    I have this same lathe and dust collection attachment. I've found it's best when it comes to sanding and sucking super glue fumes away. Obviously larger projects shoot wood shavings toward you so it's not very useful in that regard.

    Hi Casey,
    I have a Comet 2 and love it. Nice review.
    looking at your dust collector. I think the stand part could go at the head stock end. This would then allow more movement for your tailstock.
    Regards
    Paul

      +SCCFORUM Paul you’re absolutely right. I will have to rearrange when I get back to the shop after Thanksgiving. I am thinking there might be some reason why I wasn’t able to do it that way, like the motor getting in the way of tightening it, but I could be wrong and just never have tried it that way. Thanks for the suggestion!

      @@CaseyMartin707 I was thinking that it looked like it could be attached to the bench top by inserting a barrel nut into the bench top, then it would be completely out of the way.

    Do you recommend this lathe for ashtray making , medium bowls , resin projects ?

    • @CaseyMartin707
      @CaseyMartin707  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes definitely! It’s got plenty of power for the size it is able to do.

    Hello thanks for the video! Can you run this off a thicker gauge extension cord? Just got mine and motor stopped turning during 30 min break in run. Not sure if it was the extension cord or just a bad motor or switch. Thanks

      @CaseyMartin707  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine has always been plugged into a power strip, so I would assume an extension cord will work. Just a thicker gauge like you mentioned. Could have tripped a breaker or power strip?

      @@CaseyMartin707 everything else was running fine even my band saw and belt sander. I got about 9 minutes into 30 minute motor break in with zero load. And it just stopped. Still moved freely just zero power. Breaker was not tripped. Have to send it back. Must have got a lemon

    Thinking about buying this item. Could you recommend me accessories I must buy with this lathe?? What type of gauges do you recommend??? Thank you!

    • @CaseyMartin707
      @CaseyMartin707  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No accessories you MUST buy. It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to make pens you’ll have to get a pen mandrel and those items. If you want to make bowls you’ll have to get a bowl chuck. It’s all up to you. I’m not sure what you mean by gauges, but I’m assuming you mean gouges, as in turning tools? I have a tools I use page in the video description with links to to carbide turning tools I use. I only use carbide now. Hope that helps!

      Casey Martin sorry i meant gouges. For bowls what chuck do you recommend for this lathe? Why do you use now carbides?
