Abandoned- 2 eerie old homes lost in overgrown scrub/abandoned 30 years/Stuff left/1 never had power

  • Hey explorers! I`ve been back out in the country for the last week getting some pretty wild old homes way out in the bush and paddocks and this one is no exception!
What an adventure it was to head out in to the overgrown scrub to find 2 old homes that have been forgotten and pretty much lost in the paddocks.
The roof of the first home was just visible from the far off highway which is what made me check it out via google maps and ear mark it for exploration! :-)
The area is farmland and once these homes had a long drive way leading out to them form the highway but as the contents inside the homes suggest they have not been occupied since about 1992.
The first home is definitely a late 1800`s build and never had electricity, and in my opinion would have last had some shearers or roustabouts staying in there although many decades ago.
It does seem to have had some more recent stuff stored there by someone.
The second home is right in the thick of the scrub and only just visible when you know where to look from. This second home is particularly eerie and also very serene. Seems to have maybe started of as a small hut/cottage and had add ons along the way.
It has a mix of interesting interiors and things left behind to suggest a type of minimalist hippy type set up although there was power to this one.
So come along for the adventure guys and thanks for watching! :-)

I'm sitting here watching this in Australia on a 38° day in my air conditioned house thinking..HOW DID THEY SURVIVE WITHOUT AIR CON!??? lol Australia is brutal in summer! it always amazes me how people handled it back then.

I kept looking for snakes... lol.. My family owned an old bush property in south east Vic which the family kept as a week end shack and my brother used to lay corrugated iron sheets all over the place and each time we returned he would collect snakes from under them and donate them to the Healsville sanctuary to milk the venom for anti vanine injections.

Here is a story; your country vids always make me reminiscent of my high school boyfriend, circa late 60's. He was/is a farmer. Well, he learned that Australia would give homestead land and pay transportation for farmers to move to Australia. We dreamed. Never happened, he stayed a farmer (became an extremely successful one) and I went off to be a hippie, live on a commune, and protest the Vietnam war/Nixon/etc.
Your explore of house number 2 and some of your other country explores always make me wonder if those people and places might have been us, given other choices. If that hardscrabble land and existence would have been our future. I feel such a connection to it. Big sigh. Moving on.
I love all your videos, country and city. You have made me fall in love with Australian architectural style - or should i say Adelaide style. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.

It's so funny seeing these old houses with the 'old' phones and 1970s furniture which I don't see as ancient until I realise that was 50 years ago (I am 55). The single beds in the first house, I had one of those as a young girl and sat my teddy in the shelf along with my Trixie Belden books.
Thanks so much for the memories and taking us on a great adventure.

I like the natural stone 'fence' (starts 1:58). Farmers would clear the soil of stones and rock while breaking ground for planting and pile them up on the perimeter of their fields, forming these low stone walls. Hard to believe ALL of those stones were pulled from the fields adjacent to it!

While I was watching the intro. my first thought was, "They look haunted." so when you said they gave you bad vibes I had to laugh out loud. You're very brave to go traipesing around that over/under growth when there's so much chance of spiders and snakes and god only knows what else (everything in Australia wants to kill you) is hiding in there.

The first one... such a humble if not poor house, with mismatched furniture, mismatched very thin wall and roof materials. Maybe it was a happy home once, with someone who tried to make it as pretty as possible with little touches here and there, like a couple of flower stickers, a few bright colours, a star pattern cut in a wall, some framed pictures... At 36:25 the framed sea landscape was so beautiful and unexpected, perhaps the only thing that could be rescued, together with a few 70's cups and dishes. Maybe this home was a pretty sight in spring with flowers and all the trees in bloom, birds chirping...

The opening of this has the makings of a good indie horror film; makes the place a character all its own. Inhospitable, even more so because it once was pleasant and homey.

love it, back out in the country and those wonderful old houses. That second house was really cool, it must have been pretty nice when it was livable. No bathroom? As an American I wonder if you could briefly explain in a future video about the rain water tanks, how they work and what they are used for. Thanks for the videos

    • @esp224
      @esp224 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

In Australia especially in the country areas houses were not hooked up to any mains water supply. Each house had its own rain water tanks where rainfall was collected by guttering around the roof of the house and sheds and funnelled into these rainwater holding tanks.Often this was the only washing and drinking water.Sometimes they were plumbed to the house and water was gravity fed to toilet and kitchen etc .In the very old places they only had a tap at the bottom and you filled buckets to use.Hope that is some help

Noticed the dry stone walling at the beginning of the video. Was trying to think back to whether I have ever seen it in one of your earlier videos, but I can't remember seeing it. Very British, especially in the north of England and into Scotland. Love the fact that the fireplace with a woodburner or stove is still standing in what's left of the kitchen in the first cottage. In the summer kitchen of the second cottage, I loved the art nouveau double mirror from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Wondering if that was a picture of the cottage on the wall to the right of the bay window? Really loved the old cupboard (made of plank wood) that the record player was sitting on top of. Behind 'the doorway from hell' and to the left, was an toddler's tricycle from around the 50s to the 70s. Lots to see, thanks. No doubt these will still be standing by the time the concrete boxes in the cities are crumbling and demolished!

Hi LWF :-) Yep have shown these stone walls up close in other videos for sure :-) Yes got some nice pics of that mirror too. I looked at that picture and I do not think it is the same dwelling. Spotted the trike in the shed too! Couple other sheds all over grown too could not get to. Thanks for watching again LWF :-)

First thing I thought of when you said about the water tanks and the locks on the doors was, someone was doing some gardening in there...lol, wouldn't be the first time I should think. I love these wild adventures and seeing the history. And trying to imagine what the people and their lives was like back in those days. My grandparents and family line were all farmers and lived the land back in those days. Thanks for documenting some of the history that most of us never get to see.

I liked seeing all the patches of the pink flowers. Here in Minnesota they are called Spider Lilies or Surprise Lilies. Since I’m not a spider fan I prefer to call them Surprise Lilies and it fits the flower better; in May green foliage grows up so fast, then it dies down. Later in August up come the green stalks almost overnite and each one will have 10 to 15 beautiful pink flowers on it! They are not a wild flower here in Minnesota, but once planted they will come up every year! Sorry, that’s probably more info than wanted😊. Thanks again for another interesting video👍🏻💖

I;m guessing at some point after being left vacant & abandoned, these two were used to store farmwork equipment. I'm impressed of how slow the natural decay of these homes are. Usually houses abandon around the 90's would almost decay entirely. Almost.
But this one definitely is more durable to decay. I would say by 2030 or 40, it would be gone entirely...or still standing.

The country "Adventures" are by far the best! Creeping through the bush reminded me of storm the lantern as kids, or just simply a chainsaw and a chase!! How self sufficient they were and off the grid pretty much. A simple life of waste not, want not. Something we can learn from those before us.

I wasn't there, of course, but I thought it not so much eerie as desolate - in a bit of a charming way. Both houses showed signs of loving touches to make a home-like feel (gacky '70s decor aside) -- note the cheerful yellow walls and the repeated arch designs on the one house, the naturalized blooms outside the other? I can imagine the whole area being alive once with the sounds of children and animals. Maybe grandparents in one house and children and grandchildren in the other?
A place that once vibrated with life is always so much stiller once it's silent and empty. I think that's what makes it feel kinda creepy.

I have a feeling the second place was used as a paid “meet the ladies” set up. Large areas for entertaining, cooking, only one room with 3 beds in it, woman’s magazines, put away from the road, but not to far away. Magazines in first place were tied up, like they had been brought to the houses to keep people entertained.
