In this video, I demonstrate the process I Used to take scrap leather from a welding jacket and use it to make durable built in knee pads for my work pants.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing - this is so helpful! New work pants aren’t cheap to begin with - and new ones with built-in knee pads are really expensive. I'm going to try your technique to repair and improve a pair of plain, no frills work pants. They developed a hole after just six months of use. Sourcing leather for the patch - ideally cheap or free - is going to be a bit of a challenge, though. I have an old pair of suede leather garden gloves that I may try taking apart and upcycling- hopefully, their palm will have enough suede to cover the knees.
I saw some what were called “briar pants” at cabelas. They were like a full chap but nylon. I’m going to try that with leather. Hobby lobby sells “leather remnants” and often they come with a lot of great piece for like $10. I could probably make 2 full leather jackets with the amount of material it’s cool.

super helpful, thanks a bunches!
Nice music
Not bad !!! Looks good
Do you need to remove the fabric from the knee of the pants? wouldn't it be more durable with the jean material underneath?
Since you're adding three new layers, I'm guessing it gets too bulky and potentially can be bumpy if you keep the old uneven scraps in there.
