You are absolutely right starting the process very early. I am planning on going on a massive trip around the world in 2026, maybe even early 2027. I know I will have to either give up my home or sublet it for the time I am gone. So I started this summer selling things that are not crucial to live here comfortably while I am still here. This way I can recover some money that goes into the travel fund and also not have to panic at the end with dozens of items and end up just tossing everything (very bad and not sustainable!). So we are very much on the same journey right now and I enjoy your videos a lot. Keep em coming. Greetings from Canada!
Long before Marie Kondo showed up on the scene, there was Elaine St. James. She wrote “Simplify Your Life”, “Living the Simple Life”, “Inner Simplicity”, and “Simplify Your Work Life”. Her books were truly inspiring for me, and are what took me on the road to minimizing my belongings.
I think that minimalism is a change in mind set. Its realising that we don't need to have so many belongings just because its expected of us. Its moving away from consumerism and not buying so much. No matter how far along we are with decluttering etc we can still be minimalists if we have had that change of mind set. I think it came for me several years ago when I watched "The Minimalists" and several other youtube videos. Suddenly something changed in my mind. Why did I feel I needed all this furniture and kitchenware/dishes I wasnt using just because society says that is what you must have? I had always thought more stuff was better. Thats how I was raised. You must always want more right? But then I got a different perspective that actually having less stuff can be more beneficial. I also became fascinated by people who were extreme minimalists just living out of a suitcase of stuff! Although that is too little stuff for me, it gave me a new perspective and I started decluttering.
i have always been tidy even as a child i do have OCD but i have only been more minimal in my life for a few years now it gives me a calmer place to live also calms my ADHD mind :) x
I totally agree and me too 😊 my room was always immaculate as a child 😂 I couldn’t stand things to be out of place. It made my brain feel eratic. But calm when everything was as it should be 😊 🕊️ x
📦 I would love to see an updated count list video. I’m currently wanting to itemize my clothing and count what I have as well so this will be motivation. This video was great, thank you for sharing.
