As a Brit, sitting at home in the UK, it strikes me that a problem with US justice is that it is too closely linked with party politics. While no system is perfect, it is better when the judiciary is completely independent of the political. A big test for any democratic system is whether the same law applies to everyone. I think that I would argue that a sign of an undemocratic system is where powerful people appear immune from the laws that will be applied to an ordinary person.
Mad Queen Liz had a personal stake in placing Judge Nichols in a position to control the outcome of the first Johnny Depp trial. It wasn't because she had any opinion on Depp himself, nor was it even out of any interest she had in the schemes of anyone associated with Lucky Chap Studios (long suspected of being a clique of intelligence operators), but mostly because she was obsessed with sabotaging the Fantastic Beasts film series out of spite against Rowling, whom she had a deeply envious hatred for which was itself a secret to nobody. Mad Queen Liz's personal crusade caused the total loss in respect for the British judiciary process world-wide because it became clear that she was willing to side with a Murdoch-owned tabloid (even after the News of the World scandal) and employ a judge who was sleeping with the ex-wife of one of the litigants in order to get the desired outcome. Even with everything that has gone as horribly wrong in the United States as it all has, we are still light-years behind the UK in this downward spiral... but we are slowly catching up, and this is why I am hoping for an international nuclear beat-down that will exterminate the ruling classes from this festering planet. The judiciary is independent, but very slow moving. They should prosecute some of these "talking" laws that Trump constantly breaks.

As far as judges recusing themselves from cases where they might have a conflict of interests or financial interest in the case that hasn't worked out that way in our Supreme Court with Clarence Thomas. His wife is involved in one of these cases and he hasn't recused himself at all. There is less conflict of interest questions with this case that there will be with Any case the Supreme Court is asked to make a decision on.

Here's an idea. How about instead of trusting that Tre45on wont do the wrong thing before and during his trial, lets just pop him in solitary confinement for the duration? No contact with anyone but his attorney on a once a day basis, and a tray under the door at meal times.
