Forgot about this great fight. Both these guys were favourites of mine back in the day. Never in a dull fight. Alli would win multiple belts today and Ramirez was anything but second tier. I have him down as an all time great. Thanks for another superb video Rich.
A fight that would be “Fight of the Year” today. Such fond memories…on a hot July Sunday in Philadelphia, I kept telling my mother to wait as she tried to get me to leave for a bbq at the grandparents. It was inevitable that the steady pressure of the heavy-fisted Ramirez would break through and overcome the energy and speed of Alli.
An interesting fight. I remember there used to be a lot of fights at this time that took place in France and were televised on American Networks. Simon Brown-Tyrone Trice a year later was also in France.
Terrence Alli was born in Mahaicony on the East Coast of Demerara and grew up in Linden a town up the Demerara River. He did not grow up or lived in Georgetown.
Hey Rich.A couple of beer's into it.Came across this.A bit late to the party. What a fighter Jose Luis Ramirez was.He never ducked anyone. For or against he was a great fighter. Much respect. 👍☺️🇦🇺
I remember reading about this fight in the boxing magazines at the time, glad I’ve now managed to watch it all thanks to you Rich. Alli was an entertaining skill full boxer but as you said Rich, really lacked a punch, you just need that at this level. Ramirez had a chin of steal, totally forgot he fought Chavez. Great piece of footage Rich, thanks again.🥊
Alli's biggest enemy was his own Inflated Ego. He tried to Psych Out boxers like other fighters starting with Cassius Clay, but he really wasn't very good at it. In fact, it made him a worse fighter. He had superior boxing skills that could have easily made him a Champ, but it was playing the Clown that finally turned him into a Chump. Thank You, Rich, for yet another Great boxing video !!!
@John.Flower.Productions look carefully. Sweet pea was running and flicking jabs the whole boring fight he fought. Ramirez was aggressor and countered. . He was the champ. You can't run a jab against a established fighter like Ramirez.
@jeremysipes44 Ramirez was told by Don king that corrupt promoter to throw the fight. Why did Don king not let Ramirez rematch rosario after the first fight. ALSO WHY DUD RAMIREZ FIGHT AND ACTUALLY BEAT ARGUELLO BUT SPLIT BAD DECISION. ARGUELLO KOD MANCINI. TELL ME WHATS UP RIGHT THERE?
@@tonycanaris1778 He was _boxing_ Ramirez; in other words, hitting and not getting hit. Ramirez's aggression was not being effective, so it really just scored as defense and ring-generalship for Whitaker. The days of _having to take the title from the Champion_ ended before we even born, certainly once the 10-point must system of judging started. If you want to watch aggressive fighting, check out: *ONE Friday Fights* The first 2 bouts are always MMA but after that, the actual fights begin.
Great fight-Terrence’s mistake was to not use his speed advantage and chose way too many times to stay inside the pocket where Ramirez had the superior in fighting. Made for an exciting fight but wrong strategy for Terrence.
Why am I not surprised that Pernell Whitaker lost a Controversial split decision against Ramirez?Pernell lost most of his fights that way - Robbed! Chavez & De La Hoya included. R.I.P. Sweetpea
For this product of 80s boxing, there will never be anything better than CBS’ duo of Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy.
Don't know why Clancy rocked the toup. Maybe he time-shared it with Cosell.
I agree great childhood memories and sounds
Gil Clancy was the BEST Commentator; the only guy who knew what he was talking about during a fight.
I heard Tim Ryan call a fight last year (can't remember the network). Gotta be honest, hearing his voice really hit me in the feels.

Feel for Terrence. Active in an era of Great Fighters
His best chance to become champ was his fight against harry arroyo
Terrence Ali was a real Terrier of a guy gutsy game and firery .
Ramirez was such a rock 🥊
An interesting fight. I remember there used to be a lot of fights at this time that took place in France and were televised on American Networks. Simon Brown-Tyrone Trice a year later was also in France.

I have to give to you. Very well put
This was a good scrap u can both fighters was in top shape 💯
Ramirez got a gift win vs Pernell Whitaker too.
You sure can pick them Rich, Thanks.
Sure thing, Joey.
Ramirez had such heavy hands for being so slow lol. Both tough fighters!

Ramirez record after retirement. 102 wins 82 kos 7 losses3 were robberies with arguello , rosario and mancini
Ah, Mancini dominated that fight. Not even close.Camacho and Whitaker made him look like an amateur.
His _robbery_ win over *Sweet P* has to cancel out that first fight with Rosario, which I remember him legitimately losing.

It seems Alli had never face a southpaw he kept neglecting the right hand
I don't remember this match, but the name Terrence Alli rings a bell. Thanks for posting.
Sure thing, Poops.
Send this to Canelo.....
Ramirez was a mentor of Chavez. You can see similar styles. I remember Pernell whitaker beating the crap , out of both and getting robbed.
