In just 40 minutes, this video provides a comprehensive overview of a whole semester's course, delivered with clear and direct explanations. Unlike my professor, who becomes upset when students seek clarification, this video addresses all my concerns about regression. I am grateful to Justin for creating this video and many others, as they have been immensely helpful. May God bless you, Justin, and keep you safe. Sending my respect and love from Germany.

Dude, my econometrics teacher is the same, or should I say econometrics presenter. First 4 lessons, some 6-7 hours of sticking to repeating the book and not allowing questions has been entirely fruitless. This video is excellent though.

mid-60's lady here thrown into Stats doing an MSc in psychology and getting a bit of a shock as this is my first module! THANK YOU! So helpful. I was overwhelmed before this. Fantastic teaching. I teach maths to struggling learners and really appreciate great teaching like yours. Being an expert in a subject does not necessarily equal a great teacher. Great teachers need to understand they are teaching something to people that probably don't get it! Good luck with your teaching and any other pursuits! I am off to Australia next week for a long break, love it there. I will be sharing this with my online classmates.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:32 🎥 *The video aims to improve upon a previous popular regression tutorial, providing a comprehensive foundation for beginners within 40 minutes.*
04:43 📊 *Regression separates variation into explained and unexplained components, helping understand phenomena like ice cream sales based on factors like temperature and rainfall.*
06:46 📉 *Regression estimates coefficients (beta naught and beta one) to understand the linear relationship between variables and quantify the unexplained variation.*
08:23 📊 *Sample regression lines estimate relationships based on collected data, with hats denoting estimated values of coefficients.*
10:31 📈 *A sample regression line minimizes the sum of squared errors to best fit the data, known as Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression.*
16:02 🔄 *Sample regression lines are estimates of the true population regression, illustrating the challenge of accurately modeling real-world phenomena.*
19:00 📊 *Key regression terms include SSR (variance explained by regression), SSE (variance unexplained by regression), and SST (total variance), providing insights into data variance.*
21:05 🍦 *Regression analysis helps explain variations in data points, like high ice cream sales on particularly hot days.*
26:28 🔍 *R-squared measures the proportion of variation in the dependent variable explained by the independent variable.*
29:29 📊 *The minimum number of data points needed for regression is three to allow for error calculation.*
34:49 🧮 *Adjusted R-squared accounts for the number of variables in the model and provides a more reliable measure of goodness of fit.*

Regression seems like it's quantifying the philosophy of 'Gestalt' which basically says that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Science, statistics and mathematics radiate so much humility. This is evident in the regression equation which recognises that deviation from expectations is expected! But unexplained. And without this deviation, without error, the truth is incomplete. So, so beautiful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me (and a whole lot of other people) understand the beauty of marvelous tool. I'm going to go on a sharing-spree whenever someone tells me they don't understand regression.

25:43, SST=SSR+SSE has something to do with Ordinary Least Squares. The goal of OLS is to find the line that minimizes the sum of squared residuals which is the SSE in this video.
And yes, the detailed math proof of that equation is more detailed.

I think the formula at 37:34 would be clearer, if You used the notion of "noise to signal ratio" which is SSE/SST here. Then adj_R^2 is 1-NSR/(1-k/(n-1)). The modifier under NSR shows you to what extend the number of variables "exhaust" the size of data you have.
