all character from it. I'm sorry to say, but every time I go to a restaurant with somebody here, I just think "My God, I'm paying $30 a plate for something I could get better done at a chain like Quesada, A&W, Panda Express," so those chains are where I choose to put my money. The interesting thing I've found too is, that this problem only exists in this province, which is one of the three that has an economy with an upward trajectory. I almost wonder if because in Montreal, in Toronto, especially in PEI, because the economy has been flat for decades they just throw caution to the wind and make the food they want to make, rather than trying to catch an economic wave by watering it down.
