Samurai Breathwork for CO2 Tolerance | The Best Breathing Exercise You’ve Never Heard Of

  • This breathing exercise comes down for the Samurai of ancient Zen Buddhist Japan. In just 10 minutes daily, you can increase mental focus, emotional calm, and optimize your brain by increasing oxygen absorption. This is done through carbon dioxide desensitization, as popularized and taught currently by Buteyko Breathing, Oxygen Advantage, and the book Breath by James Nestor.
I originally learned this technique from David Deppeler. Check out my interview with him here: • Can CO2 Boost Immunity...

I find this to be the most difficult breathing technique for me. It will take a while before I'm comfortable with it. I will persevere ! Thank you, Nick.

I think it goes against our training a bit in qigong/yoga where more breath is always better. Can relate!

Love how the focus on the sensation of the breath on the finger helps to distract your mind from the challenge.

Thank you Nick, a lovely start to a new day. In my singing days I (and fellow singers) were taught to hold a tissue(Kleenex) a few inches from the face and to sing without moving it, control the breath!

I've just joined a choir after decades without really singing. Wonderful to know that this practice is one of the tools that will help ! Thank you , Linda.

Yes I had to switch hands and a couple of times take that deep breath. At 64 I really needed this and just in this time a mind became focus and clear. Thank Ya so much.

I just did this exercise as the meditation after the January 28th class. What a winner. On both counts. The class was great and doing this immediately after ? It all worked out so well together. Thank you, Nick.

Thanks for more great content! I found Ocean Breath (Ujjayi breath) to work great for this. I'm still baffled as to where my exhale goes during this technique but definitely softens the impact through the nose.

Hi Nick! I’ve been meaning to ask you a question about ads on your video. Do you make more money if I watch the whole ad? Also is there a time limit to the ad revenue? So will you make more money if I watch a 3 or 10 minute ad all the way through versus a 1 minute ad? If so I can try and time my routine so the whole thing will play 😉😄❤️

That’s so nice of you Brian! I honestly have no idea how it works, except that every one person that views a video gets me about 1% of 1 cent. So it would probably not be economical for you to worry about it 😂

Should this breath work be done only from a seated or still position? Or can it be done with some mindful walking or even exercise?
