So happy to hear you are involved with your church. A thriving church is a family and to develop a set of friends who are also your sisters in Christ is the ultimate. So hoping I will one day be blessed with grandchildren. If that day comes, I wish to be called "Nana" as my grandmother and mother both went by those titles. Good luck with the costume! God Bless!
I was grandma but my first g'daughter couldn't say it. She said Gamma so thats what I am still 30 years later for all 5 of them. NO matter what you do , the costume will be amazing.. Just have fun..
I’m sure you’ll create a beautiful costume for your granddaughter- your plans sound amazing!! Good luck with it! I’m nervous of tiny babies, I find it much easier when they’re toddling and asking questions. I have a new great nephew on the way so I’m looking forward to meeting him early next year. Just finished a beautiful autumn top and a top and skirt in a knit fabric. They turned out really well - which I don’t often say! I’ll be keeping everything crossed for a successful sewing mission for you this weekend 🤞🤞
I too picked my grandmother name. I am “Oma” to my grand babies. It was a name (German ) I called my grandmothers. Easy to say, and unique in their world.
I tried to be Grammy to my only grandchild because I had a Grammy. He is on the spectrum and didn't speak clearly until he was about 5, at which time he gave me the name of Maggie. My name is Kathy so we don't know where the name came from but I love it because he's the only one who calls me that. I'm his Maggie. Good luck with the costume. I'm sure you'll nail it.
My Dad was Bepaw cause my kids couldnt say Grandpa. At first it upset him because my parents had moved out of state about the time his older girls started having kids and he didn't really feel he ever got to be Grandpa. Eventually he became okay with it because he realized he had been around enough to have a special name.
Hi Stephanie. I chose to be called Grandma as my sons called their grandma Nana plus I think Nana sounds older. I feel blessed to live close to my granddaughters. Today we looked after them so their Mum and Dad could go out as they only have one weekend day together. On Monday we will be looking after them as it is a public holiday here in New Zealand and both parents are working. Being a grandparent just makes me feel complete.
I picked MIMI because when I taught school I had a student that loved his MIMI so much that I wanted to be a MIMI. I have three grandboys! I love being MIMI. I too, love my church it's like seeing family every week. I volunteer at church and in other ways in my community. So much fun
Love your new t shirt. It would be a cool ‘70s vibe worn with the matching skirt to make a faux maxi dress with a chain link belt. That’s far out, man! 🤣 I’m Nana to my grandson, and my granddaughters were late teenagers when my daughter married their dad, so they call me G’ma Suzy. Don’t know what my great grandson will call me because he doesn’t talk yet. 😋 I, too, would have forgone the sewing time to spend it all with family. 🥰 Can’t wait to see your granddaughter’s Halloween dress. I bet it’s going to be awesome. 👏🏻 Then it will be time to get cracking on those doll clothes we talked about. 🤭 Don’t panic yet, but Christmas is right around the corner. 🎅🏻 🎄 🛷 ☃️ Hugs, Suzy
@@suzyprickett9759 Hi Suzy, I actually had the same idea on wearing the top and skirt as a dress…even down to a chain belt. Lol. Great minds! No matter what they call us, being a grandma is just the best!!! Hugs 🩵🩵🩵
Being a grandma is the absolute BEST! My grands wanted store bought Bluey Costumes this year but I still brought over these last week and we had a dinosaur party with Dino treasure hunt, Dino prizes and Dino chicken nuggets for dinner while their parents went out🦖
My grandma name is Granny. I picked it. I am Catholic too. Thank you for sharing your faith story. I am also a convert. I came into the church 11 years ago. I love the small church I attend and all of the friends I have made. I couldnt agree with you more. For anyone who is lonely out there. Go to a church and get involved. In no time you will have a whole community of friends.
I love hearing about your grandkids! Meme is my grandma name. I've been repairing and patching my hubby's work clothes, now that the warmer ones are being brought out. On my old machine. My Pfaff is ready to pick up at the repair place, and I'm so happy that it didn't need parts, as they're not available anymore for that model. I can't wait to see the pic of that costume. I'm sure it will be adorable!
I am a kindred spirit--not drawn to other people's babies. Loved my own, but I don't need to cuddle any baby in the room. Also, like-minded on the value of belonging to a church. Great chat today!
I really cracked up about your comments on babies. I love my grandchildren so much, but I am not one to coo over small babies. They are a little scary. I am so happy when they start to develop personalities and can communicate a little easier. Speaking of, I am working on birthday and Christmas gifts....a quilt for my 15 yr. old grandson in blue Kaffe Fassett fabrics he picked out using the "Marquetry Blocks" pattern (tumbling blocks) from Kaffe's "Quilts in an English Village book". I'm also making a Greenstyle Reef Sweatshirt in barbie pink knit for my 13 year old granddaughter. So happy for you that you have a church you love.
Hi Stephanie! That Idea will come! Keep the Faith!! 😁 I've just posted my costume for this year, made possible mostly because the granddaughters didn't need me to make anything for them this year 😕 There's often one bit that needs to be "invented", and that's the part I always leave until last. The Big Solution always comes to me at the last minute. In the shower or behind the steering wheel. Always. But it's such a kick to have it work out in the end! ❤ Our costumes always have to be finished by about the 17th of the month. I will try to remember to share some of the past costumes. Have a great weekend!
For anyone wanting community but not sure about the church thing (I was molested by a preacher when I was little, so that just isn't going to happen), try walking in your neighborhood. I started walking a few times a week a few months ago. I've met so many people! Just be open to stopping to talk or saying hi and waving on your way past if people are in their yard. I have kids coming up to me if they see something weird, I have dogs that want pets. And I know their names! Lol. Maybe not the best for my exercise routine, but great for the soul.
@@FarrellFocus Unfortunately it seems like in my area there aren't really that many anymore. Most things are run by churches here so unless you are a church member or a kid getting civic hours for school, they don't really take volunteers. I volunteered at the schools as long as I could but then they try to keep parents "out of the way"..... that is the most toxic of the schools but unfortunately the whole system is pretty bad at this point. But anyway, that is restricted to parents of kids in the school for safety purposes these days in the lower grades were it is allowed. The libraries use staff for things that used to be volunteer run. The humane society does take some volunteers after a series of training sessions, but unfortunately it isn't a no kill shelter and I just can't handle being there on days they are putting animals down. Which anymore I think is whenever they run out of cages so pretty constant.
