  • Jeff, Kate and I are back after a long summer break to continue digging into GA 3, Truth and Science (Wahrheit und Wissenschaft) which Steiner called "A prologue to the Philosophy of Spiritual Activity" In this episode we look at chapter 4 "The Starting Point of Epistemology".
Where does the true starting point for epistemology reside? How does this change our relationship to what knowledge is? Why is the "Given" such an important concept in the philosophy of freedom. What is the significance of intellectual seeing in the context of the book and for us as knowledge seeking human beings.

I want to clarify about my feelings towards different (eastern) faiths/mental technologies. I see this extreme reaction in me as my own failing, like an extremism. I do stand by my judgements, but I also know they're made from fearful feelings. It's a delicate subject and I think I came across as a little offensive here, but I want to acknowledge I am trying to work it out for the sake of making peace with different peoples preferences for finding spirit, and understanding the context of my own convictions

THE MEANING OF THOUGHT AND LOVE
In order to get closer to cognition of what thinking is , I must explain Steiner's definition of the tool he uses to reach a realization. 1) An understanding of the 10 senses, of which the three highest are: The word. The concept and I am the organism. With the word, we must recognize that we are talking about a Logos - that is, that the "WORD" in itself is a spirit's power of cognition, and not just an intellectual abstract form of expression. (see John's Gospel 1:1 - In the beginning was the word, and the word was with , and the word was God) 2) Concepts are the structuring of the Word. Concepts can be dull, seductive or enlightening. 3) I am the organism that brings the concepts into a cognitive functionalism and spirit cognition or active thinking. THE BEING OF THOUGHT With Steiner's definition of the essence of thinking, I first got some concepts that helped me to recognize the essence of thinking. He then says that thinking reflects the three spiritual beings in the first Hierarchy on the Tree of Life. These three beings are Angels, Archangels and Archai. The angels appear as visions that show us the way. The Archangels give us Logic and the Archai give us Total Memory. In other words, the essence of thinking is threefold. This means that man must acquire Vision, Logic and Total Memory. We are now left with three concepts that form the basic foundation for man. Thinking, feeling and will. Another statement from Steiner helped me to understand the limitations of thinking and what he calls the philosophy of freedom or active thinking. He then says the following: "Man cannot arrive at a realization of Karma and Reincarnation through thinking. Such a realization must go through Feeling and Will. Based on my own experiences, I would say that this is where Love as a concept can become a living reality. One of the best sources for understanding these questions, I found in Vladimir Solovyov Jeff's book: "The Meaning of Love."

Thanks for sharing your important additonal thoughts! You are correct it is important to talk about the relationship between knowledge, thinking and love.
Love is that which allows me to meet the other at ever deepening level of its being. Love filled thinking leads to returning to the participation from which we separated ourselves.

Kate, I love your question toward the end about concepts and ideas. I can give you an example of having to go through the symphony to find the satisfaction with the cymbal at the end. I've asked for plant allies to come forward for the times, and 2 have over the last 18 months or so, Dandelion and Plantain. The message of Dandelion is "People will see what they want to see". On a surface level that was easy to understand. For some the plant is useful, for others it's a nuisance. I've employed spagyrics on both. Meanwhile, I find the work of Ari Sorenson to discover that to "free" elementals we need to see them. 🎶

Hello forbearance I am very intrigued by this comment,I am interested in plant medicine, and I would like to develop what you describe, finding plant allies. Oh! I want to give an example, I was in a deep melancholy over a decision I had to make once, and then I saw a honeysuckle plant, and I didn't hear a message exactly, but I experienced the plant instead of my feeling and I was relieved of the pain from my thoughts immediately, so I knew that flower essence medicine had a real applicability, and possibly we would only need to be encountering the right plant, not even turning it into a medicine.
I am interested about plantain, did you find a message from that? I am also interested why you commented this, if you could give insight into what linked what I said to what you said. And, I am grateful you listened all the way to the end!
