The metallic writing on the mug started a fire inside, & flames were already shooting out the back of the unit. Just that quick... If he walked out of the kitchen for 30 seconds, well, who knows. The countertop & the entire side of my frig was black w soot!! And of course, the microwave didn't survive. We've always been careful...but it surely was a good lesson learned.

I actually almost destroyed our microwave when I mistakenly thought the cooking timer was the regular timer and turned it on, with nothing in it, for several minutes when it just stopped altogether. I unplugged it and let it cool down and it worked again.

Well a quarter cup of flour and a quarter cup of milk just made a cake mix-like batter for me so I added the sugar and cinnamon to it, put a teaspoon of oil in the cup, poured in the batter and cooked it one minute at 900w and got cinnamon lava cake!! Added cream on top--just as nice!

I tried microwaving a dress shirt a few years ago to dry it a little. It came out like Swiss cheese. Every button had burned a hole through several layers of fabric. The kids thought it was great.
The only way to peel tomatoes is to put them in rolling boiling water on the end of a fork until the skin loosens and wrinkles in front of your eyes. No microwave needed and it works. Pull the skin free with a pairing knife and if there is a place that sticks, dip again for a few seconds and pull it off. If that doesn't work cut that part off and pretend it never happened.

We also have some dishes with a small bit of gold trim on them. Those also caused sparks. It is not safe to put metals of any kind in a microwave. Every manufacturer's label I've read says the same thing. Personally, I am not going to risk starting a fire or ruining my unit.

The answer is NO you do not use them properly AND you are a hypocrite because you said this AND did the opposite and showed others dangerous things to do....
