    I can't deny that this broke my heart a little bit... For the whole family but mostly for Ryan. I remember my son growing up at the track, he won a lot and I took too much of the fun out of it for him..... Wish I wouldn't have done that... Then a friend of ours was killed in a rhythm section at 11 years old. 2 weeks later my son broke his tib-fib in that same rhythm section. At that point in time we gave racing up..... we still ride for fun and it means more now than it ever did....

He got a college scholarship and now pitches in college. So much sacrifice for our kids...would do it all over again.

    I remember meeting Villopoto a few years back. I've met a lot of pros over the years and ALL of them except one have been happy to meet a fan and talk to them. I knew some people that could get me and my dad into the Anaheim pits at the end of the night once everything had quieted down. Saw Villopoto hanging out next to his rig while the guys were starting to tear things down so figured we'd say hi. Can't remember how he placed that night, but the guys face was just cold and indifferent. He was nice enough to take a pic with us but just turned and walked away once the camera was lowered lol.
    Guess this video shows thats just how he is. Shame a professional athlete could seem so unhappy about what they do.

      @@sebastiannai4381 well when you are in a situation like that, contracts, expectations, goals from your sponsors, sometimes it can get to you. No I enter a race once or twice a year usually a harescramble. I do it just for fun, I dont care if i win or loose, it takes riding to a whole new level of fun. Being to serious about racing I think can for sure make your life in a non fun direction.

    • @MichaelF1
      @MichaelF1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I mean...It's a job. Same way for any other motorsport. You start at 4, and ages 9-18 it's as serious as it's ever going to get.
      You HOPE that it stays fun enough to offset the bullshit, but sometimes it doesn't. Prime example is Kimi Raikonnen. I honestly believe he races because he gets cut a wicked check, he'd rather be in Finland fishing. Doesn't give a damn about winning. His mentality is more "If i'm going to be here, I might as well win", not "I MUST win at any cost".

    • @vic2340
      @vic2340 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good points there. thanks for the insight, I agree, I dont think mx is a healthy lifestyle, these guys get mentally and physically destroyed all day everyday, they must have a lot of metal in there bodies by the time they retire, and as you said a lot of guys just think of it as a job, I would think of it only as fun, as soon as its a job, im out.

    • @YainMx
      @YainMx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +vic2340 I wouldn't mind doing this as a job, i've already managed to get permanent damage to my body because of it. And atleast it would've been a job and a lifestyle that i enjoy, i'm going to a mx school this year, and probably next year too. Nothing but good memories of it.
      I'm not out to be the best though, it'd be fun, but the only thing i want with my bike, is what it gives me. Joy.

    Even at this younger age, I can tell Kylie Villopoto is a sharp young lady with good values who grew up watching her brother become "Somebody Great!". A few months ago, (6 years after this vid), I read an interview of her in a MX mag, (Dream jobs), as she now works in the industry. Her attitude impressed me there also. Who ever tries to marry that gal better be a hero, or working on it, because she will not accept anything less, and she should not. Watch this gal earn a great life also. Good values, are worth keeping. :)

    I never liked him but... I truly admire his lack of personal attachment to supercross he will walk away when he wants . He is in control. I think he’s an introvert and sometimes I think he didnt have patience for the cameras in his face and silly questions. But for sure he had massive amounts of discipline and focus

    I don't get how you could kick your parent out of your life, they sacrificed so much for you.

    It sucks that only the upper class and wealthy usually get far enough to become pro.. Most of the guys you see that are even medium way up in the sport grew up rich.. I was always very very good on 2 wheels like I was gifted lol. When I was around 15 I was riding like fire... I found out at that time how much Fucking money it took to be able to travel around and win enough races to become sponsored etc. It sucks looking back that I wish I could have atleast gotten the opportunity to go to camps and train and travel around and try to win.. I remember taking these super skinny cross country trails and the cross country guys looking at me like I was crazy lol. One time a guy around 40 years old who was one of the best cross country riders I've ever seen told me that I should be competing on a MX track. My parents just didn't have the money lol but that's life you know.. I remember these wealthy kids at the flat track trying to show off.. I would blow right past them and take the huge step downs in 4th gear when they were taking them in like 2nd.. Those were fun times though and I'm glad I got to ride like that.

    It ain’t a easy road to the top or for the people that get you there either. I can see it from both sides . His parents see that he could be great and ran with it . He should never of sent his dad away and his dad should of seen his a young man now .
    I’m dreading my little boy growing up it’s terrifying.

    I played 5 sports and spent 16 years running a training camp and coaching an amateur boxing team. I raced AMA motocross and Enduro and am sometimes amazed at how many people think MX/SX is easy. They MAKE it look easy. I often compared the conditioning needed to boxing.as well as the risk these athletes take. Bob Hannah was one of my idols, yes I'm old lol, and I'm elated the sport is back from near extinction. I look forward to annual ATL trips. Poto is maybe the best I've seen, rider/athlete.
