Question for the tungsten electrode is the tip always completely sharp or should it be alittle blunt flat on the end cause when I do ac welding with aluminum for example it’s supposed to kinda ball up be a little blunt or like bullet shape I believe not as narrow as I would for like using mild steel or stainless steel in dc just curious my welding fundamentals 6th edition says that
Hey bro, thanks for your question! I cannot give you expert advice, only my opinion! I think HF or high frequency machines, can cause potential problems to your pacemaker, not really sure about laser machines. You should read manufacturer guidelines and consult with your doctor!
Curious about your preference for lift arc on carbon but scratch start for stainless. I normally use lift for both if the machine has it. Why the difference?
Hey buddy thanks for your comment. Actually my preference is opposite, scratch start on carbon and lift arc on stainless. I don’t have any issues using any of this two options if available on welding machines. With the lift TIG, you cannot stick the tungsten electrode to the metal when striking initial arc, which is ideal for welding stainless as you want to minimize grinding , and have everything nice and clean , and for carbon I use scratch start , and even if I get arc marks it’s easy to remove them with grinder, without causing any visual issues. Both options works great once you dial in, in my case it’s more of a habit.
@X3M TIG ok yeah i was just curious. I generally use lift arc on everything if the machine im using has that function. I have actually been on a few jobs where the QC wouldn't allow scratch start, only wanted us using lift arc. They were concerned about arc marks outside of the weld zone from guys popping the wire when we arc up.
Just curious, are you doing these welds in position just for the purpose of instruction? Normally this whole spool would just be rolled out. Nice welds anyhow.
Hello let's assume the gas pressure is correct, let's assume the wolram is well ground, why does the tip burn very quickly? what can cause it? in the settings?
You are a genius brother!!! Love your videos and how humble you are, love your explanations, one can learn so much from you, thank you!!! Btw: what do you think of welding mon and hagojibi?
Hey bud thank you very much for your kind words, I really appreciate that 👍 To answer your question; both guys are great tig welders, I like Hagojibi’s style and welding controls, and welding mon is also great welder, doing lot’s of welding in the field .
What angle are you holding the tig wire when you are backfeeding the bottom of the pipe? It almost looks like the wire is parallel to the joint. I’ve been practicing backfeeding, sticking the tig wire through the top of the pipe as I’m welding the bottom, but I’ve been struggling. I’m wondering if it will help if I hold the tig wire inside the bevel but more parallel with the joint as opposed to perpendicular?
Let me make sure I understand you correctly. By 90 degrees, do you mean you are holding the tig wire on top of the pipe and you are feeding it straight down at a 90 degree angle to the joint?
A question for anyone with experience. I dont do a lot of pipe and none of my pipe I do is real critical in the sense of inspection or x-ray. Usually fence, gate, bumper but no sanitation. Regardless I still want full pen and I'm about to pull what little hair I have left out. I have beveled to a feather edge, gaped to loose 1/8. I have key holed, I have gone to break down one edge and swing to opposite edge with 1/16 and 3/32 filler and can't seem to get consistent weld inside. Ill have a good bead going then looks like I got half way. This got me to go even further and start purging, which for me and my purpose is not necessary but it's a chance to make improvements to me. I have put root pass in from 80 amps to 150amps but using a pedal so I havent hit that high. Pipe is stainless sch10. Sch10 how the F am I not have filler at least fall that deep?? It's hard to make suggestions without watching what they do but should I gap more, spend more time hanging out on the sides, key hole big and use 1/8 filler (havent tried that)? The aggravating part is how I've made the puddle look so fluid like it could fall out at any second only to find out I didn't get deep enough. Wtf? Since I'm having tunnel vision on something not necessary for our purpose my employer is reaching a point wondering why I'm hung up on getting over this hump. Chances are I'll never have a job or project requiring a full 0en with reinforcement but its just the point, challenge and now it's either I conquer this or the pipe wins.
Hello, i'm curious, habitualy how many amps you weld approximately in this configuration ? For have an idea of rapidity when you bring the metal into the weld pool at the 6 o'clock to 9 o'clock position, depending of the welders but just like that, thank you for your videos
I have been welding in the chemical industry for the last 12 years, and always take 5/32 gap so I can fee's wire from inside.
