Thanks for the tips with the rig and the backward saw blade. That helped a lot!

Congrats on your house build! It’s definitely a lot of work, but it has always been worth it for me. The soffit is not too complicated with a little direction. Take care!

Watch you videos all the time. I just made this jig and works almost perfect like yours. The only problem I has was the blade did not drop down fare enough to cut all the way through the soffit. I has to put a piece of floor protect board to raise it up slightly. It was about an 8th of an inch to short. Did not want to go buy a saw with a larger blade. Worked perfect after that.

Awesome! The cool thing about it is you can keep reusing that jig for years. I made mine about eight years ago if I remember correctly and it still works great. Thanks for watching and letting me know how your project is going!

@@TheExcellentLaborer 1` year later and still using the jig. It is still working pretty good. Unfortunately I forgot to put it up one day and it got rained on for a couple days. Probably going to have to rebuild it or replace a few parts of it. But as of right now still using it. Makes My work so much easier and faster.

Use PTFE or UHMW slippery plastic strips where saw runs. Also a straighter guide board on your left. But definitely a great jig.

I've watched several of your videos related to siding, soffit, and facia, but have not seen one dealing with my situation: I have a house built in 1976 with brick walls. The existing soffit and facial are weather damaged and I need to do some repair to them. The facia and a strip below the drip edge appear to have been cut from 1 X 6 pine (Facia is 3/4" X 4" and strip is 3/4" X 1-1/2") with 2 X 4 sub-facia.(1-1/2 X 3-1/2) The soffit is a fibre board type material 15-3/4" X 48". The Facia Covers the edges of the Soffit and the mating surface is caulked. Below the facia at the brick wall there is a 3/4" X 9-1/2" fibre board facing cap with a strip of the same material ripped to to 1-3/4" (3/4" X 1-3/4") supporting the facia. The roof Rafters are standard 2 X 4 just like the sub-facia. The Gables have the same fibre board siding as that on the top of the brick wall. I a trying to determine if it would be feasible install vinyl siding on the gables ends of the house. and remove the damaged materials and replace the soffit with vinyl and metal facia as you show in the new constructions in your videos?

How could I improve the soffit jig?

Gonna build this tomorrow because I ain't going to chance it messing up them $$$ vinyl soffit! Will use table saw to rabbet the 2x4 pieces of guides instead of how you did it. Heck, I'll even make the board out of plywood instead of OSB. Thanks for the idea, keep up the good work!

I just used 3/4 plywood put a 2 by 4 along the bottom and screwed another 2by4 vertical along the back side I then ripped a small piece of 2by2 to the front side. I then got 2 pieces of aluminum L channel used a square to put the left side on and put the other side the width of my saw. The last one I made lasted through 7 houses.
