As a fellow old house owner, remember that you are now the caretaker of it. It’s your job to preserve and take care of it. It’s been standing for a long time and will keep doing so as you pour your own attention and care into it as you make it yours 😊
For sure! I'm so lucky that I grew up in an old home and recognize the importance of not just preserving and taking care of it but being proactive in those measures as well! We plan on having an engineer come out to give us guidance on how to ensure the home keeps its good bones!
As an engineer i am happy youll get a professional to look through your old house. Its a good step especially with old houses. Also as someone who just moved you are doing great.

It's better for your soil and grass if you leave the fallen leaves outside. Of course do what you want since it's your place but the leaves will help keep the grass and soil healthier over the winter and give insects a little place to stay warm over the winter which in turn causes for more birds (due to feeding opportunities). Or you can mow the leaves in the yard without a bag so the leaves are smaller and can break down faster (natural fertlizer that also helps suppress weed growth)
Wait really? My whole life I have racked leaves before winter.... mind blown
@CarterSullivan promise it's not a lie! I studied wildlife management at uni. It helps mainly caterpillars and moths so yay pollinators!

We’ve moved 5 times in the last 8 years 3 of the moves we’re moving states with our last move being with our 2 and 4 year old at the time. Our last move was in May and we bought our first home so I feel you when you say it’s overwhelming I cried multiple times with our last move for a variety of reasons.

I also have a 100 year old home. The guy before absolutely did everything himself and it's insanely overwhelming sometimes. Especially when people visit and they talk about all the things I 'should' do and not know all the things I've done
Oh yea that's the worst hahaha unsolicited advice! We are so lucky to have a few contractors and handy men in the family so those are the only people I will take advice from hahaha

Congratulations on the house!! Loved this video. Take it a day at a time. I’m very excited for you. Are there things you wish you had looked at, or noticed when you were first looking at the house. After being a life long renter I’m looking at buying my first home and I’m scared that I won’t notice big red flags and then I’ll be on my own to figure it out. I’ll take all the pointers you can give now that you’re on the other side of it. 😊
I think my biggest advice is to always get a home inspector to come look at it!

Loving these videos! Congrats on your move. I know that your move is pretty recent, but how can you speak to your first few weeks of living outside of the city? My partner and I are thinking about moving 25 mins outside of our ontario city, but I'm also nervous im going to regret it as well (for convenience, starting a family, driving time).
Oh, I grew up in the country so for me this feels very familiar! But for Matt he is definitely taking his time to adjust! I love it and feel so at home here but I can't speak for anyone who moves to the country!

We love it! I should disclose it was gifted to us BUT I love it. It is one of those couches that kinda gets comfier with time and starts off really firm but we got it because you can add pieces over time and it comes apart super easy to be able to move around!
