He apparently lies to himself, then lectures us on how to live our lives/how we should look at the world? Mandela was a strait up political 7errorist with a capital T. No one seriously can deny this who o owes the history of SA. Woke lies are still lies. Just because a lie benifiets non White people doesn’t mean it’s true or good. We’re sooo social communists.

Unless you are the target of unwarranted persecution, eradication. Something I'm sure Marcus Aurelius didn't have to worry about. Happiness is a state of mind yes but like a wave it comes and goes and could never be static because to be so would invalidate all other states of emotion. Imagine wanting to feel sadness and only being able to feel happy.

I never learned stoicism, I just adopted parts of it eventually after feeling embarrassed for those who overreacted in public. I’ve literally been hired for a job, because the business owner said I was more “even keeled” than the other applicants. I have used it to defeat depression early on and have been able to help a few others defeat depression. The easiest way to teach it, is using the line in this video about controlling how things effect you, vs worrying about trying to control everything that happens to you. Yes, you must attempt to control the world around you, to survive. But when things beyond our control happen, do not let it break you.

I have to agree with you about the complete "philosophy" statement. However, I would like to state that all the negativity nihilism gets I view as "passive nihilism", where one is ambivalent to everything. On the contrast though what I call "active nihilism", is more closely related to Zen Buddhism, The act of letting things go the act of not caring as much especially about what other people think of you, it requires taking some action, where as "passive nihilism" is when you become stagnant and stuck. The art of not caring has a fine line to it, but if you're doing it as a means of growth and coming from statements like "What other people say about me is none of my business.", it is powerful.

Isn't that a wonderful feeling? To find that the things the 'general public' point out in you as a character flaw, something that they see as something you should change and makes you feel a little bit self aware of being 'different' and not as a quality that sets you apart.
This affirmation of my natural way I see and respond to the world, as a quality of charcter that makes me at peace with myself and accepting of the fact that I am different, in a good way. And it's ok if others don't get it.

Man this was truly an incredible presentation and content that has a large amount of insight and wisdom. Well done. It is my goal which I've been working on knowingly to grow and become fully competent in Stoicism by the age of 50 years old but of course continue growing and learning until my last days very end. Even at 47 and lived what seemed 3 lifetimes over the last 7 years which ironically was the first time I truly got to know myself. My awakening at 38 I shall never forget. Part of me wishes to this day I would never have awoken. The other part is hyper aware that I'm super aware and so on. It definitely changes you and you are unable to see life the same way you always had and for me it literally happened overnight. I went to bed my old self and awoke the next morning to a set of silent unsaid unspoken instructions that I answered silently as I sat straight up in my bed but agreed and answered yes to instructions that were never said yet understood. Phenomenal content and it definitely didn't go unnoticed. I think it will take and impact all people different but one thing they will need is to have or be In process of having an awakening and totally and literally seeing thy ego appear to come out and I remember seeing it float away like a balloon but feeling no panic and being at peace. Some really great insight and I'm happy to have watched and listened to your awakening as it's not often I ever hear it spoken and I have tried before to those I know and they look at me as if one of these. I'm crazy. The look at me and their eyes read mass confusion to which I quickly change the subject with and or they will try to understand but I've realized that even if good with words, something's words cannot explain and can only be learned from real life experience.
    Thanks for sharing!

Doing a psychedelic indused ego death is lige playing that dark childrens game where you get your friend to push down on your lungs while your back is against the wall. When you come up, your friend takes the position. The cop out lies within the trust that the *two entities* share between each other, so that you can "get high" off of the near death experience.
    - the "buddy" represents the independent variable of you trip objectively being the good or bad variety.
    - the asphixiation symbolises how horrifying ego death feels like.
    - and I guess, the children represent how we must all approach boundry defying near death experiences with a heavy dose of humility, as children at heart?

