Love Bryce, saw him and Shadow of Intent on tour with Lorna Shore earlier this year. Keep shredding my dude! I run Meinl cymbals on my kit as well, great sounding stuff
Thats a LOT of stuffing in your bass drum.. no wonder it sounds so clicky. As a lover of bass, it bothers me that metal bands cut out so much of the power out of bass drums in favor of that clicky sound.
Thats because you're not hearing the actual sound of the kick drum at all. That click you're referring to is the sound of a kick trigger. It is a kick sample and you're not really hearing the natural kick. The point of a trigger is that it is much clearer and more accurate than a microphone, which makes it perfect for faster speeds. That's why the majority of metal drummers use triggers 🫶
I went to a SOI show and the triggers live are actually huge and clear, you feel it in your chest. You simply cannot have low end on a recording at that speed it will be a muddy mess that drowns out all the other instruments. I think the stuffing is to make the drum resonate less meaning the skin is less shaky and therefore triggers don't misfire.
@meinlcymbals I'm feeling great! Would love to try some meinl cymbals. I've just always been a Sabian guy. Unfortunately on youtube, you get guys that run their mouth.
Bryce is quickly becoming my favorite drummer.
