    Hi m8. this isn't working for me for some reason. I used 128gb mlp hyperpie image, usb hdd via powered hub and used the Easy Hax script from the emulationstation menu. When I plugged the hdd into the pc there was only a handful of systems in the roms folder. I formatted the drive again and this time tried the script from the pc like in the video. The script looked like it ran ok but when I plugged the drive back into the pc there was no roms folder at all?! Help!

    I am trying to add an external WD 4TB drive to my Pi3. I am running Debian 8. Not sure if it's Jessie(?).I have had other external hd and usb drive show up and I was able to access the contents. Not so with this drive. Error msg is:
    Error mounting /dev/sda1 at /media/pi/9C33-6BBD: Command-line `mount -t "exfat" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,namecase=0,errors=remount-ro,umask=0077" "/dev/sda1" "/media/pi/9C33-6BBD"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: unknown filesystem type 'exfat'
    Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

  • @bENOFFICIALMASSIVE
    @bENOFFICIALMASSIVE 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got the earlier model of that 4tb hey back in around 2010. It came as a 2tb with the other 2tb mirrored for backup but u can change it easy to 4tb. But spewing I moved around alot years ago and now it just doesn't power on. There's no noticeable damage so I reckon it'd still work somehow. I can't even remember everything thats on it but anyway I should get it fixed cause it'd be perfect for this kinda thing. Having Wii, Gamecube, PS1, Dreamcast take up heaps too so I'm gonna def try get it fixed. Good to know about the non power ones too, cheers Drew!

    So, I am assuming when you first start, you'll need an SD card in the Pi in order to boot to Motion Blue, correct? Once you're done with everything, you'll be able to remove the card and boot the Pi with only the hard drive attached, correct?

    Immaculate cable management
    Good video too. Wondering though, could you use the pi without the external drive to play games? Like if I want to take the pi to a friends place could I bring the pi alone and it will read roms from the sd card. And then when I go home and plug the drive in it'll be a seamless transition?

    Why would you need 10,000s of games when you are probably only going to play max 500? And why an external hard drive? I bet that if you were to download a full set of roms for each system RetroPie supports (excluding PS1), they would only take up around 30GB. My question is, why would you waste a 500GB external hard drive on roms that only take up 30GB?

    • @jaxman682
      @jaxman682 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's 50 different systems from Retropie. going up to the nintendo wii, so yeah using pretty much the more "retro" titles you might get 30gb, might get more. The problem isn't necessarily the amount of games, it's more of the size of each game.So if you're trying to have the pi be a replacement for a PSX or PS2 you're going to need to use a larger hard drive since those had a standard of ~1gb size per game. Also it's about the choice. We all remember what it was like, having to pick what games we got (either you bought or had your parents buy if they even bought you games) so why only play games we remember or were interested in? Might as well have the 1,000 games to choose from so you can see what you like, and if you don't play something at least it's there as opposed to you wishing you had a way to add a couple more games that you'd want to try.

    • @paqman3d
      @paqman3d 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jax Man if you're getting a pi from 2018 to play PS2 and Wii games I hope you enjoy 1FPS.
      A HDD this big is overkill but an advantage of not having your games and saves magically vanish off an sd card is good. The downside is its still not any better protected on HDD either lol. Just more data to lose in one go lmao.
      I keep my saves separate on another card and my games are going on physical media with a dvd drive. But whatever works lol.

  • @wgblondel

    Hi! Thank you for this video :)

    • @drewtalks
      @drewtalks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ahhh good catch was thinking about my computer :) still I was worried that maybe slower than the micro sd

    • @wgblondel
      @wgblondel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ethernet port, the USB ports and the µSD all go through the USB 2.0 bus that is limited to a theoretical speed of 480Mbits/s (60MB/s). In practice you'll reach 20 to 40MB/s max, because of the CPU, encapsulation, etc... So even if you have a very very fast hard drive or µSD, you will be limited to 40MB/s.
      In this situation your hard disk is certainly faster than your µSD because of faster access time etc :)