Zeno became depressed with the loss in his business and to come out of his depression he started reading philosophical books. Once he visited a bookstore and chanced upon a book on Socrates, the philosopher written by historian Xenophon. He started reading it and was very interested in the world of philosophy and philosophers. He asked the shopkeeper as to where he could find such men as mentioned in the books. Zeno was referring to finding the philosophers in flesh and blood. Incidentally at that time one famous philosopher of that town was passing by the bookstore. The shopkeeper immediately pointed towards that man and told Zeno that he was the philosopher type. In those days of Athens it was quite possible to find philosophers roaming the streets as ordinary men with their students. Athens was the hub of philosophy and their resultant schools and academies.
Zeno immediately talked to him, became his disciple and started learning philosophy from him. He kept on learning philosophy from different schools of thought but still he could not satisfy his intellectual thirst. He thought there is something lacking in the philosophical world which can be of immense help to society. Thereupon he started thinking upon those issues that ultimately gave birth to the stoicism school of philosophy. Zeno talked about practical wisdom and how we must listen to our human nature and balance our actions with reasons.
To bring himself closer to the people and to propagate his philosophical thoughts, Zeno started delivering free lectures in the open marketplace. People started listening to him and slowly he became famous in Athens. The name Stoicism comes from the word “Stoa '' which means open place. This is because Zeno used to talk about his philosophy in the open marketplace.
Sometimes some people leave their imprint so deep that every moment of their action becomes memorable. This is an incredible story of self determination on how an individual converted his precarious situation (financial and mental catastrophe) into an intellectual revolution. Zeno of Citium is one of the leaders of the philosophical world who provided a fresh insight into the practical wisdom of philosophy. He is one of the few we can credit with the “leadership of the mind” in the annals of humanity’s intellectual journey.

I draw strength from your awareness and acceptance of responsibility for your own feelings and pain, but your awareness for NOT putting it onto other people and make them responsible for fixing you, understanding your pain, adjusting their lives to accommodate you.
Your insightful awareness and acceptance that others have their own pain and path to follow, and don't need yours on top of it is very powerful.
It's a hard thing to release the world of obligation for your emotional response to things. But once you get it, it is very freeing.

I woke up on the other side of everything today and I was so thankful! Then, as I was walking across the room, I dropped my phone and when I picked it up this video started playing. Talk about serendipity! I have heard these philosophies before and have debated them before in college, but 30 years later, I can fully relate to most them! I have never doubted the existence of God. Isn't it just like a good father, to give you all the answers, after you just tortured yourself trying to figure them out on your own 💖 the rest of the world may think I'm crazy, but my Father is proud of what I have accomplished! You may see nothing.... But to Him I am everything! My life was custom built to survive and assist the chaos that is coming. I know everybody feels it, y'all just remember that crazy Gemini chick that had the courage to say it out loud 😜 Peace out y'all! I'm off to be stoic 😑

    Interesting,
Firstly I will like to talk on
"Resist and persist" is a phrase often used to convey determination and resilience in the face of challenges or adversity. Here's a breakdown of its meaning:
    - **Resist:** This implies standing against something, whether it's oppression, injustice, temptation, or any other negative force. It suggests an active effort to oppose or fight back against these challenges.
    - **Persist:** This means to continue steadfastly, even when progress is slow or obstacles seem insurmountable. It's about enduring, not giving up, and maintaining effort over time.
Together, "resist and persist" can be seen as a call to both oppose what is wrong and continue striving for what is right, despite difficulties. It embodies the spirit of perseverance and resilience, often associated with social movements, personal struggles, and any situation or encounter where continued effort is required to achieve a goal.
this is really fantastic. I must be frank this is one of the best pieces of thought and video I have ever watched in my life.
I really learnt a lot of lessons and information that can really change my life for good in the video.
I also enjoyed Elon musk explanation of resist and persist.
One of the message is to learn to be perseverance in whatever thing life has to offer you, you must keep pushing and moving. One must not quit in his or her endeavor or encounter.
Going forward, this lessons learnt will really help me in decision making in the future

