    Thanks for another excellent video. I am 52 and the best skill I learned in life was how to learn and to keep an open mind. Growing up I learned to spot a bad teacher from a good one. You are a good teacher with decades of tried and tested experience. You will still be pumping iron long after these fly by influencers have fizzled out. Longevity in training always wins in the end.

    I'm 45 and every time I switched my narrow grip bench to wider than shoulder width, my shoulders get injured and my neck feels like trash. You are one of the few people on the internet that actually and correctly tell people to do what feels right for you. Subscribed and good luck to you and your channel.

    Your concepts are very sound. I have similar thoughts in my system which involves a balanced concept of strength-agility-speed-and power. Every athletic endeavor requires a different blend of these elements. After 40 years of doing this and trying new things, i still go back to what feels best for me. If it ain't broke, don't have nothing to fix.

    I did 28 reps with 225 in April, 2022. I should have stopped at about 20 reps though because the pegs on the squat rack were one too high and then I almost had the bar collapse on my left as I went to rerack and start falling down my back. I ended up having to jerk the left side of the bar up onto the piece, but it was digging into my shoulder blade into the bone. My ass/quads was too sore after that for 3-4 days. That was my third or fourth set too, so I definitely got carried away, but I was really an insane endurance athlete when I used to train. I have to say your workout program really reshaped the foundation of how I looked at training and opened my mind in so many ways which I embraced so much as my body started to grow and become exponentionally stronger. I would have never imagined myself going from having very little muscle mass at twenty to having well above average devolopment in almost each area of the body. And it was funny how, even before I got obsessed with leg training and size - people were already talking about how I would train legs all the time like that was the only area that I was primairly focused on growing. People were just going to say whatever because YOUR training program was what grew my ass to begin with. I took it too far when I started to venture outside of the original two day split. But either way, everybody thought there was something odd about me doing one legged barbell squat and other leg exercises three times a week. My legs outgrew everything else right away. It was the first muscle group to really adapt for me, and that was due to several years of training and muscle that was already devoloped. I've always loved to train legs, I just got to a point where I was so caught up with how I was being percieved that I lost connection with my own reality and body

    Your method on skullcrushers is top notch
    I found a subtle rock back on the eccentric takes the pressure from the elbows bending too much which causes bursitis then squeezing at the top as you reverse the movement really pumps blood in for sets of 20 reps alternating between unilateral and two dumbbells

  • @onewhitepony

    First 7 minutes into it and agree 100%. I guess my leg length and structure always limited squat depth. As low as I could go was ‘sitting in a chair’ depth and at that depth was a hassle. It was a struggle to get weight to go up or size from them. I decided to give up squatting and used presses and other machines after reading that Vince Gironda despised squats and refused to have a squat rack in his gym. He said it ‘gives a fat ass and you walk like a duck’ lol. Now I know why, squat depth. After finding your channel and started squatting again I went more partial, I could actually feel it and I went up in strength. Goes to show fear of doing something “wrong” might actually work against you! I want to work the muscle, not EVERYTHING else but targeted muscle 😅

    For people that need science studies for everything. The science backs that below 90' you work much more glutes then Quads. It's the same on leg press too.

    Jason, I have a curious question, at 17:40, in that triceps set, did you feel the burn, or did you hit failure before feeling the burn?

    • @NaturalGallantBodybuilding
      @NaturalGallantBodybuilding  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Depends on the weight. With the 30's I usually feel fatigue and failure, but with lighter weight then I feel a burn. Really depends on rep range.

    Squatted real low last Friday. Sudden low back pain (not spinal disc related) this Sunday morning - could it be due to the "ass to grass" style?

    • @onewhitepony
      @onewhitepony 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hope you recover fast. I’d say so.. like a comment I read once ‘you shouldn’t get a pump in your lower back trying to work legs’. For years they talked about the ‘butt wink’ thing and I never could go beyond the ‘sitting in the chair’ depth. I gave up squats for a long time because irritated knees..but I’ve been back on squat and weight shot up. Now I love em and feel better for going more partial

    • @JoNoP100
      @JoNoP100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I never listened to the whole ass to grass concept. I feel go down as far as you comfortable just feel a good stretch then go back up. Proper depth only really matters if you are competing in powerlifting. But even then their depth is just your hip crease has to be just below your knee. So ass to grass i think was made up by macho guys trying to be hardcore. Wont be hardcore when they break their back.

    • @bumblebower1529
      @bumblebower1529 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ass to grass way caused me to herniate my l5 disc and I was almost crippled at 17-18 couldn’t hardly walk for 7 months I’d never go ass to ass to grass again after that and it was with light weight to 225 just going for a 20 rep set to burn out my legs

    • @onewhitepony
      @onewhitepony 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bumblebower1529 damn. Glad it didn't mess you up worse. Squats is one movement to respect with 2nd being barbell bench. I'm all about doing what feels right regardless of what others say. Funny about 15 yrs ago acquaintance at gym said "look at him, he does partials on everything so weird..must work he's jacked" and sure enough this guy would do partials on everything and was stout. It does work. But I was so indoctrinated i didnt do it. Even pros, you watch footage of Jay cutler alot of his movements are partials. Looks like barely benched off chest lol

    I do think just slow them down a little and you will get moe out of ghe set. You are hurrying thrugh it just to get the set done. I have been working out for years finally quit huring through the set and i get s better pump even the next day. I did fast reps and they really don't do a lot except maintain.

    Most people do not even consider lever arms in a squat. Even when the sport that displays the very best squats use shoes that changes those lever arms. Can you blame them Jason? Bodybuilding is predominantly being promoted by liars through omission. Heck even our sports are named opposite of what they display. Powerlifting = moving mass as slow as it takes to completion. Doesn’t sound like power matters in that sport does it?

    Never take advice from someone who hasn't been where you want to be.
    Most these days that are still natural, take advice from guys on drugs and those guys with a PhD on drugs.
    Unfortunately these gearheads have never accomplished anything naturally and don't really know how to train naturally for best results.
    As you know I'm sure.
    The gear does the work for these guys.
