    Just installed one of these on my Ram Works great. A couple of small tips (nothing life changing).
    1. Use the written directions supplied with the kit. They are slightly different than the video. Mine was dated 9/25/2018 and the video here is from 2014.
    2. If you can, set up the nutsert tool the night before you plan to install. Set the nut too the correct spacing (3/4"), lay a bead of loctite and thread the nutsert on and snug it against the washer Let it set overnight. No need to wait an hour
    3. If you have a 10mm gearwrench, mark the nut of the nutsert tool on the side of it (I used whiteout) and use a gearwrench to tighten.

      Same problem here. They have revised the tailgate bracket since this video was made. The new design makes the piston sit farther back when in the closed position allowing the cable to become snagged. I gave up on mine and removed it. Very disappointed.

      I installed one of these on my 2016 Ram 2500 and four years later it still works fine. I am sure at some point you will have to replace the strut but for me these have worked fine. I have installed these on my last 6 Ram trucks from my 3500 Dually, two 2500 rams and three 1500 rams, I have never had one of these fail on me. I have been buying Ram trucks since 1996. I just traded in my 2016 Ram 2500 for a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic ecoDiesel and will be installing yet another DeeZee tailgate assist on this truck today.

    The parts that come with this kit are now different than what’s shown in the video. The instructions have changed as well. The new bracket that mounts to the tailgate positions the piston farther back when in the closed position allowing the tailgate cable to become lodged between the bedside and the piston making it nearly impossible to get the tailgate open. Very disappointed. I’d rather have the design shown in the video. Had one on my last truck (ford) and loved it. The one for my ram had to be taken off because it was creating more problems than it fixed. Very disappointed.

      @@Josef_R Good to know, I didn't even think about it lifting the tailgate off but I don't think that would realistically happen on my truck at least. It takes a good amount of force outward of the pivot to take mine off. I'm about to install one and if I don't like it I'd be willing to risk trying two. I'll report back if I do.

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mxfreaks The reason they fail is because the crushable insert fails and comes loose. My guess is because people aren't installing it correctly with the loctite provided and it doesn't seat properly. The loctite helps it go in straight. But when it works, it works, you don't need two.

    • @mxfreaks
      @mxfreaks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Josef_R I agree but also with two you would split the load on the nutsert so it would have 50% less weight on it which would make it to less likely to fail IMO.

    I just installed the DZ43301 on my 2016 Ram 1500 and it works great. One thing I noticed is that when closing the tailgate the cylinder hits the rubber tailgate stop/spacer making the tailgate bind just a little before latching. I moved the top ball mount as far toward the tailgate as it would allow and that helped some, but could be better. When I get some more time to work on it I may need to cut away a little clearance in that rubber stop/spacer to give the cylinder a place to rest into.

    • @Norros0
      @Norros0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you're supposed to remove the the rubber stop/spacer (step 7 in instructions). I believe it is no longer needed as the hard-straight cylinder should not contact the body, and it serves as a stopper for the cable.

    • @W3CRTinWV
      @W3CRTinWV 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Norros0 Thanks for taking the time for the reply Marcin. I installed it according to the video and the spacer was never removed. See it at 2:08 in the video. One thing worth noting, those rubber stoppers (one each side) are what keeps the tailgate centered on the back of the truck.

    • @coffeewithalexander
      @coffeewithalexander 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The current instructions say the rubber bumper piece needs to be removed. i wish i had known that before purchase - i watched several videos prior to purchase, and none mentioned that. The rubber piece helps keep the tailgate from rattling.
