  • Hey!
This is a simple DIY project for making internal knee pads for your work/tacticool pants. I tried out several pre-made ones on the market including 5.11's, Carhartt's, and an USM style set. They were all terrible and I found myself with this very easy and simple design.

Thanks bud, I sure appreciate the share. Save me some time , I had considered buying some but I wanted to try and make’em first. This is exactly what I’ll do with all my pairs of kolossus work pants ! I might even double it, got a bad knee! ✌️

My dude! I work in industrial plants that require FR (Fire Resistant) clothing. Well, they don't make FR pants with knee pad pockets. After watching your video, I decided to cut up some old jeans to make my own knee pad pockets with. Now I have 6 pairs of my favorite Carhartt FR pants that have internal knee pad slots. And the fatigue mat works great. So cheap and you get so many pairs out of it. Kneeling on steel grating, scaffolding, steel tanks, concrete, wood..my knees have never been happier at work. And after one day, the mat does start to mould to your knee for a perfect fit. Very much appreciated.

I appreciate the design of this, but will be trying to make my own pocket on existing (heavy) jeans or just sew a set into the jeans w/o a "pad pocket". I fabricate and repair boat canvas, and other heavy duty applications, and instead of having a huge table in an even bigger workroom, I have to lay everything out on my basement floor, which is covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting. I have blue knees already, so I will let you know what works for me, But the hourglass design is very helpful. Thanks!

Ohhh that could be pretty sweet. I've always had trouble you finding the right work pants in general. Let me know if it works out for you!

I found that for some reason nobody really makes an ideal knee pad insert. All reviews on the ready made ones are always conflicting as to how good they are. Had some from Tru-Spec too and even told them what I found bad about them and made some suggestions, but nothing new yet. Anyway I thought about making my own as well and will try your method and material. Thanks.

I would agree haha, oddly enough internal knee pads seem to be a very "personal" decision.
Yeah, give it a shot and let me know about any fine tuning you do that works!

How have these knee pads worked out for you ?

yes! I've noticed that I wear them allllll the freaking time. They can bulge in the pant so not great for your social occasions but very functional. I would recommend making 2 sets at the time. I use them so much that I probably go through 2-4 sets a year and its just more convenient to have them premade and slip them in as needed.
