Hereditary peerages are archaic. It has nothing to do with them voting against him.and we should all be in support of abolishing their seats.
The Lords can't stop anything either by the way. They can only vote on amendments to suggest to the commons, which are either accepted or ignored by way of a vote.
They can only frustrate a bill for 12 months before it passes them automatically, but of course you knew that before you spewed that nonsense.

@@OliverCampbell-f6xMany of those who inherit titles from their families benefit through nepotism and provide no knowledge or insight to what's actually happening in the UK and around the world. A lot of them have been spoon fed because their parents are wealthy and famous for their respective skills and achievements.
Those inherited the titles end up studying history or sociology in Cambridge/ Oxford and then have the audacity to speak about the science, EU, sustainability...etc 😅 Unlike their parents/ relatives, they lack basic knowledge of the industry or area that their relatives excelled in. And then we end up with old codgers with too much money to spend in 10 lifetimes and one foot in the grave.
Then there's other people who 'bought' their titles by donating to the party or as 'investment to the country' when actually it's pocketed by the MPs. Like that Baroness for supplying fake PPE during covid for the NHS. The Conservative party applauded her... Labour are guilty of this too.

There are advantages in terms of hereditary inherited positions. For one, they're genetically bred for that role over the centuries. Opening it up to popular vote is the backdoor for radicals to infilitrate, subvert, and dismantle the UK from the inside out.

Fun fact: the first Lord shown is Lord Attlee, the grandson of Clement Attlee, the post-war Labour PM. Clement Attlee was made an Earl and a hereditary Peer in 1956. After he died, his son took over and sat as a Labour Lord until 1981 when he, along with other Labour members, founded the Social Democratic Party. The SDP would merge in 1988 with the Liberals and formed the modern LibDems. Some members from both parties disagreed with the merger and made "continuing" parties. The "continuing" SDP dissolved in 1990, while the "continuing" Liberals are still around as a fringe party. They do have 5 local councillors. Back to the main story, after the 2nd Earl of Attlee died, his son, the current Lord Attlee, a Tory member, took over the peerage and sits as a Tory Lord.

You don’t think that two tier Kier, who seems incapable of disagreeing with any other point of view without calling it far right, will do anything other than try to cement his power do you?
The House of Lords provides oversight to the House of Commons. Stuffing it with people who are aligned with one part or another is creating an even greater opportunity for corruption and partisan bias. Let’s face it the current commons Herbert’s have pushed plenty of their own ilk in there and are we saying these people are a good example. Michelle mone?? I would trust hereditary peers over some of the recent appointees. The rot started with Tony “let’s invade Iraq” Blair and continued with the conservatives.
No government should have unbridled power. They need to be held in check so they don’t go overboard as Starmer is trying to now.
Let’s face it we have enough technology to give more power to the people and less to these self serving corrupt liberal elite.

I agree I believe that no one not king or subject should ever have 100% of power
Being unelected they can world for the country without thinking politics similarly to a king.
The biggest issue with a democracy is politics. Therefore to negate its effect we need an aristocracy that works for the nation thus the hereditary peers. It’s not like they committed any crimes or that they abused their power quite the contrary. Therefore I see this move as one of a power monger and a step towards eradicating britains near perfect system

I agree it needs updating but I’d rather have some hereditary peers that have loyalty to the traditions and history, than young inexperienced people who were put there for shallow or selfish reasons. There should be some form of approving nominations to avoid situations like Boris adding a young woman in her 20’s who did naff all, but now gets the perks for up to 70 years…!!
We need experts in different fields and way less than we currently have, but they need to be careful they don’t remove quality and be left with idiots as well 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’d rather hereditary peers after the state the country has been in for the past 15 years. Do you people just not look at your bills or just think it’s social issues that cause this. No it’s greed plain and simple and all them hereditary peers you want to suck off are the cause. They’re rich buisness men at the end of the day they don’t care about you mate they literally give more thought about their supper than making sure our people are kept fed and warm. If they did then we wouldn’t be seeing British Gas make 10x profits annually or have a food shop of 2 bags cost 100 quid. The House of Lords should just be the house of experts which only allows individuals who have or still do excel in certain fields. Not old spoon fed men who can’t even thathom what 99% of us face.