Nietzsche was doing what one should when thinking about something. The pros and cons. The positive and negatives. Which will leave one feeling ambivalent. Torn.
Stop overthinking and over analyzing. Its putting expectations on things. Most of which, are unrealistic. Kegley's Principle of Change… It is easier to behave your way into new way of thinking than to think your way into a new way of behaving.
And dude, this was a very broad video. It went into many awesome aspects of the conscience. Bravo💪👏👌
The death of the ego or transcending the ego is something I feel we are all going through right now. It's scary when the veil is lifting. You start to question your sanity. You start to disassociate from the reality or story you have been telling yourself. Detaching from all these attachments is uncomfortable, at the least.
You start to see attachment is the root of suffering. And desire. The ego attaches to these material things as a way to give the identity some definition. We dont own these things these things own us. Its only when you lose everything that you can do anything.
Forgive me for blowing these comments up but this video had stimulated a brain storm.

  • @Contemplatium
    @Contemplatium ปีที่แล้ว +38

I'd say stoicism almost got it right. Instead of doing it for ourselves, do it for the sake of it. Helping others is helping yourself. Just as caring for yourself before you care for others enables you to help others. Just as by feeling good by helping others we can allow ourselves to be helped so that others can feel good. These principles lead past the simple boundaries of contentment and discontentment, and give rise to purpose and intent. To those who chase freedom, or pleasures, or creation, or knowledge, or fairness, we are all after something. Be it a sense of power, a means to feel secure, the desire for love, or anything you can imagine. For one of the best philosophical frameworks for life that I've found, take the ideas of buddhism, stoicism, absurdism, and everything by Alan Watts and Carl Sagan. You'll go down the path of wondering that if anything can have meaning, then nothing really does. You'll learn that the bottom line, the whole reason for everything, is love.

I tend to be of a mindset, "i need to do it all myself" not sure if it is to prove something to myself, or if i am hesitant of asking for help in fear of judgement or upsetting someone. But i love to help people, it feels good. and i never thought of letting others help me and allowing them to feel that same feeling.

It's funny because I discovered stoicism for myself without ever hearing about it when I was 14. Introvert. Got bullied. Etc.
And then I got very selfaware and reflective.
I just imagined that every person I ever met could drug me, rape my relatives, torture me, torture and destroy everything I love.
So at this point every person that doesn't do it, will just do neutral or good things to you.
Now I'm happy at 28 because nothing can faze me anymore.
I conditioned myself to solving problems. But I never experience a problem for myself. Just events to approach or solve

In many eastern culture stoicism is part of religious path to enlightenment, Lord Buddha's philosophy, zen philosophy, hinduism's idea of yogi all revolve arounf the idea of not being overwhelmingly bothered by loss at the same time not being jubilant by victories because nothing is permanent other than change.

  • @MellowMutts270
    @MellowMutts270 ปีที่แล้ว +55

I believe somehow I knew stoicism even when i was 10. We lost our house and everything in a flood my whole life was uprooted suddenly and for kids that’s fairly traumatic. I saw my mom and brother crying over stuff and things I understood perfectly why they were upset but I just didn’t feel the same. Everything that was ruined could be replaced none of it was really important in the grand scheme of things. The only thing that broke my heart was my pot bellied pig had died.
I can logically explain why I personally would save the dog in that moment and not the human. It’s probably the same reason most people would too but I can’t say that for sure. The dog is just a dog in my mind they are innocent. A human however most especially current day humans will go about their day inflicting harm on everyone around them and they won’t even be aware enough to know it. Then when it’s brought to their attention they pretend to be bothered by it and promise to change all while continuing the same behavior that inflicted the harm. I don’t hate people i think there is hope for some but that is my logical reasoning for saving the dog.

This is flawed but understandable thinking. Humanity and the human condition is more valuable to me because we create meaning. We're omnivores, we eat animals and other living things and exercise our will over them and nature (every thing we have put into our mouth has screamed before and while dying in some form or another). The pig is an omnivore as well. Don't let it's tamed nature fool you. Wild boars are beasts. Nature is hostile if not a setback to human progress. We have created great things, our own meaning from that blood, we create God. Why would you choose your animal's life over a stranger's? Is it because of sentiment? The perceived competition or ignorance that a stranger entails? Surely that sacrifice is worth it for someone to experience the human condition.
