I have learned more about Matlab in the past 59 minutes than I have in class in the past two semesters. Wow...

  • @Speed001

    6:43
9:45 a classic problem when making a program like Matlab
    11:08 Import/Upload
    11:40 Import tool 12:16
    13:07 13:36
    16:31 18:03
    18:27
    19:22 19:54
    20:14
    20:57 21:43 22:05
    23:10 23:33 24:34
    24:44 gen code=save graph template
25:17 25:30 25:57 *(So far this is just a really long way of doing the same templates you quickly do in Excel* but you have to:
    1. Properly format data in Excel (Format it in a new Excel file as XYZ without data above if you have a lot of rows) before importing it because you can't move/edit it,
    2. Import/Upload File (Hope it isn't too large or else it doesn't always work, if nothing happens it's too large. Again best you make a new Excel file to import.) And select columns/rows to import selected.
    3. then Plot tab it,
    4. edit plot format,
    5. then File>Generate Code while on the graph,
    6. then save the code as another MatLab code file,
7a. (Repeat step 2 AKA) Make a new Excel sheet from your new data, format it, then Upload, open file, select data you want, right-click>import selection. To use any other new data.
7b. then you can type the formula name and your new variable labels (with the properly formatted associated data in the worksheet if the MatLab code file is in your current folder)
26:42 can color using the variable associated with the other properly formated data table.
27:34 read the green text to learn.
    28:37 29:19
30:29 What to do with blank data from Excel 30:46 You can make a rule to replace with text or to exclude it.
31:43 Generate Function to get code with your rules (Excel must all have the same layout) to import Excel Data. Use to automate step 2.
33:00 _Single Purple Quote means literal text, not a variable_
    32:54 Automation of Step 2.
_33:53__ right-click>help on selection for formula explanation_
34:42 (The fewer rows in this example are due to his rule to exclude empty cells) Can select and plot data in the variable's table.
35:35 I guess tables are good for data (I'm still not sold on this over Excel)
_36:41__ Up Arrow, __36:47__ __37:07__ Tab is autocomplete when you start typing, like in Excel._
He did steps 7a and 7b again.
    37:50 What you've learned.
38:23 38:37 Try to predict data. Test predicted data by predicting data you have.
38:52 Split data using "Logical Indexing", (same type of indexing in Excel)
    39:10 Matrix Variable label(Row#,Column#) leads to> "Subscript Indexing" 39:19 39:29 Variable label([Row#,Column#],WholeColumn#) leads to> question 39:49
    then action
Index on a variable range. 40:05
    Variable Label (VL)
    40:24 "VL=a

Got here because of finding the comparison of excel from matlab. First few minutes of watching I download the file, then few minutes of watching I subscribed to the channel, then few more minutes I click like button and now I commented. Very well said and clear discussing the basic in matlab. You are a more help to teachers like us.

This is exactly the video that I needed. I've been working with huge data sets in Excel and my job finally bought me Matlab and I basically just need to know how to make the transition. You've done that and also shown me just how much more powerful of a tool this can be for my needs.

I feel this video has helped me to become slightly more familiar with MatLab.
I have an extensive background in Excel and basically no background in MatLab.
When I take a course on MatLab I'll at least have some idea of where some of the basic features are and a few syntax things.

Really Useful video. I hv a doubt : At time 26:55, why he used AvgRelHum variable as input for color code? How does that affects solratio data in Z scale? It looks like representation of relationship between 4 variables in 3D plot.

So when I don't have a predefined model, and my adj r square is low for most of the models I try, then how can I predict which model is the best one?

I would do this, except that my Excel file has all the variable names in the first column, not the first row. I tried saving a transposed version of the file that had all the variable names in the first row--and MATLAB did the idiotic thing of transposing my entire file so that once again, the variable names are in the first column. Very frustrating. I think I will stick with Excel for now.

how about lidar data. can matlab read it? how?

    • @rawalc
      @rawalc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Nur Shafinaz Yes it can. It depends on how your lidar hardware produces data. ASCII formats can be read using txtread, or fscanf. You may also be able to connect your hardware's output directly to a computer for live streaming. Check the Data Acquisition Toolbox: www.mathworks.com/products/daq/

    • @rawalc
      @rawalc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Nur Shafinaz Once the data is in, the coding really depends on what you're trying to do. Check out resources on www.mathworks.com to learn more about your use-case.
